Annie's First Communion and Confirmation (pics)

Annie had her First Communion and Confirmation on Sunday. I wanted to share some pictures because we are just so darn proud!

Here is her in her dress and pins that she got from my Mom.

And here is one of the whole family although I really, truly despise pictures of myself. Eek. Unfortunately Evelyn was feeling shy. It was an evening service and it was WAY past her bedtime.

Hope you enjoyed!

Kswl, I usually end up not taking pictures of people that interest me and regret it. I have strong memories of those un-taken pictures. When we were in Puerto Rico a few years ago there was this young women at the bus stop with very strong classic American Indian features and she wore what looked like colorful rags sewn together. The expression on her face was so detached and distant. During this trip we were in a small village where I came upon a very elderly lady that seemed to be dressed in old fashioned mourning clothes. She was sitting on a bench with a pile of leather bound books bent and reading. The only color was her two mismatched knee high compression hose stockings in bright opaque. Both of those un-taken pictures really told a story and would have been great fun to try an paint. I'm going to try hard not to ignore photo opportunities that inspire me in the future. Sounds like your architecture pictures inspires you. Have you had any framed for your walls?

OT - Cori Ann - Annie's Has The Peony I Mentioned

I wanted to suggest an attractive Mediterranean peony that would cost less than P. cambessedesii (hope I got the spelling right). I've read, and my experience confirms this, that viable peony seed sowed fresh germinates quickly, but if you let the seed sit around for a while, it can wait years before it sprouts. A thought to keep in mind if you buy seed: a good deal of patience may be required (and don't throw away seeds that don't sprout!). I poked around a little on Internet and found 'Mollis' offered for sale in the U.S., so it is available, though I don't know how widely. While I'm busy offering unsolicited advice, let me mention another excellent Mediterranean peony, one I brought up recently in another thread on the forum: P. officinalis 'Rubra Plena'. This is as red and as full as a person could ask for, and an excellent grower. It's common locally. This is different from the double red form of yet another Mediterranean peony, P. tenuifolia. I am wondering how these will do in your garden, as I don't know your conditions. We have a mild climate, but we do get chill hours, and I don't know whether the peonies I've mentioned need that.

The same goes for any of my pictures. If there are any in particular that you like perhaps for printing out,I'd be willing to put hi-res somewhere for you to download. When we were there in 2011 they said that the the previous December there was a massive rainstorm that caused mudslides down the coast in Portabello, and caused Gatun Lake to rise enough that even having the spillways at the Gatun Dam fully open wasn't enough, and the water was threatening to overtop the dam or flood the canal area or something very bad. So for the first time in the history of the canal they had all of the gates of the canal locks open with water just racing through. We were told that the leak pictured here was caused by damage that occurred when they did that.

Invitation to a first communion

The event was yesterday. Only a few invitees attended church and about 30 people attended the after party. The gift opening was almost a non-event but I was watching. Some people went the religious way (like me) and gave the girls necklaces, rosaries. The girls wore them around their necks and who knows where they will be a month from now. Most of the gifts were clothes and other fashion trinkets, with which they seemed more excited. Mom distributed bookmarks w/the girls’ communion picture. A good time was had by all. the only other thing worth mentioning was that at church, the priest invited the kids to ask questions. One girl asked how long he’d been a priest and a pint of a boy asked how much money he made. A few gasps and nervous laughs followed. After mass I asked the priest if that was planned and he said no, still surprised by the question. I was also surprised such a little kid would be interested in $ matters. Sign of the times..... my gifts were prayer card and necklace of their namesake saint, crisp $10 bill and a card, about $20 per girl. It seemed average gift value was $20

Wow, First Communion and Confirmation on the same day! Mine were about a year apart (of course, that was way back in the last Century!).

Annie looks so lovely and her dress is really pretty, too.

Are your husband and the priest next to him related? They look like they could be!

Annie is so beautiful and grown up. Lovely pics of all of you.

I agree with Lindsey, my first thought was the Priest standing next to your husband could be his brother. Maybe it is just the facial hair.

Lindsey, I know in the Anglican Church when you are confirmed that is when you are allowed to have your first communion. I remember my Catholic friends having their first communion in Grade 1 or 2 then being confirmed years later.

Upon saying that I don't know what Faith Annie was confirmed in.
