spybot.....do you use it?......suggestions please

While I'm on the computer I many times hear the tower buzzing away and the little light flashing like something is loading on my machine.

But I never see anything.

Supposedly I have some kind of spy defense but it's not listed anywhere and I can't run it on demand. It is supposed to be running in the background. That makes me nervous...I want to see and know that it is doing something.

Any suggestions?

Yes, I have used Spybot, but I prefer Ad-Aware. I actually use both.I find Ad-Aware easier to use and update.

Spybot only runs when you run it. I sometimes get the noise from the tower too, that is kind of unsettling.

I like Spybot. I use it about once a month and it usually catches about 20 things.

Mike, I can share my story. I read the content here gritty mix on this forum several times before I went and got the ingredients. pine bark fines/peatmoss/perlite/gardenlime(pellets. Went by 5-1-1 mixture. Started with my jasmines in 4inch containers. Started the mix by wetting peatmoss then adding perlite to it and then pine bark fines. I did not mix gardenlime right away but added in pots 1/2tsp per pot and watered them. Drainage is excellent. I did not use anything to block the drainage holes and water is draining very well yet looks wet. Looks like the plants need watering more frequent than when using potting soil. However I do notice the leaves yellowing(chlorosis). How do I correct this? by adding ironite? I like the mix but not sure I did it correctly because I did not measure the size of the pinebark fines to be 1/8thinch. Some of them may be larger also, not sure. I do not have a seive, where can I buy soil seives. If I need one where do I find one for reasonable price. Did I do the mix correctly, I still feel that I may have messed and I also need to fertilize on regular basis with liquid fertilizer. Alos wonder if I applied garden lime correclty. Experts, please advice

I've tried orange peels and rose cuttings at the same time(chopped up and spread around the garden) and that seems to keep them from using it as a litter box, they still come by and chase birds and squirrels! Next year I would like to add some gardens to attract song birds so if the neighbors don't take them in, we'll have them trapped and call "Animal Control" to pick them up... it's sad to think they'll be outdoors in the bitter cold all winter. :( *Bee*

I was introduced to "Hawaiian" pizza in Vancouver in 1976 - I hated it then and still do. I do not like anything sweet on pizza, and pineapple is horrible because not only is it sweet, it is also soggy. I'm okay with the Canadian bacon, but hold the pineapple. I had always assumed that Hawaiian pizza was a [bad] Canadian invention. OTOH, I love Bloody Caesars, and I had those first in Vancouver. I make a lot of pizza style sandwiches using ciabatta bread or something similar, and I generally just make it Margherita style. I also make pizza style quesadillas using a flour tortilla and pizza toppings. I make these when I am eating alone - otherwise I make the pizza dough for 2 to 3 pizzas at a time. Everything I put on pizzas (plus more) has already been listed here, and I'm not terribly adventurous with pizzas. I have found that certain ingredients, such as mushrooms and bell pepper, need to be sautéed before adding, as they can make the pizza soggy. I prefer to grill the pizzas outside, and I have a pizza stone for our Big Green Egg, but I won't do that unless I am having a party, as a rule.

I am so sorry to be so late in acknowledging my joy at finding that you are back among us again, Paula. It has been several weeks...maybe close to months since I've remembered to check in on the forum. Another death in the family - my dear mother-in-law, in her 99th year. She was declining for awhile and passed away the day before your surgery, Paula. I am relieved for you that your surgery went well and that you are on the road to recovery. "When the going gets tough, the tough get going"! You are an inspiration to us all and your indomitable spirit is that of a warrior. Your sense of humour is aces and I'm sure you have many of us laughing our heads off regularly... like earlier tonight when I finally logged into the forum. You seem to wear it like a second skin. I ran away from our brutal winter and arrived back in Dubai on the 2nd, will be languishing here visiting my daughter for three weeks --- the garden centre beckons....on the hunt for hostas, what else? My daughter has lots of garden space, weather is perfect for me, (no snow nor temps of -24C - only sunny skies, balmy breezes, sandy beach and plus24 temps!) Wish you could recuperate here.... this sunrise is for you. My bedroom view ...and a neglected pot outside my door that needs some greenery to greet me mornings. Huge pot, hmmmm a large, sun-glutton hosta.... 2017 was not a good hosta year for me, a neglected garden so I have nothing much to contribute towards the alphabet. Instead I will just enjoy viewing and catching up a bit. Photos are gorgeous, hostas are gorgeous! Jokes are outstanding! Yes, I use Spybot Search and Destroy - it's set to run when the computer is booted - sometimes it catches anywhere from 20-60 items - sometimes it says "congratulations, no infections found" (or something to that effect).

It may only run when you tell it to, but it may still automatically update itself.

I use Spysweeper.

I get it free for home use because my company has an enterprise license

I use AVG and it will come on at 8 am every morning automatically. Perhaps your Spybot is programmed to scan all files at a specific time?

I have used Spybot Search and Destroy for several years. I'm happy with it.

If you are using the free version of AVG it doesn't cantain any spyware. The paid version does.

AVG has a very good freestanding anti-spyware program and it's free. I use Ad-aware primarily. Every few times I run Ad-aware I'll run Spybot S&D. Every 6 months or so I'll run a-squared which is an excellent program but takes a long time to update on dialup.

I don't usually have many problems because I do not use Internet Explorer. I use Opera, Firefox and K-meleon. I also have SpywareBlaster installed and that makes a big difference.

the noise and light only mean that your hard drive is active....when you are on the computer, this can be active for any number of reasons. Be careful with spybot, as it is very thorough and you can remove safe things easily.

Your normal AV program and adaware are plenty of protection, and of course a firewall if you are not behind a router

Hi, Cuz

I've always been a little shy of Spybot. Too complicated! I use Spywareblaster, which runs in the background and you never even know it's there. Takes very little memory. I'm still using W/98 and can't update Adaware any more, but seems like with Spywareblaster, I don't miss it.

Doesn't spyware blaster work to keep spyware off, instead of scanning for it? That's my understanding.
