More drapes hung!!!

Well, I hung the white linen look drapes with a 2' black bottom border in the back bedroom. This is where a queen bed will be one day. There are two black computer desks on left wall facing drapes. One desk and a black wire shelf will be taken out when the bed comes in.

Sheila - I LOVE that recliner! The fabric is gorgeous, and it is priced well. Plus, it seems to have good reviews. I like the red or the black fabric print. We aren't big folks at all, but we do have a couple of people in our family who visit now and then who are. I completely agree about the expense of furniture issue. On the one hand, I don't want the furniture to wear out in five years, but on the other hand, I don't want to break the bank either. The hardest part for me right now is coordinating. The room is large, and I don't feel confident in my ability to mix and match pieces, etc. I know what I like, just not how to pull it all together. For example, does all of the furniture in the room need to be covered with the same fabric? I'm hoping not. I'd rather mix it up a bit. So it will be great to see what the designer comes up with. work in progress - Like you, the combination of many large windows and not necessarily liking everything out there caused me to wait over two years to buy drapery panels. The panels are Brookside Diamond by Country Curtains in the espresso color (also comes in cream and rose). The quality is excellent. They cost $129 per pair in the 96" length. For one thing, the fabric is heavy (73% rayon and 27% polyester). I didn't purchase them lined because it costs $60 per pair (and I have 15 panels!), plus I didn't want any white showing on the sides, etc. I hope I don't regret that, and I don't think I will, as the fabric is heavy as it is. I ordered a sample before purchasing. I pressed each panel before hanging with my steam iron, and they barely needed that. I hate wrinkles and was really concerned about it, but they ironed easily. I'm posting a link below to the Country Curtains site. Anyway, I can't tell you how much warmer the room feels. What a difference. I understand your feelings about "taking the plunge". Hi Susan : ) Hope you're having luck with finding your new rug. Haven't been following the drape saga, but if it were me :) I'd hang the dr drapes higher and just over the side edge of the inset. The elegant elongation and additional light is a nice touch, I think. But we know you're not gonna do that! lol I also think it would be pretty to put your buffet/storage along the back window, bringing some accessories in there with a couple of pretty lamps, and bringing the table forward a bit. Just my $.02. Your house is really coming together! I like the study drapes both ways : )

Thank you so much for sharing! We have the same (almost) trim and everything! Funny! This gives me a great visual. Now, do you ever feel "exposed" with that constant opening at the tops? I have neighbors pretty close on the side of the double hung, and across the street neighbors opposite the bigger window. I am sure they could see in from their 2nd floors... Such a dilemma - I don't know how to solve the privacy issue. I can't fit a shade because I don't have enough depth to inside mount both, and using drapery panels is tough because I have furniture up against both windows, so it would be a pain to pull them at night. SIGH I could have worse problems, right??

Oh, the sconces have a context! Well, that's a whole different look! Yep, get rid of the gloomy painting. I also notice there's so much spaciousness on your cathedral-ceilinged wall, and it looks jarring to me juxtaposed against all the things in the living room. I don't own a cathedral ceiling myself, though, so I don't have experience addressing this. I agree on finding a home for the loveseat in another room. However, I'm not convinced a chair identical to the black one would be the best choice. I think I'd choose one that has a softer shape (rounder? fluffier?). You have so much with severe lines already, I think it would be nice to have a contrast. Then I'd echo the "softer" line in a piece of artwork across the room. Or maybe you could get a contrasting curve by removing the sconces and one of the table lamps and putting in a conversation-piece floor lamp with a dramatic arc over the room.

Thanks. Yea, Kiley sat up when I was taking the photo from the guest bed. And I also love walking into the black and white room. I have a lot of my pencil drawings hung up plus my daughter's self portrait. Even though she is in law school, I don't want her to stop drawing. She is very talented. She is also good at photography, something I like to do as well. The glass table and chairs used to be my kitchen set but this bedroom setup I like even better. I can't wait to get the queen bed in here with a cream embroidered duvet, white sheets, and a black bedskirt. I have two decor pillows from the last house. One has some crystal beads and the other is lamb fur. Then I have another pillow insert which I will use to create another cream and white pillow with a bunch of extra pearls, not real pearls. I thought of that last night. Another reason I wanted to get some of these drapes up is because soon the weather will start warming up and the front of the house faces south. I am not sure if I will hang drapes in the living room although I have them ready to go, but the wall is stone like the exterior. I would need a masonry bit for my drill, wouldn't I? I would not want to drill too many holes. I would have to measure carefully. The drywall holes are easy to fill.
This is a shot of some of the art from last house. The one I did not hang is the blue Salvador Dali lithograph which I received as a wedding present 33 years ago. Wow. Plus I have to get rid of the large computer on the right of last photo. It's a Mac from 1990 - still works. It cost me a fortune back then and was top of the line. I might just take out the hard drive to avoid all of the work erasing the drive and reinstalling an old, very old operating system that no one uses any more. I do not have any of the stuff underneath desks in last photo in this house. I will probably need a new file cabinet but that will have to wait.
