Don't know if it's the "best" but have a Cuisinart mini-chopper. Only has 2 speeds... low and high... but seems pretty powerful. Easy to clean up. And found it at a thrift store for cheap... hadda be $5 or less... kinda my limit!?!

mine is a proctor silex and i have had it for about 8 years. it is still going strong and i use it at least once a week. i only paid about $10 for it at a walgreens. good luck with whatever you decide on. ;)

I have a little Sunbeam Oskar that has been a little workhorse in my kitchen. I've had it for years and years.

I have an old Hamilton Beach, and I like it because it has slow speeds and will make pickle relish without making pickle puree. I also use it for making deviled ham/turkey, and it will chop everything just the way I like it, but I have to add the ingredients in a certain order or else take them out to put something else in. It's good for making pesto, which I like to have chunky instead of pureed. I puree most of it but put the pine nuts in last and then pulse it to get a coarse chop.

A friend of mine had a Cuisinart, and it would puree everything in seconds and therefore was difficult to control. Make sure you get one with a pulse option and multiple speeds. I also have a Kitchenaid hand blender with a chopper attachment, but I don't use it because it is really too small to be of much use. I tend to use my mini food processor more than the large one because it is easier to clean.

I've had a Mini Oskar for at least 20 years. I loved it until I got a Magic Bullet. Now the Mini Oskar is at the camp and I use the Magic Bullet daily. I've had the Magic Bullet almost 5 years and can't imagine life without it.

I use it to chop, for smoothies and frozen drinks, making salad dressings and sauces and as a juicer. It's so easy to clean. I love the mugs you can just blend in and go. The easy of use, power and easy cleaning have me sold.

I have a Krups which I have used for about 12 years, and it is still going strong. Prior to that had one that I cannot recall the brand of, but it lasted for around 30 years.

I must be the only one here that uses a non-motorized mini chopper! LOL Mine is a Pampered Chef that you smack the knob on the top to chop or mince. For big jobs I use my food processor, but for small jobs I do love my little PC chopper.

I just recently bought a small, individual serving blender, similar to the Magic Bullet, but made by GE. Have only used it once, so far to make a smoothie, but I think it'll come in handy. It has both a grinding and a chopping blade.
