I got a baking stone...

Happy Holidays to all!

One of my gifts was a baking stone. I have never used one and have a few questions. A few pizza recipes and a bread recipes were enclosed - all saying to use the stone on the middle rack of the oven. But on the box it says " Four angled feet elevate baking stone from oven floor to promote even heat circulation".

I have read on this forum that people leave them on the their oven floors (and I remember Julia Child did too). Now

I want to know...

Do you leave yours in the bottom of the oven at all times?

How does this affect the baking process?

Whats the advantage to having it or not? Besides crisp pizza and bread?

Thanks.

Di
