I am trying to win a radio contest for American Idol tickets. Here are the clues-- does anyone have an idea of what this may be:

CLUE #1: It's in a box.

CLUE #2: It's smaller than a refridgerator box.

CLUE #3: There is writing on the box.

CLUE #4: There's more than one.

CLUE #5: Not everyone can use it.

CLUE #6: It can cause pain.

CLUE #7: It weighs less than a pound.

CLUE #8: It's part of a family.

CLUE #9: It comes with instructions.

CLUE #10: It can be found in the grocery store.

Thanks for the ideas! I think we are probably right that this is a physical process, and NOT a chemical one. Gee: just when I thought we stoners had only to focus on the myth that soapstone is porous and needs to be sealed...Now we have to go after that oxidation myth too. Er, well, at least we obsessed stoners do. Maybe that only means me! Where is Vicki... But I still can't quite get my brain around how this works. If I rub oil on other non porous surfaces (glass, ceramic, plastic) the color doesn't change at all. Wet ceramic doesn't look darker than dry ceramic. But if I rub oil or water on porous substances, then I see a color change. Yet soapstone is nonporous. So in what magical middle land does this stone reside where a purely topical application changes its color so dramatically? Maybe I should ask the Straight Dope guy. Supposedly there is no question he can't answer. I'll plan on doing that... Cleo: all that communing with my stone has done damage. I now have a severe case of tendonitis in my elbow!! I can't believe it. I am constantly reminded of that infamous Seinfeld episode, The Contest. Remember the hand model whose hands got stuck in a permanent claw shape from...er...overuse?? ;-) Francy

If I understand what you are saying, you won't see a triangle at all. If you create a flat wall across the front that finishes the tray (you may have to move those recessed fixtures) from the kitchen you will see the flat wall straight across. If you are at the sink and look up, you will see the edge of the wall and then you will see the angled part of the ceiling as it rises to meet the flat part of the bkft nook ceiling, just as you see the angled part on the sides and back of the tray. I wish I had an electronic way to model it for you, but I don't have any fancy software. Maybe someone else does. Or maybe you can model it yourself. Take a piece of paper and fold it in half lengthwise, then fold one half in half again, but cheat it so the fold is closer to the center fold. Then create tray...the half is the flat ceiling in the nook, the short quarter is at a right angle to it, the long quarter is angled toward the nook. Then hold it up over your head. That is what you will see when you look up...of course in real life the ends will be flat across the kitchen wall, angled with mitered corners into the breakfast nook, just as the other corners of the tray are angled.

Just wanted to post an update photo of my little plant. The three new rosettes have gotten a bit bigger and are actually starting to look more like compact rosettes. They also each seem to be putting out some air roots. The mother plant's leaves are looking a little worse for wear :) I also noticed that the mother plant seems to be putting out two new leaves in between a few of the old ones. I know it will still be a while before I can figure out the ID (and I may never know!), but it is looking a bit like green goddess as Lisa suggested above. When I was searching green goddess the other night, an image of another plant came up whose little rosettes look similar to mine--though this may be just because they are so young. Question: was the warping there BEFORE the recaulking/regrouting was done? No? OK so we know the disturbance of the caulking/grout started this whole thing. I would say the original company should be contacted to get their side of the story. What they had to do to get all the old caulking off and then add new caulking. The names of the products they used and if any deep scouring of the caulking had to be done. Rotary tools (like dremels) can pierce the water proofing membrane underneath, leaving areas of weakness that are susceptible to moisture (if it gets below the moisture barrier the water will follow wood joists to the lowest point on the floor and then start dripping down). If your floors OUTSIDE the bathroom are LOWER than the point of the water intrusion, then the water will simply flow down hill. If it is possible, you may have to look from underneath to find out where the water is coming from. A phone call to the stone company would be well worth it. This is where I would start: information gathering about techniques, tools and materials used.

Who are the sponsors of AI. Would the product belong to one of them?

i first thought aspirin until you came back with the 2001 clue.

if it is a sponsor product, coca cola is a sponsor and they introduced diet lemon coke that year, but i don't see where that would come with instructions or cause pain (unless you drink too much).

who is sponsoring your contest, a local place or AI themselves? that could help too.

Here's my guess....Peptol Bismol.

There are a family of complaints and cause pain....Nausea, heartburn, indigestion, upset stomachÂDiarrhea!

I think they may sponsor AI.

I'm not sure when the Pepto jingle with the little dance came out, but that's my guess anyway.

How about something to do with AT&T? Was their Friend's and Family thing introduced in 2001? What accesories can you buy for phones? And, what can you get at a grocery store?

They gave two clues a day, someone got it this morning. The answer is Crest White Strips.... I thought for sure I was going to win, as I was lucky enough to be the correct caller 4 out of the 12 times... but just didn't have the correct answer. They kept giving clues until the winner identified the product. Thanks for the help.
