plant broccoli before a freeze, or no?
Comments (7)I don't think high twenties will hurt them if they're established in the ground by the time the weather hits. Broccoli is pretty hardy. A couple of years ago, I put some out early and we got a cold snap into the teens. I thought all the seedlings were toast and bought replacements, but most of them recovered. I had a lot of broccoli that year....See MoreRECIPE: Roasted Broccoli
Comments (4)This recipe sounds delicious. I must try it. My daughter just told me that she has taken to broiling broccoli. Tosses Broccoli, almonds and garlic powder in a generous amount of olive oil, then broils it until the edges brown slightly which gives them a crispy feel. I haven't tried it yet, but she loves it. Comments (5)Hi, Lindac! I made my own butterscotch, not my own butterscotch chips. Butterscotch from scratch: 4 T butter—melt and simmer in a pan Add: 1 C semi-packed brown sugar Add: dash or two of salt Stir brown sugar and salt in the pan with the simmering butter until melted. This will take a bit of time and look grainy, then it will smooth out. Add –a half cup at a time—a total of 1 1/2 cups heavy cream, stirring after each addition. It will seize, then return to melty. It will look “oily” but keep stirring until it boils. Boil for a minute or two, cool a little, then pour it over the baked crust. HOWEVER, if you want to make your own **cinnamon** chips--which would go well with Harvest Pumpkin Scones (recipe found on the King Arthur flour website, along with cinnamon chips you can order from there), here are a couple of links, below. I have not made these, so cannot really rate 'em. Comments (9)Yes, that's the amount of butter used in these "dump cake" recipes. It creates a crusty topping. Your recipe is a hybrid. Dump cakes were popular in the 70's and come in a lot of variations. I don't think it will freeze well. Even leftovers the next day aren't all that great with dump cakes. The one I remember that showed up at every potluck: Pour 1 can cherry pie filling (or any other flavor) into 8x8" square pan and sprinkle one Jiffy white or yellow cake mix DRY over the filling. Pour 1/3 c. melted butter over mixture. Bake at 350°F for 20-minutes, then reduce heat to 325°F for 20-minutes longer. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream. -Grainlady...See Moreteresa_nc7
