Antique Setee - Too Fancy for Back Entry Area?
Comments (45)So glad you bought this piece and I like your analogy. I think small solid accent pillows would work but would hide the cutwork. However for comfort they may be necessary. I certainly wouldn't reupholster until that fabric wears out or you tire of it. I think the art works well as that settee might have been in a farmhouse with such a view. I also think that the juxtaposition of the more rustic pic and frame with the formal settee is wonderful and the colors go well with the upholstery fabric, the stained wood, and the walls. The best decorated rooms IMO are those which have the unexpected rather than the 'safe' and sometimes boring choices. I like your choices and look forward to seeing what else you do in your decor. Comments (13)I have double glass doors and at some point their stained glass was replaced with clear glass. We have double doors to outside that are heavy oak, but even so, when I'm coming down the stairs in my jammies and someone knocks on the door they have a full view...no time to hide! I absolutely HATE that! (you have to go through two sets of doors to get into the house if that makes sense? Victorian thing). After having lived with this for three years, I would push you towards the most distortion possible...Autumn is nice, and you can't see clearly what's on the other side. This is not a bad thing :) We will be putting back in stained glass in a very distorted pattern. You can work a peep hole into a frame if you want one, but that's not such a concern for me...I just want the ability to not answer the fedex man in my sleeping gear!...See MoreClear glass or privacy glass for entry door
Comments (33)Sorry, but I suspect the type of glass won't have much to do with how your dog(s) behave at the front door since they have a high sense of smell and hearing. And once the doorbell goes off it's like opening the gates for a race--sight has little to do with it. So that's for the canine issue... Yeah, I was going to say much the same thing. Our dog knows when our cars are approaching. When he hears my husband's truck, he runs to the door to "greet Daddy" -- but he is at the door before the truck pulls into the driveway ... sometimes Daddy fools me and walks around the house to enter through the back door, but he never fools the dog. I'm told he behaves the same way when I approach the house. Yet he doesn't lift a paw when other people drive down the street -- he knows the sound of OUR cars. But woe to the UPS man who dares to walk onto dog's porch to leave a package or the yard guys who enter dog's back yard; the dog does not approve of them, and he makes his displeasure known. The real upshot of this situation: I'm talking about a dog who has been blind since birth. He doesn't look out the windows at all, yet he knows and reacts to people arriving at the house. So my guess is that your dog is going to do what your dog is going to do. The type of glass you choose will not change his behavior....See MoreFancy/"front" door at garage entrance?
Comments (9)Are you talking the door from outside to the garage? Or garage into the house? Our current (completely remodeling) house, has the main door and garage door directly across from each other--about 8 feet apart. I still have to install new doors before selling this house. But I will do the nice front door with glass on the guest interest and the same panel style without glass for the garage door. If you decorate your doors, you could always do a smaller version of a wreath or whatever seasonal decor on the garage door...which would cover up the glass anyway. In our new house, we will have the fancy front door with sidelights, and a similar style, but simpler for our family porch entrance. Both spaces will be landscaped and decorated. The other option would be to do the same doors (maybe simpler glass than the one you show?) and paint the front door a color (teal, navy, red, etc) and the garage door the same as your trim? I get your desire to also enter your home in a nice space. And it should be nice. But, the common is to dress up your guest entrance even more. When you think about it, often when you come home, the home may not be in perfect condition. But, when you have company, you want it to look its best. The awesome thing about homeownership is you can do it however you like. Like nycefarm said, find a way to keep a little light on in the garage....See Morewisrose
