Deanna, Moving can be a nightmare I'm sure, but then there's that sense of a new adventure to compensate. And for us gardeners, the added anticipation of growing new plants. In your case going up nearly two zones will be exciting. I have overwintered two varieties of rosemary here in 6B. One is "Arp" and the other is "Barbeque". The latter tends to grow straight and rather stiff stems, good for rosemary skewers. I think with a little protected microclimate you will have success. I don't know if you read any of my posts, but I tend to push the limits a bit here on hardiness, and I'm not so popular here with the "traditional" New England gardeners. Nevertheless, I plant what I like and some people here have said nice things. But I grow cacti, many succulents, yuccas, camellias, figs, clerodendron, southern magnolia and jasmine, to name a few. Sure I have the rhododendron, dogwoods, cherries, azaleas, iris, penstemon, daylilies, etc. but I do also like to "mix it up" a bit! So..........best of luck with the move and all that will be new to you. It may be a task to renovate that garden but you can put your signature on it and grow some things that would have been impossible in NH.

I don't think you need to kill the grass (subjectiing yourself, your yard, your family and various animals to the poisons in grass killer) nor haul tons of gravel (ouch). I've had a great deal of luck just putting down plastic weed barrier, stapling it in place with landscaper staples ($10 a box at the Orange Home Store) and covering with a very thick layer of Cedar mulch (3-4 inches). The grass will die for lack of sunlight, and it won't come back. I used this method under (1 gal) bushes that I planted around the outside of a chain link fence for a hedge effect. I even had a soaker hose over the plastic barrier, so that the bushes would get plenty of water. Still, the grass died and never came back.

Update.... They are at our house today installing the decorative door panels on the ends of the peninsulas (& patching the hole behind the PR mirror they made taking the old medicine cabinet out). Another step toward the end! My DH (at home today) says they look great. [These are 2 of the panels that I had originally eliminated due to budget but am now getting for free...the granite folks irreparably damaged one of my peninsula cabs and when the replacement came it had two "blobs" of glaze on the end (the only issues we've had w/finish, btw. Our KD said that rather than reorder the cabinet they would purchase & install the end panels on both peninsulas so they could move the Project forward! We may eventually put them on the back of the peninsula as well, but not now.] Still a few "minor" things like the final plumbing inspection and getting our granite properly caulked (not caulking b/w counter & wall on one side!) [Sheesh...I would definitely not recommend these guys....our counters are still so uneven at the seam on the sink wall that a glass rocks on it!] Here is a link that might be useful: Passed Final Elec Insp...Mocketts & All!

Funk if you have the time and patience it would definitely be worth it. After you prep each piece they are about 1/4-3/8in thick. It took about 300 pieces to make a 30x60in table top. Depending on where you live it's probably going to be heart pine, cedar, or fur all of which are beautiful. It's more time consuming to save it since you can't just go at a wall with a sledge but it is really a shame so much of it just gets thrown out. Maybe you can work something out where you can have the wood for free if you remove it from a home.

I'm sure hoping it's a girl! If not it's ok...boys are fun. BUT it'll be born just before Christmas...just think of all the pink I can shop for! Really I'm just hoping for healthy and happy...a girl would be nice though! LOL...........

Thank you everyone! We are really excited..this will be the last one here for a long time so hoping I get my grandaughter this time around. My youngest son is in no way ready to have kids! LOL....he still live at home! This will be it for us until he has some. A boy will fit in quite nicely in this family so it's ok too. But you all know I am wishing for that girl so keep thinking PINK for me! She goes to the doctor this afternoon and we will have a due date then. Thanks again!
