Love the new haircut. You are one pretty lady. I am older than you, and when I go to a new stylist, I always let them know, I may be in my seventies but I don't like a hairstyle that each hair is in place. I like something fun, and very easy. Keep mine about the same length as yours and all I do is wash, put in some product, dry it , add more product for a "piecy" look. I personally think that being a stylist is a talent, word gets out when someone is really good in this profession. We moved to the coast last year and have already found a wonderful person in this town, all thanks to my two year old granddaughter. She noticed a new shop on our way from the library and I took her in for a cut, and the rest is history. So to the ones of your that are in the profession, I really appreciate your work. Enjoy your new style. It suits you perfectly.

Wow--you are all so nice! Last night I was afraid your wonderful comments (so many of them!) would go to my head and I'd become quite impossible to live with, but this morning I woke up looking like I was wearing a fright wig. So now my feet are back down on the ground where they belong. :-)

I'm planning on getting a haircut this month sometime,hope mine comes out half as good as yours.

I have chemo hair,and it didn't come back in a s thick as it used to be,so i let it grow out for a year hoping it would thicken up and get some body back into it,but it doesn't look like that's gonna happen and it's driving me crazy the way it is now,down to my shoulders.
Told my sister i was gonna let it grow into a long grey pony tail,wear some bright red lipstick and be one of those old(almost 73 yrs) olds trying to look young.LOL

Kathi, you didn't hijack a thing. A couple of my friends around my age have very long hair, and I've been tempted myself. I had long hair all my life until about five years ago. I miss it sometimes. But I don't know if I could pull off long hair at this point. It seems to drag down some older faces, and even seems to accentuate wrinkles, etc., sometimes. I dare not risk that!

Hmmm........the haircut. I do still like it, and I was interested to see the date of my first post, above, because I was thinking this morning that I really should make an appointment for a trim. I couldn't remember when I had it cut. I think my hair must grow unevenly, because the bottom looks like it has put more growth on than the top.

As for my success in styling it, that's kind of a roll of the dice--but only because of my lack of skill. I learned a few things about this cut, though. One is to forget about volumizing shampoos or anything else that's going to make the hair poof. Poofing is a no-no! Another is to go back to using conditioner, which I'd given up some time ago (in the days before this haircut, when poofing was okay).

That improved things, but I still had a long way to go. So I gave some thought to the products that the stylist used. I tend to like "natural" rather than "products," but this is a cut that demands products. I start with mousse when my hair is still quite damp. The stylist squirted it right into the top of my head, but I go a little easier than that. My favorite is Sally Hershberger's Style Primer. Then I spray root lifter at the roots on top (Garnier Fructis). Then I blow-dry, which is the tricky part. I have to do it without a mirror, and sometimes when I'm done I wonder how I managed to make such drastic mistakes. LOL

Assuming the blow-drying goes well, I usually use a curling iron or flat iron to get my bangs going in the right direction. Then I do a light application of texture paste (Garnier's Surf Hair) for that "piecey" look. And I apply some separately to my sideburns to prevent the Flying Nun look. Whew!

No, wait--I'm not finished! I always do a light spray with Sebastian Shaper hair spray. Amazingly, even with all this stuff in my hair, it still moves, still blows in the wind--which is the way I like it!

I've been retired two weeks now and find it hard to believe it will be like this every single day - that I can do what I want when I want and IF I want. Love it! I have a lot of hobbies and interests and I am so excited to have the time to enjoy all the things I want to do.

But, sheesh! that's a lot of work and product! LOL
I don't know if I could go to that much work. lol
I use a round brush and blow mine dry most of the time.
sometimes I will use a root lifter. and sometimes I will
just brush it and let it air dry. My hair is very fine,
I have a lot of it though. Any more product on my hair and
it just wears it down. I'm impressed with you, young lady!

Kat, I don't know if you should be impressed with me favorably or unfavorably. All this crazy attention to my hairstyle does not come naturally to me! In my heart, I still lust after the long, flowing, untainted hair I had for most of my life. But having it now would definitely put me in the "old hag" category. LOL

Susan, I feel your pain for lusting after the long, flowing hair that we once had. I always had long hair and never, ever dreamed I would go short! But figured it was time for me to get out of the "old hag" category too, so I now have an angled bob and I've gotten nothing but positive comments for my new do. I really like it too because it's more of a 'styled' look :)

I, too, used to have hair below my waist. And during
slumber parties when most of my friends were litereally
ironing their hair, or using dippity doo setting and sleeping in huge campbell soup cans to straighten theirs... I was using 3 sets of electric rollers
trying to get mine to curl! A very wasted effort. For even
if I could get it to curl, the weight of butt length
straight unlayerd hair would have pulled out any curl.
lol

I now enjoy my inverted bob that needs virtually no care!

Yeah, that's what it's called - the inverted bob. I curled my hair with hot rollers for years and years as well, but it would ultimately fall flat before the end of the day. I have very fine hair, but with this haircut, you'd never know it. I do still have to use an iron on my hair though cause my once stick straight hair has converted to kinky, ucky hair. I put a tiny amount of Silk Drops and some styling gel on my hair before using the iron and it comes out amazing every time. Another thing I like about it is that instead of washing and curling my hair every day, I now only wash/style twice a week. Annnnd, even if it's a 'bad' hair day, no one even notices! LOL

I did it, Susan, and I am attaching a photo. I am still undecided, but I will try it for a while. I have always had curls and perms and it is a big change, but since I retired and don't have to leave my hillside it makes it easier to try. My stylist (my niece) said it needs to grow some, but this is a start. Thanks for your response on how you now style yours (and for the link to your blog).
