Where did the years go.......

My baby is 48 today. Although I was totally in love with my two sons, I remember the thrill when the Dr. said it's a girl. Happy Birthday Colleen Leigh. Dottie

Oh, the time flies by way too fast and the older you get the faster it seems to fly. A great happy birthday to your daughter.

MsMisk ~ love your purple/reddish cockscombs and those wonderful blue morning glories behind. Wow! Eduarda ~ I want you to know that I miss you being here. Ellen ~ your goldenrod and asters make a wonderful combination. I need to see if I can get some goldenrod to grow down here (zone 10 s.e. FL), as I don't have a lot of yellow and those looks so 'cottagey'. lindakimy ~ I love your blooms and your coleas are so wonderful too. Is that Russian sage in the background behind your yellow flowers? Michelle ~ Love your gardens and that we could see it from above. Your dear GD is a sweetie. It is still hot and humid down here in Plum Cottage gardens. When oh when will we get some cooler weather? They are predicting night time temps in the high 50's the end of the month. We'll see, it sure would be a welcome relief. I've been working in my potting garden. Setting up my mini green house and getting ready to plant some seeds for lots of colorful blooms these next 6 months or so. I've still got weeds to pull, vines to trim and weedwacking to do. I've said I'd like more garden space, but I really don't think so latley. Our 1/4 acre is plenty for me to handle these days. I don't want to be overloaded. I want to putter and enjoy our little haven. Happy Gardening ~ FlowerLady

Good contest! "It is a significant garden for plant people." This at least narrows it down to a couple hundred at most. The architecture did throw me, and I consider myself an amateur architectural historian. (I've won a similar contest by being able to recognize the architecture in Windhoek, NB...of course I've never been there!) It does not look like the stereotype of California building styles. When I saw the first post, I thought it was somewhere in eastern Canada!

Tenth anniversary of Katrina???

I knew a family who went through Katrina and lost everything. They relocated to our area here in the New Mexico mountains because they were so traumatized and said they never wanted to go through a hurricane or flood again. They eventually moved back to the NO area, about 5 years ago. New Orleans and Louisiana were just in their blood and they couldn't shake it, they told me. It was a nightmare of epic proportions for all the people there. I hope they never have to go through anything like that again.

A wise doctor when discussing what someone should eat mentioned after a certain age as long as a person does not overdo foods or they have a violent reaction to them it is better for them to eat what they want. It is not wanting to eat so that a person does not receive the number of calories needed to even maintain their body mass which is a killer. It may be something about those Fun-Yuns. Couple of months ago I saw someone pick up two small packages and when the time came they lacked the money to pay for them. There was no way I was going to let those packages be taken from her since I saw how longingly she had looked at them as she was trying to decide if she could actually have them.

Funny you mention the thrill when the dr said it's a girl. I did the same thing - three times! I have three sons I adore, too, but when I heard "It's a girl!" my heart fluttered with joy.

That being said, here is my deepest, darkest secret: I have a favorite kid, and it's a boy. I've never "said" that before.

Happy b'day to your daughter, dotmom.

Mercy Melba!! Where did the years go? I have a daughter, 40 and a GD that will be 19 Tues. It seems like yesterday she was born. She was premature and looked like a refinery w/ all those tubes hooked up to her. Hard to believe when I look at her now and she's tall and gorgeous and smart and best of all, such a good girl. Where do the years go?

I go along with, "Where did......" My daughter will be 49 in June...Like, Sherrman, after 3 boys and for the doctor to say, girl, WOW...But we did go on to have another boy and I'm kind of glad she's the only girl....Turned out, after we got through those teen years, she's my best friend.....Girls are indeed special....
Birthday wishes to your special girl!

As the years roll by, I too wonder where did the time go. It seems on yesterday that I had a lifetime in front of me and the world was my playpen. That has passed. The kids have grown up and are out of the house - for now that is.

Time passes much more quickly now. I'd like to hang onto a bit of it, but it is as slippery as a greased pig and squeals if you try to impede it. I think I've got it figgured out. When I was 10 yrs old, 1 year was 10% of my entire life - it was a long time! But now at 70, 1 yr is only 1/70 of my life and it passes to quickly like an ice cream cone on a hot day drippng down my arm and onto my shirt.

On my 40th birthday, I lamented on the phone to my Mom about how old I felt. Her response..."and just how old do you think that makes me feel?" My little girl will be 50 this year. Talk about feeling old!
