My grandma eats sweets including homemade pies with 1-2 c sugar per pie, loves sweets in general, eats too many fried foods for my taste, doesn’t eat paint chips, bathes in a porcelain tub, and was JUST moved to a nursing facility this year since she’s losing her mobility (mind is still intact) and in another month she will be celebrating her 100th birthday. You don’t have to live in a bubble to live a long life. Much of your life expectancy is predetermined in large part by genetics. Use common sense and don’t lick the bathtub.

My Ultra Bain air tub looks similar. Has raised area at the, er, rear. Has arm rests and handles and a head rest. It's acrylic and heated. I chose mine to fit *me*, since DH prefers a shower. I was able to 'try one on' in a plumbing company's showroom. I wanted to be able to brace my feet so I wouldn't just slip right down underwater. I also wanted something that would fill in a short time. (We have a whirlpool tub that I never use because it takes ages to fill.) My tub is 14 years old. Zero problems. Easy to clean. Air tubs 'blow out' remaining water a few minutes after you exit them so there is no mold forming in the tubing. I have a regular fill faucet and a spray rinse on a diverter.

I had a reply that just disappeared! GRR. Short version: Plumber didn't install a new valve, used the old one. However to my dismay, they installed an ugly (to me) handle/faucet...because they are limited in choices using the old valve. If there had been a new valve installed, maybe a different outcome? I showed the plumber what HD had that I preferred. Turns out plumbers don't have wholesale inventory access to HD and they think the HD hardware is "lower quality". So now I am stuck with limited options because of the old valve business. I have a nice brushed nickel finish on my sink taps. I'm not asking to match 100%. But I would have liked a nice clean finish in a similar tone of brushed nickel for my bathtub tap. At the time of ordering, I thought the liner was the way to go. Our house is pre 1990 and I didn't really want the hassle of asbestos testing and redoing the tile surround.

Not a silly question. When you have water forcefully hitting the inclined side of the tub high enough up, though most of it will splash downwards, some of it goes sideways, and some of it -- counterintuitively -- splashes back upwards from where it strikes the side and you can actually have a small puddle start to form on the floor in this area from water spray bouncing up and escaping this way. It the water doesn't hit the side of the tub, but only the bottom of the tub, it doesn't bounce high enough to do this.
