How do you sharpen your knives?
Comments (23)We have Henckels knives, mostly, and use this sharpener. We like it. I can't say it's the greatest thing out there, since I've never used any other sharpener, but it does sharpen our knives well. It's small and cheap and very easy to use. When you draw the blade through you can feel the difference as the blade smooths out more with each pass. With a bit of practice (on some old, not so hot knives), we learned just how many time to pull each knife through the sharpener. We just use it when the steel no longer seems to do the job. Once we bought this gadget, we no longer send the knives out for sharpening any more - do-it-yourself is just fine....See Morehow do you sharpen your knives?
Comments (46)The initial Question was " how do you sharpen your knives." I think a lot have posted, to give some helpful and tech.info. Even if you want to keep doing the same way, which you might think is wrong, I would copy some of the info for future, just in case you might want to upgrade your knives. ????? - - - - - - - - - - - - - Has anyone seen the Kitchen Knives at Lowe's. They are made by " Kitchen Aid " and look pretty good. I lost my Paring Knife about a month ago, so while at Lowe's I bought one for $9.95. I liked the Design. There was a nice varity of other knives. Has anyone else seen them. ??? They were back near the Kitchen Cabinets. Here is the Paring Knife. It holds a good edge. I just touch it up with the steel. The blade is 3 1/2 inches long. It fits my hand well....See MoreHow do you sharpen your knives?
Comments (19)Cheers RockPine! Great minds think alike. Just one clarification for those of you using a "sharpening" steel - your knives will cut better when you're done using it but it doesn't sharpen the blade, it realigns the cutting edge and makes it straight. It can't reshape a dull blade that's worn down. A dull blade requires a sharpener that can cut away metal and restore the 20-degree angle of each side of the edge. If all you're using is a steel, you're in for an epiphany if you actually sharpen your blades some day. My mother used to tell me "there's nothing more dangerous in a kitchen than a dull blade," and by that she wasn't referring to a dim chef :)...See MoreHow do you store your ladles and large spoons?
Comments (18)Yepper, coolio old crock full of long handled "stuff". We have nothing really matchy, matchy, I just buy what I like when I see it and cram it in the crock beside the range. Ladles, spoons, spatulas, whisks etc., all in the crock. My knife block is right next to it and the drawer below is full of knives also (DW is a meat cutter and we like good knives). Only things I don't really keep in the crock are the tongs, bigger spatulas and specialty utensils. Directly in front of the range is a long drawer in the island with those and the rest of the "stuff". I tend to not like the big handled things so I can fit quite a few in the crock. Besides a couple big SS spoons and ladles (industrial) by far my fav are wooden, seems I break them w/regularity but usually have a stock of them in the pantry....See Morealwayssunshine
