I just gave Sophie a haircut....

And oh my GOODNESS it's bad. So crooked. And SHORT! I wanted to tidy her up before a birthday party that she's going to this afternoon, but I did a terrible job. Now I have to bring her to a hair salon to get it fixed somehow. It is SO short.

Tell me I'm not the only one who's done this?

No! And my Daughter cryed for 2 solid months until it grew out. She was in the 4th Grade.

But, that wasn't as bad as the time she wanted me to color her hair when she was in 7th grade and it turned out Carrot Orange. LOL!

So, Moms just take the kids to the Salon, before you ruin their social lives.

Put a few soft curls in it Nicole, it might help it not to look crooked. Bless your heart, I can tell you are suffering much more over this faux pas that little Sophie is. I remember my Mom getting my bangs too short at times. Or giving me a really tight perm. Ugh!

I think you may have gotten your information about Sophie preferring cooler weather areas from this blurb at SESE: 55 days. (Determinate) [Heirloom from Edmonton, Canada, sent to SESE from Dr. Male. Introduced 1997.] The best choice for an extra early tomato - highly productive, flavorful and large-fruited. By far the earliest variety we offer, 'Sophie's Choice' ripens ahead of all other extra-early varieties in our trials. Unlike other extra-early varieties, the fruits are flavorful and large, averaging 6 to 8 ounces and weighing up to 12 ounces. 'Sophie's Choice' has an orange-red exterior and deep red interior. Produces large fruit on a small plant only 18 to 24" tall. Quality is best in cool climates. Does not handle heat or drought well. Pkt. And that's what Jeff McCormack wrote back in the late 90's when he still owned SESE. Yes, I was the person who sent seeds to him but the seeds were sent to me by Barry Comdon of Hollywood CA, where they were successfully grown by him and also the woman he got the seeds from. And I know that others in warm areas of the country have grow it successfully as well. So if I were you I wouldn't be all that worried about it, not that that's going to stop you from worrying. LOL BTW, when I got the seeds, unnamed, from Barry, I asked him to name it, he said he'd let the woman who gave him the seeds name it, and it was she who named it Sophie's Choice.Many folks have asked me about that name, so that's why I'm mentioning it now. Carolyn M, who never puts out a plant until at least two weeks after the last average killing frost in her area, which is May 15th.

Thank God I've never had a bad haircut.. They say a good haircut is when YOU notice the cut but noone else does. I think that's true. I've had many cuts that I've loved yet others have just noticed a 'trim'. Years ago, I used to go to a hair salon that was run by a guy that played in a popular band in the Miami area. He also was a stylist and was very good. I arrive one morning for my haircut and he sits me in the chair and whispers in my ear that I should leave. I looked at him in the mirror and he winks my way and tells me he'd had a 'gig' the night before, had drunk too much and done drugs and was still not totally with it. Told me that he was afraid to hurt me! I felt horrible but grateful that he was honest enough with me. Did I ever go back?? Heck yeah! Great hairdressers are hard to find. I just learned to check him out real good first before I sat in that chair!

RBG... Mine is an inverted bob also. It only took me 28 years to finally stop trying to have curly hair! can't tell you how much money or time was spent trying' to get perms that my hair would take. never did find a professional one, only the good old Tony's (or was it Toni.. lol0 that my Mom would give me as a child! lol I, too, used to have hair below my waist. And during slumber parties when most of my friends were litereally ironing their hair, or using dippity doo setting and sleeping in huge campbell soup cans to straighten theirs... I was using 3 sets of electric rollers trying to get mine to curl! A very wasted effort. For even if I could get it to curl, the weight of butt length straight unlayerd hair would have pulled out any curl. lol I now enjoy my inverted bob that needs virtually no care!

Toomuchglass - be prepared to faint. I am about to change hairdressers. If we weren't having a major snow storm with everything pretty much closed, I would have phoned for an appointment today. Prior to this development I had to pay almost the same amount where I was going - and where I went before that. I have very thick, naturally wavy hair. Fortunately, I do not get highlights. The starting price of $130+ really would be about $300 Cdn. for me. The colour will be more than the $90 and the cut and blow dry will be more than the $70.00. This I know for sure, based on past experience. Generally, the lower blow dry prices (included with the haircut) are based on the least experienced hairdresser. Sometimes there are colourists and hair stylists and you pay $X for the colour and then pay $Y for the level of the person who cuts/dries your hair. You have to watch out for this. Unless I am going somewhere I do not care about the blow dry - in summer I am happy to leave without it - but every second time I do need the haircut and then I need someone who knows what they are doing. I need the colour every time I go - thank heavens for hats and that I am very fair and need one - plus auburn hair colour fades fast. My hair is very deceptive but a good hairdresser can do anything with it - I can do nothing. I prefer to have someone who won't go crazy! Funny to be my age and people still want to do my hair. Yes it will grow, and grow it has been doing - now I need some layers put back in plus another couple of inches in length would be nice so that I don't look like a brillo pad. I agree. Some curls, if it is long enough, will help hide the crooked cut. How about a cute, floppy hat? They have such cute ones for little girls.

I'm officially not allowed to ever touch my DD's hair with scissors again. lol When she was little, I cut her bangs and to says the least did an awful job. So you're not alone - good thing is it grows back.

When my baby needed a haircut, I could not find anyone to do it in the northwest Chicago suburbs. Two of my neighbors were retired beauticians, and though they would not do it either, they showed me how. I cut my DDs and DSs hair till they were well into their teens. I bought hair cutting scissors, and later I did buy an electric clipper when the boys wanted a summer buzz.

Nicole! I just buzzed Luca's hair yesterday and accidentally used some sort of wedge thingy, but I thought is was the 1" long clipper piece. I quickly just shaved it all off (thank goodness you can do that with boys) but there are some "dents", ROTFL!!! Don't worry, and have her wear a hat. :) ((((NICOLE!!!))))

Nicole-Didn't you learn your lesson with Mandy?? I remember you posting a picture way back when of her "fur"cut! She didn't look very happy!!

My mom had to fix my hair once when I snuck a pair of scissors in my room. Cut a big chunk off the top! And I've done the too short bang thing, except I was a teenager (who knew wet hair shrinks when it dries!!) lol

Just gave DGS his 2nd hair cut. I am teaching DD how to do it and gave her my good hair cutting scissors too. He has a little curl in his hair, which is great for covering up goofs. Straight, fine blond hair is the hardest to cut, and I had that with one of my sons. I learned how to fix my mistakes quickly!

I have to laugh (know it probably isn't too funny right now) but I always got my DD's bangs too short. She's 41 now and still cringes if she sees me with a pair of scissors. We've all done it--the good news is it grows out and they live through it, devastating as it is to you right now.

Sorry, Nicole ... I have no remedial steps to offer, bing unversed in that field!

Would that all of our errors in life ...

... could be recouped so easily ... and quickly, too.

Trouble is - to a kid, a day seems an eternity.

Especially when travelling (by car).

The first,and I believe most important step to giving anyone a good hair cut is a good pair of scissors! That can make all the difference in the world.So if you are planning to give your child a haircut more than once,invest in a good pair from a beauty supply.They are a little expensive but well worth the money if you use them even occasionally.Just don't let the kids,(or DH) use them to cut paper or tape or wire or..........LOL I have to keep mine hidden! I cut my children's hair all their lives and made a few "mistakes" along the way.LOL My aunt was a beautician and I learned by watching her all the time.
Patti,I learned to always cut bangs about 1/4 longer than you think they should be and never cut them while holding the hair down with a comb.
Nicole-Sophie's hair will grow out.......eventually!LOL At least it wasn't Sophie cutting her own hair.Mine have all done that at least once in their lives.Or worse still,Sophie cutting the little neighbor girls pony tail off "above" the rubber band! Oldest DD did that when she was about 4 to the little girl next door.Her pony tail was pulled up high on the back of her head and came down almost to her waist. Needless to say her mom was irate but they were playing on her front porch and it was her DD's scissors that she used so I didn't feel quite so bad.She looked really cute with short hair.LOL
