Did Anyone Get Anything New to Wear For Easter?

I got a new sleeveless top with a matching jacket. It is a deep turquoise in color. It has embroidery along the front of the jacket and along the neckline of the top, no buttons. I spent all of $3.00 on it at a rummage sale. Very good deal! Fits perfectly and I am wearing it to church this morning.

Nope,just not into that Easter Parade stuff anymore. I got up, made coffee,fed the pets. I'm making brunch for the family when they wake up. We don't really celebrate since MIL is gone. I did convince DH to go out to a restaurant this afternoon. I'm tired of cooking.

Nothing new for me. I'm wearing a dress that I haven't worn since last spring, so it's kinda new.

You got a great deal on your jacket!!!

I also tried a mix of cherry tomatoes and it sold very well. People loved them and kept coming back for more. I had Black Cherry, IsIs Candy, and Dr. Carolyn. The Black Cherry is a for sure for next year and I will probably grow the others also. I also plan to grow some other different ones to add to the mix. Was planning on trying the yellow, red, and black pear tomatoes next year for a mix. I think people would really like those too. People always love our colored peppers, and were especially crazy about our purple ones (Islander from Johnnys). The purple ones sold out every week, and is another thing people just kept coming back for. I plan to grow those next year and add another purple variety also (different shade of purple). I also grew one type of green sweet pepper and people loved that also. I plan to grow other types of sweet peppers next year. I grew Bush Baby Zucchini (from Johnnys) and that seemed to do pretty well. DidnÂt grow too many of them since it was just a trial, but next year I plan to grow more of them. In the spring our salad mixes did really really well. We did not plant any fall lettuces and greens though because we have big plans for the area we plant them in and are going to be working on putting up a hoophouse, and rearranging everything. No one else at our market sells lettuce and greens which is why I think they sell so well for us. Well those were some of my biggest successes and I will have to post again about what some of my failures were.

It was 2 degrees here this morning. brrr! Sun is out, haven't been out there yet. Hope these temps are going to be short lived. The furnace has been cranking. Thanks Jane, interesting article. I am a marmalade fan, so IÃ¢ÂÂll have to look for some of these brands that have ginger in them and try it. DtD, that recipe sounds delicious. We will use a roast for pot roast once in awhile, but never thought of using it as a base for chili. So do you use beans with it or just Ã¢ÂÂchiliÃ¢ÂÂ spices? Sounds like I could use a large crockpot, too. Bill, I have been looking for new Ã¢ÂÂsoupÃ¢ÂÂ recipes, so IÃ¢ÂÂll have to try your version this winter. We had an Italian connection in our family in the past, and my Mother was a huge fan of many Italian dishes and got her sauce recipe from an old world Italian woman. We make lots of sauce and chicken cacciatore, minestrone soup and thereÃ¢ÂÂs always some of that in our freezer. Making tiny meatballs for chicken soup sounds like a new fun version. And the escarole adds a lot of nutrition. BTW, there is a new book out called Eating on the Wild Side, that reviews current studies of nutrition in food and I was surprised to learn that a can of tomato paste is chockful of nutrition and during the off season when fresh vegetables are not available from the garden, beans are one of the highest nutritional foods you can eat. And blue cornmeal if from a non GMO source, is also better nutritionally than yellow cornmeal, according to the book. So chili made with canned tomatoes and beans with blue cornbread is a very healthy meal. And the book is a very interesting read, if you donÃ¢ÂÂt find nutrition too dull. It also offers names of varieties of vegetables and fruits that are the highest in nutrition, that you can grow. As for gardening, IÃ¢ÂÂm not quite in the garden mindset yet. Later in January, IÃ¢ÂÂm sure that will change, but I am very interested in how all the Ã¢ÂÂzone pushersÃ¢ÂÂ are faring. As much of a worry as it is to have the temps dip so low, Bill, you are right, this will be a good test of which varieties are really solid zone pushers and I will be fascinated to see whose plants survive come spring. All of them, I hope!

I'm glad others like Zenni too! Joanie - I'm going to look for that moisturizer. I like Neutrogena Healthy Skin liquid makeup. For reference, it reminds me of Clinique Even Better. I'd call it light to medium coverage. It's slightly dewy. My skin goes back and forth between combination normal/oil to normal/dry. It's the only drugstore foundation I found I like. Boop - Yes, they do the progressives! Thanks for the link. I would think photoshop would fix any tiny imperfections in her hands, but if her hands aren't near perfect I'm sure they can, and will, find someone else. I wanted to pick up almond oil while out and got all side tracked. It's on my list for next time! Sue - I'm glad to hear the Avon products are working! They're ones I'd like to try. I'm still not the most consistent at using face products. Mtnrd - Oh, they sound great! I'm going to try them. I discovered a few weeks ago a real simple caesar salad dressing that's just mayo (I like Hain's safflower mayo), lemon juice, and olive oil. It's so simple and I think it tastes right when on a salad. I really like Lypsyl Bee Smooth lip balm. I wanted to try something different and bought it because I liked the look of the tube. I apparently grabbed the mint kind because it has a slight minty feel that I would prefer it didn't. It goes away after a while. My lips were cracked and sore and after less than a day of use my lips were great. Still are. I always layer something under lipstick and I was impressed that my lips, for the first time, weren't dried out later. It also seems to last on your lips without the need to reapply often. Also like Neutrogena Pure and Free Baby Faces SPF 45 for my face.

I loved dressing up for Easter as a child growing up in the Stone Age! Everyone had something new and pretty and my father had to take pictures to send to relatives - they did the same. About 5 years ago, I decided I wanted a new Easter outfit. Went to NYC and bought gorgeous navy Italian wool - not quite a crepe but not a flannel - and beautiful navy with white polka dots silk. I bought a silk with pin dots for the lining of the coat, and China silk to line the dress. My dressmaker made these for me - did handbound button holes on the coat and covered buttons - she knew I would notice. Also, put in dress zipper by hand. I had a beautiful Milano navy straw hat by Mr John, that was at least 50 years old that I had saved. I had the dressmaker interlined the polka dot silk and make a new bow for the hat. Wire black patent Roger Vivier "pilgrim" mid healed pumps, triple strand pearls, and a fabulous brooch (lapis lasuli, jade and diamonds in 18kt gold) I had treated myself to earlier. Now I needed gloves! Leather? Too heavy for spring. White cotton? Easter early in March that year - too summery. I needed something I hadn't seen in decades - white doeskin leather gloves (think slightly creamy and very soft with a slight nap). Did the even exist? No, they did not...until I found a brand new pair, still in cellophane wrapper, with the Trimmingham!s Bermuda price sticker still on it - found them on Etsy. Just found this selfie I took in the full length mirror with good lighting in my DD's childhood bathroom. Yes, I was channeling the Queen, my fashion icon for old ladies. I looked great and I don't know when I've enjoyed any outfit more. I had dressmaker make a matching navy wool dress for colder weather, with this lightweight spring coat (remember those?) or under a fur coat for church in the winter. Haven't decided what I'll wear this year - get back from London about 11pm night before so won't be at the top of my game. But I'll wear a hat, if for no other reason than I will gave missed my weekly hair appt!

Nothing new to wear, no real neat plans for today, it is raining.

Yup, I got a spring green 3/4-sleeve stretch blouse from the Salvation Army for $4.

Boy, when I think back to my youth.....every Easter, brand new dress, coat, shoes, even hat! My kids had new Easter dresses, too, even though we didn't go to church. It was part of the tradition.

I love to hear about those bargains, my favorite kind of shopping....It's been a long time since I've gotten a new "outfit" for Easter....Since it was early Mass, I even wore black pants and a sweater....

Now it's almost lunch time and we're waiting for DD and her crew to come for breakfast...Her teenagers don't move too fast on the weekends....

I too bought a new top at the Salvation Army, it was $2.99 and then 25% off. Good deal, looks great on me.

we never left the house...did change clothes twice...was looking for something and that lead to cleaning off the old shelving unit from the laundry room, to the new one...had to shower and get dressed again...

I needed a pair of dress pants for our Sunrise Service at church today. It is held in a mauseleum...I KNOW that word is spelled wrong! Went to JC Penney's and got a pair of slacks and a very pretty dressy blouse. Kind of expensive even though they were on sale. It was very cold during that service and I was glad I chose to wear slacks! I haven't had anything new for Easter in many, many years.

Almost.

The widow of a colleague from when we were in Korea together (50 years ago) gave me some of Walter's clothes last year, and a few months ago said that she had some more that were in their cottage - including a nice light blue suit, newly cleaned.

I've worn it once or twice before - to comments on how good it looks on me.

Trouble is ... I have to pull in the gut to get the pants to close ... and then would find it hard to run, which necessitates heavy breathing ... but there is a tad of good news: there's a bit of extra cloth at the seat-seam.

Wore it to 8:00 a.m. "Sunrise" prayer service, then breakfast, then regular Easter service, including communion.

Good wishes for an uplifting week ahead, everyone.
