cabinet design: drawers vs. doors w/ shelves
Comments (1)We have a pretty big vanity complex (see below), with a mix of upper and lower, doors and drawers. The frequently used items are all stored in the wall cabinets (mine in the one above the tambour, DH's in the one between the mirrors) and top row of drawers. Those have turned out to be the most easily accessible for us. So maxmimize what you can have within arms length without bending or stretching....See MoreStacked cabinets - 39" uppers with 24" stacks above ok?
Comments (4)You are correct that 24" cabinets on top of 39" cabinets will be very top heavy and "push" the lower cabinets down. I would ABSOLUTELY do the 42" cabinets with 18's stacked above with a 9" crown. That will look great. BTW: My ceilings will be 10', so 3" shorter than yours. Here's a computer drawn idea of how mine will look with the 18" uppers on top of the 42" cabinets. This is to scale to give you an idea....See MoreOrdered cabinets and now I am regretting pull out spice base cabinet
Comments (28)Not a solution for the OP-this is how I usually do them. Pictured is a 15" frameless. I aim for 15-18", 21 max.I rarely allow a 9" cabinet into a design but have done these at 12" For semi custom brands ordering is a hack, talk with your KD and get detailed drawing and order info. Should be something like- door shipped loose (or deleted and separate door ordered) one standard RO, one tall RO or drawer box (8" high). Method for field install of door depends on door style-options include : 6" tall narrow angle brackets on sides, "L" bracket on top of bottom box, ply attached to door, sometimes can just attach the door to the bottom box-depends. From mid range and up can just be ordered. I disable the soft close on the bottom RO often to cut down on stress when opening and no the bottles don't fall over. We used to do this a little differently so I don't have current photo just rendering but the cut away side helps clarify (have a few installing currently and will get pix once they are loaded)....See MoreDrawer/Cabinet pulls to go w/Flat Panel White Kitchen Cabinets
Comments (4)Do you mean shaker style doors or a truly flat slab door? If you mean a slab door then I would lean toward something sleek and modern to complement the modern look of a slab door. Drawer handles at roughly 1/3 the width are visually pleasing ... except if you have narrow drawers (like 12" wide or less) and then I go with "what does my hand fit into nicely?". I think I wound up with about a 4.5" handle on those drawers, just a smidge larger than 1/3 of the width. On drawers that are wide, like 30+", you might struggle to find a single pull that is large enough. I used 8" handles on my 30" wide drawers because the style I liked didn't come any larger - unless I used an appliance pull and those just looked wrong. It looks fine, larger would have looked better but my island has a 30" base, 24" base, 30" base in series and the drawer handles are consistent so it seems reasonable. Good luck, they are expensive little things when you need so many!...See Moreabbycat9990
