The faucet-mount brand that rhymes with "Cure" is pure junk. I've had them replaced several times after calling the manufacturer and they soon end up leaking/spraying out the top. You can find folks on YouTube that share my sentiments so much that they smashed them in their videos.

I'll strongly echo the sentiments on the "Cure" system.
I've switched to the Brita pitcher that filters the water and is then kept in the refrigerator.

I assume homebound is talking about Pur. I've had those faucet mount filters and always ended up throwing them in the trash. I'm trying to locate a quality under counter system that isn't RO.

Thanks for the link, Justalurker. Sometimes there's so much stuff on the internet it's hard to find what you want. I like that Multi Pure - 25 year warrantee on the ss housing. Still a bit pricey, though, so we'll see.

You don't need a stainless housing. There are plenty of undersink and universal housings in use, even in industrial settings, that are plastic and work fine. I don't think an attached-to-the-tap filter would be built well at all.

I'd look for one that doesn't lock you into buying proprietary filters. Those (GE fridge ones in particular) are simply a guaranteed profit center for the OEM.

my wife bought her mom a countertop filter 15yrs ago? silver coated resin beads. about $175? big fight over that one. i was at a garage sale a few years back and the guy had 10 of them. told me all about the marketing scam/scheme. i got 1 for $10. actually, he gave me 2 for that price.
