Tracey, I don't have one just like that, but I have a Chemex, I'll attach a link. It makes really good coffee, you just put a filter in the top, pour the water over the ground coffee and let it drip into the bottom, much like your coffee maker.

Elery has pretty much appropriated it for his decaf, LOL, I make a big pot of regular for me!

I actually do remember the dripolator - my mother had one! Then my parents got divorced and I think my mother switched to instant. She wasn't a coffee lover and with two kids who didn't drink it, it wasn't worth it to her to bother making coffee.

Like Annie's husband, we prefer Chemex-style drip. I don't use the Chemex glass coffeepot any longer. I prefer to use a smaller regular glass pot (5 cups and under when we're drinking it right away) or a Japanese vacuum thermos for 6+ cups (holds it for around 7 hours).

I have a white porcelain cone but do use the Chemex filters. They make a definite difference in the quality of the coffee. The paper filters (Melitta is the most common brand) make vastly inferior drip coffee.

Especially if you like strong coffee - we use either French or Italian roast in a super-fine grind (one notch above Turkish powdered) - the Chemex filters are great. They never break apart (they're woven and then folded for packaging) the way the paper ones do.

I never had one but remember the pots. One caution for you: Corning had some big problems with their coffee pots. As I recall the handles would break and with the hot water there were a number of scalded people. As I recall the metal band would give out on them. They had a recall on a number of them, but I have no idea if this style was affected. You could contact them or do a little research if you're concerned. Interesting pot though. Good luck with it.

I'm not sure if it was this particular style. I know the larger electric percolators were recalled, but the smaller ones weren't. I think it was only the ones over 6 cups. It was just certain years that were recalled too, the metal band wasn't reinforced well on certain years. I looked it up when I purchased a 9 cup electric percolator a couple of years ago. Was excited til I learned it was probably recalled.

Thanks for the info about the chemex. I've never seen one in person. I think this one would do better with some type of filter. There was some sediment at the bottom of the pot when it was finished. Cynic, as I was researching this coffee maker, I came accross the information about the recall. I think this one is okay. It does explain why I can never find one of their old stovetop percolators anywhere! Ngraham, there was nothing on the corning ware site about the recall, I found it on a site about vintage corning ware.
