Target Scanned ID

I was going to mention this on the "ask your race" post but didn't want hijack it...

I was in Target the other day and decided to buy a cheap bottle of wine. When I checked out, the girl asked for my ID. I was feeling especially flattered! Hadn't been carded in years! Anyway she took my license and scanned it! (without asking or telling me) I'm like... what info did your system just collect from me and how will it be used? I don't think she understood why I was a little put back. I expected her to look at the year on my ID and hand it back -- I probably would not have bought the wine had I known I'd have my ID scanned. I'm still not sure what, if any info, they collected on me.

Have they been doing this for long and at many places? I really don't by alcohol much.

Just beware...your ID may be scanned when you present it.
