Well. Tuffy got another one.

Yup.

She bit again.

And, once again, the bittee had it coming.

A girlfriend apparently thinks Digger needs a boyfriend.

She keeps hooking Digger up with these guys.

Then they want to come around.

Some are good boys and I like them.

Others?

Well, let's just say I trust my dog's instinct.

This kid? Well, he slouched.

And he wouldn't look me in the eye.

He wouldn't look Digger in the eye either but stared in a southerly direction if you get my drift.

I said 'Hello. My name is Lori. I'm Digger's Mom' and he said 'Yeah. I know'.

What the hell is a mother suppose to say to THAT?

Gabby was outside with her pups, in the barn.

Tuffy was in the bedroom with Custer. Custer is on graveyards and is asleep.

The day was not warm and I knew they'd want to watch tv in the family room so I started a fire.

And I checked the fire.

Frequently.

Like every five minutes.

He started out slouched on one side of the couch and Digger in a recliner. Each trip he was a little bit close, on the couch, towards Digger's chair.

I, between throwing logs on a fire that was hot enough to turn the stovepipe red, was just down the hall on the computer. I went upstairs one time. I heard Tuffy scratching at the bedroom door. I went and let her out of the bedroom and outside.

The talk, in the family room, turned to roping.

So, Digger comes to the computer room and says they are going out in the barn to rope the dummy.

There is no stove in the barn.

BUT there is a wood pile AND heifers to check!

So I busied myself every ten minutes or so, checking heifers, playing with puppies, bringing in wood.

I did not notice Tuffy's reaction at this point, but Gabby was being aggressive but is always this way when she has pups. So I brought her into the house.

Tuffy remained outside.

Keeping vigil on the ropers.

I did not see what happened.

Digger told me about it later.

They were roping the dummy.

"Who is the best roper?" I asked.

"Well," she said, modestly. "I am"

It was also muddy in the driveway and the visitor started teasing Digger about 'picking her up and dropping her in the mud' to which Digger would reply 'oh no you won't and he said 'we'll see about that' and grabbed Digger.

At this point, Tuffy started barking and Digger told this kid the dog would protect her.

"What did he say?" I asked later?

"He just laughed" she said, in a disgusted way.

Then, according to Digger, his eyes got wide and said "What's your dog doing?"

Tuffy had him by the top of his boot, all hackled and growling viciously.

Digger said "I think you better let me go" and he did.

But Tuffy didn't.

Digger had to order her back from the kid.

LOL

Then they came back into the house.

Gabby was under my computer desk with me.

When Digger told me about Tuffy I made her get under the computer desk too. Then I made the two dogs quit fighting.

When it was time to go they walked past me.

Digger said he friend was leaving.

I said 'good bye' and he said 'yeah' and Gabby tried to come out from under my feet to bite him and Tuffy was quivering with indignation (at me, I'm sure) that she was stuck back at the wall.

Digger said she wasn't too impressed with him.

I said 'neither are the dogs'.

About 11:30 that night my phone rang. Being in bed I didn't get to it before it went to voicemail. Caller ID said it was this boy's parent's house but no message so I called them back, immediately. It went to voice mail and I left a very nice message that I was sorry I'd missed their call and if there was a problem to call me back.

We haven't heard a word.

From any of them.

Good.

Lori
