Try using the BM color capture app, you can tap on different areas of the picture and get a matching paint color. Tapping on different areas of the cabinet gave me > dozen colors.

mdln, Eclipse is beautiful! It's along the lines of what I was looking for. Deep Secret is nice but on the darker side, and this is a tiny room. I also found BM Deep Silver, which I kind of like.

The cabinets are actually already installed and they are white. I was disappointed with the white, as I think they look drab and sterile. These are the only white cabinets in the house (the rest are walnut and blonde). We haven't spoken to our contractor yet, but I'm considering having them re-painted.

What do you all think? Worth re-painting or should I just live with the white, get a colorful rug, paint the room and be done with it? I don't think the cost to re-paint would be too significant as there aren't many cabinets -- just the two uppers and three lowers. In person, they look creamy next to the white quartz and yellow-ish next to our floors. I'm just not loving them. Anyone have any good photoshop skills that can help me visualize to see if painting is worth the extra cost?

Have you tried changing your lighting? I had to switch to a high K (cool) bulbs to get my white cabs to look good with my countertop & backsplash.

I used a blue gray, it's Sherwin Williams Krypton. Love it. It does change colors with the different light during the day. I too use led cool daylight bulbs

Sorry, but I think you definitely need to paint those cabs the steel blue colour you are considering. Waiting with baited breath for your entire reveal :)

Oldbat2be, thank you so much for the mock ups! This was the kick in the pants I needed to talk to my contractor. I forgot to mention that our w/d will be white too so the cabs will likely clash with those, so I think we've got to paint.

mdln, good suggestion -- I'm pretty sure they are warm. I'll check and see if cool lights help.

raven, I just looked at Krypton and it is beautiful. I'm going out to get some samples tomorrow and will paint a sample board of my top 3 colors and put it in the room and report back.

Last, a collage of all, along with your inspiration picture. On both of my monitors, Eclipse seems to match most closely.

I like Deep Secret and then Eclipse the best. Strong and crisp.

Spoke to my contractor and it's only a small charge to have them re-painted, so we are going to plow ahead and do it. I'm going to paint a few sample boards and will post for some input. Thanks for your help, everyone and especially oldbat2be for all the mockups. I'm also really liking Deep Secret and Eclipse - might be nice to have some contrast in there.
