Help find paint color in photo

From the first moment I saw this photo, I was in LOVE with the purple wall. Oh, I thought it was just a flirtation. I mean, I like purple and all.... But I can no longer deny it. I love this purple. It must be mine! I've come to realize it's the perfect color for my hallway--a hallway I have neglected because I couldn't figure out what color to paint it.

It was obviously love at first sight. But.... what do you do when you don't know his name?? I've tried emailing the blog where I first saw it. I tracked down the photographer and emailed him. These people either back away and say they know nothing or they don't return my messages. I'm not a stalker! It's love I tell you! True love!

Can you help me find my true love?? Have you seen his picture in a magazine? More importantly, WAS THERE A CAPTION WITH HIS NAME???? Okay, *deep breaths* I'm fine. Really.

Please. I need your help. Don't make me put this picture on a milk carton!

I've not seen this photo. Are you sure that the walls are painted? It looks like it might be a velvet. Tricia Guild has a fuchsia that looks quite violet on my screen. You could email Ellen Kennon and ask her to create that color for you.

The color in real life may not look like that. Your best bet would be to go to a paint store and get the chips that most resemble it and pick one of those.

Your bathroom is wonderful, newhomebuilder! I love the wall color. msrose, I have looked at Twilight Gold (only on the strip), and I think it's a little too taupe. But I may get a sample so that I can see it in the room. I have a little more time now - the contractor had to order the wood he needs for the baseboard and molding, so that and the installation of the toilet and sink are now put off for at least a week. So I will continue thinking and perhaps get a new sample or two. It also occurred to me that I might mix the Acorn Yellow (darkest board) with the Yellow Squash (peachier shade) - they are next to one another on the color strip. I'm worried that the Acorn Yellow is too pumpkin-y.

Love the house! I couldn't quite tell what colors are in adjoining rooms, but on my monitor, your first 2 mentions above looked 'fleshy'. I consulted a designer years ago who suggested a color for my bedroom, which turned out 'fleshy' and I had to stop after one wall as it just looked awful. Check out this link for colors that Better Homes and Gardens had an article on - Paint Colors for Rooms Trimmed With Wood This one looked very nice to me, and I think your sofa and the one pictured are similar in color. Oldbat2be, thank you so much for the mock ups! This was the kick in the pants I needed to talk to my contractor. I forgot to mention that our w/d will be white too so the cabs will likely clash with those, so I think we've got to paint. mdln, good suggestion -- I'm pretty sure they are warm. I'll check and see if cool lights help. daisychain01, thanks, reveal hopefully coming soon! raven, I just looked at Krypton and it is beautiful. I'm going out to get some samples tomorrow and will paint a sample board of my top 3 colors and put it in the room and report back.

Thanks for your input. I'll definitly be doing a whiter trim no matter what color I go with. I'm considering a blue-gray as you mentioned. I tried uploading a photo. Benjamin moore whale gray. Or Sherwin Williams smoky blue. I tried uploading photos but it never works. Really frustrating. Normally I would want something to pop out of the landscape but in person there something nice about driving up to it. It's private and woody so it feels tucked in. If I went with sage it doesn't have to be this exact shade and it would have a lighter trim.

Actually, even if you had the color name, I wouldn't count on it looking like that...those photos get photoshopped to death. Good luck!

Parhelia, I cannot help you with the color name, and once you typed in the word "purple" I almost clicked away without even looking...............but..........

Wow. That room is stunning. I am a brave color person, but not brave enough to do purple of any shade. However.......if one WERE brave enough, and one had some similarly amazing furniture and pillows to complete the look, then one Should, I repeat---Should search the world over to find that paint shade.

It is gorgeous and I suspect it will take about 3 or 4 coats of it to look this good.

My first thought was, must be full spectrum to create the change from left to right and glow like that. I think kitchendetective is right, send Ellen a link to this photo, and if anyone can re-create the look, it's EK! Good luck!

Admittedly, I want to put this in a hallway that only gets some light in the early morning. Is that a really bad idea? It's basically one wall; the other side of the hall is mostly taken up with doors and cabinets (in a lovely honey-toned wood that is almost the same color as the couch in the photo!). I have these sparkly embroidered scraps of Indian sari fabric that I want to frame and hang in a grouping down the hallway. I was considering some kind of track lighting in order to put spotlights on the sari scraps, so that should help with the hallway being dark, right?

I won't cry if I can't get THIS shade of purple, but I really want something plummy or that great Bollywood deep magenta. Since it's such a small space and the extra work wouldn't be such a big deal, I've considered some kind of hot pink primer with a plum glaze over it. But there's the possibility that would come out looking very eighties. I don't want eighties. I want Bollywood!

Yes, I am crazy. :-D
