Doesn't sound safe to me. Poultry should stay cool while defrosting or it can become a breeding ground for all kinds of bacteria. I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable with this method.

Don't do it.....the low heat of the crock pot and the frozen turkey will spend too much time at an unsafe temperature.
Frozen poultry needs to be either defrosted at a cool temperature, so that the thawed meat doesn't get to the danger zone....between 40 and 140 degrees....and stay there for more than 2 hours.
In the crock pot the temperature won't get high enough fast enough to kill the bacteria because the frozen turkey will keep it too cool.
It's a dangerous practice.

I absolutely would not do it - it would be like cooking inside your refrigerator - the center would never thaw and get to a safe temp. Breeding ground for bacteria.
Just my opinion - Thaw your turkey breast as recommended, and use a Reynolds Cooking bag in the oven - follow the directions - now that is easy and safe and delicious with very little mess.

Now, I've cooked a THAWED, skinned turkey breast in my crockpot before, but never frozen! Defrost in your refrigerator, then cook.

Guess I'm the bad girl this time. I've been doing frozen turkey breasts in my crockpot for years and know others that do it as well. Usually put it in at night before going to bed and its done the next morning when I get up. Haven't had any food problems with it, but that doesn't mean anyone else should do it. My crockpot does run a hotter than ones I've had before, so maybe its keeping it at a hot enough temperature.

I also have cooked a defrosted turkey breast in the crockpot but not a frozen. I do know people that have done that but I would NOT.

And when I have put my defrosted turkey breast in the crock, I do add liquid to it.

Thank you all so much! I have been baking turkeys for years and always heed the thawing instructions. When I heard this procedure discussed by several who "swear" by it..I was very hesitant...thus asked you pros! It only makes sense to me to NOT cook it from frozen state. And I won't..but at least I do see others who have, so it is a true story!

Years ago, I used to buy those frozen turkey breasts.

I'd stick it in the crock pot and throw a can of cream of celery soup on it and set it to low. Never had a problem.

But now that I know better, I'd never cook anything that way....... cream of celery soup? What was I thinking??????? hahahaha!!!

There are lots of cooking practises that people used to do....
My MIL always left the stuffed cooked turkey on the counter after a 1:00 dinner until about 7 that night. All stomach discomfort was blamed on a "rich meal".
I rememberw hen someone had a bright idea to put the turkey into a 125 oven before you went to bed and cook it 12 hours...I did it once.....don't think anyone got sick.
And someone here recommended soaking a turkey in warm water for several hours before cooking.
The problems are in these days of enormous butchering and packing facilities...one bad bird can contaminate thousands in the scalding tank....so the possible germs on the bird are multiplied many times over. And some bacteria, while they are killed by cooking, leave behind a toxin that is not deactivated by heat.
Keep it hot or keep it cold!

As LindaC said, there are a LOT of things people used to do.
I could probably write a book on things my mother did, that are considered taboo now.
She never worried about cross contaminatiom, nor kept cutting boards, etc, seperated.
Don't remember anyone ever getting sick from her cooking, either.
But then we raised all our own food. Makes a difference.
Cream of Celery soup? Why not?
There are times when convenience is good, and can be tasty, too.
As for the frozen turkey breast cooked in a crock pot, my crock pot has a 'high' and 'low' setting. The 'high' setting is pretty high, too.
So I would use the 'high' setting, and not be at all concerned, as long as a thermometer showed the internal temperature to be done.
