Is there a recipe? Are they maraschino cherries? (I hope not) They are adorable and the kids would love them.

Michelle, they are adorable, but the picture is so distant that I have trouble seeing how you do the faces. I can see how you put slivered almonds for ears, but what are their faces? Can you please post a closer shot of just one?

These are so simple!

Granjan, yes they are maraschino cherries and I don't care for them either. But you can use fresh black cherries too but I was afraid people would bite into them and break a tooth on the pit. And if I pitted the cherries I was concerned the cherry would collaspe when dipping into the hot chocolate. But fresh cherries would be worth a try. Just make sure they have long stems.

I just saw a picture of the Mice, I think it was on the Recipe Exchange and copied what I saw in the picture.

Chocolate Covered Mice

Cherries, either fresh or maraschino, but must have stems
1 bag chocolate chips
Extra Chips, either dark or white chocolate or mixed (I like the mixed the best)
2 tbl crisco
Red icing for the eyes
Almond slivers

If you are using maraschino cherries, drain cherries and allow them to dry a bit. Melt chocolate chips with 2 T. crisco in a double boiler. Holding the cherry by the stem, dip each cherry in the melted chocolate and place on a parchment lined cookie sheet. Let the chocolate cool a little bit.

Then transfer the dipped cherry to another parchment lined cookie sheet and make sure to lay the cherry on it's side.

Secure a chocolate chip to the tip of the cherry for the face. And place 2 almond slivers similar in size behind the chocolate chip face for the ears.

Put the cookie sheet of mice in the refrigerator for a few hours until the chocolate hardens and even better if you can leave in the frig over night. Then add the icing eyes. You can either do this with a fine tipped squirt bottle or a toothpick.

Notes: I did not have good luck with white chocolate when dipping the cherries. Maybe it was my brand of white chocolate? But I could not get the white chocolate thick enough to conseal the red cherry color and I dipped the cherries 3 times.

I found it better to place the face chocolate chip a bit higher on the cherry then on the end tip. If you do it right on the end it is difficult to see the eyes.

You can put a dap of icing for the eyes and then a gold or silver dragee in the middle of the icing which would really make them sparkle. I planned on adding the dragee but I am just too tired and we are leaving tomorrow for KY to pick up my pups. And I had to get the mice done today.

I can't seem to get a good closeup with my camera or maybe it's my photography skills. But here's the photo I used as a model to make mine. I hope this helps.

Forgot to add that I saw the picture of the mice on the Recipe Exchange, I think, last year. Or maybe it was a reference to Candy Mice and I found the picture on the Internet. Whatever, it was a while ago.

Sherry here is an individual picture I found on the web. It is made with a chocolate cover maraschino, almond slivers for ears and then a chocolate kiss for the face.

The kiss makes the face much bigger and a totally different look to the candy. I might make these with fresh cherries!

The chocolate is still soft then you apply the kiss/chip and almond ears. The chocolate does not harden until put in the frig.

Hmmmmmm...I'm thinking that maybe the Brandied Cherries I put up last Summer would work for the mice. The cherries were huge and with the brandy and chocolate...OH MY!

oh my--if those aren't just the CUTEST little mousies i've ever seen! and not my biggest sin by far but, i'll have to admit to loving maraschino cherries. just adorable!

Michelle, I just love them! I had no idea what I would see in this thread, and was thrilled to see your adorable little mice. I may try these if I feel ambitious. Just made LindaC's caramel cheetos and also Epicurious' Holiday Cranberry Pistachio Biscotti, after I said I was done with treats for this year!

I'm going to have the mice running around on top of my cookie baskets this year! I could not wait to make them...they are just too cute and really not difficult at all.

I can't wait until next summer and our cherry tree starts producing again. Leaving the stems on will save a step too!
