Look what I just got in my email! A "fake" aioli from Cooking Light, very healthy, low fat, low calorie. What does it taste like? Darned if I know, but I'm one of those odd people who actually LIKE tofu..... Lemon Soy Aioli Here, we've puréed tofu for a low-fat, nutritious take on the traditional garlic mayonnaise. Use the leftovers as a sandwich spread. Ingredients 2 cups water 2 garlic cloves, peeled 8 ounces soft tofu, drained 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil 3/4 teaspoon sea salt Preparation Bring 2 cups water to a boil in a small saucepan. Add garlic, and cook 10 minutes. Drain. Place tofu on several layers of paper towels; cover with additional paper towels. Let stand 10 minutes. Combine garlic, tofu, and remaining ingredients in a blender or food processor; process until smooth. Serve with fresh vegetables. Italian Saba. Just picked up a bottle being on sale. I've been using a burnt batch of maple syrup and almost out of it. (actually really good if i want a caramel-ish dolup) in a sauce or stew... "Saba -- also known as sapa, vin cotto or mosco cotto -- is an Italian syrup made from cooking down grape must. It looks just like balsamic, and tastes a whole lot like it too, but it's not nearly as expensive because it isn't aged. Chefs have begun incorporating saba into their menus over the past couple of years, and it's time home cooks did the same." I'll test it tonight.

Eld, I don't think exercise helps in my weight loss either. Well, not how most people think it does. I don't think a 5 mile walk burns enough calories to create a big enough deficit on its own to help me lose pounds. But it does help me in other ways. For example, exercise KILLs my appetite for several hours. Also, it makes me more mindful about what i do eat. I tend to think "Now you JUST spent an hour and a half walking around in a circle like a madwoman, are you really gonna undo that in 30 seconds by eating this? YOU'RE NOT EVEN HUNGRY!!! SIT!!!!" When i used to go to a doctor who specializes in weight loss, he told me that for women especially, exercise doesn't help all that much in weight loss, but that it is imperative for overall health. The RN on staff at my employer recently told me that i need to get up and MOVE a lot more than i did. Like you, I look and feel better when i exercise. I also sleep better, which is saying something, because i usually am a good sleeper anyway. As for WW, my journey, as its sometimes called, was miserable, and counterproductive. I gained 4 pounds, was hungry and cranky all the time, and grew more and more disheartened and yes, angry, at seeing the weight fall off almost everyone else. It made it worse when they would say crap like, "Oh, I can't even EAT all the points I am allowed in a day!" Meanwhile, I was out of points by lunch. That being said, that was several years ago, and i do notice that those who lost weight on WW have kept it off all this time, so I am glad it works for some. Its just not for me. My diet is fairly simple, given to me by the aforementioned doctor. Unlimited portions of meat, cheese, eggs, and non starchy veggies. I am allowed one serving of fruit if i wish, but since cherries are out of season, I am not tempted by any fruit enough to have the sugar. Keep carbs under 50 a day. Any snacks should be protein only. Right now, I am trying to limit carbs even more than that. I haven't checked my weight since i started, because i know it takes a little time to show on the scale, and i don't wish to be discouraged. I thank all of you for your encouragement!!! My weakness is cheese. I can only eat one kind but I can get carried away. So I only do it once or twice a week and I don't use yogurt or cream cheese or any other kind of dairy product. Any of those are a slide to cheese everyday. I think about it just about every time I have pasta or a sandwich etcetera. I pause as suggested by whatsayyou and ask myself if the flavour is worth the cals/pounds and the answer is no. As long as I only do it two times a week I don't gain weight from it. Today was a cheese and yogurt day so I won't be able to have any more cheese until Sunday. It is often suggested that we let someone else know what we are doing nutritionally or diet wise or whatever as that helps people stay on track. It doesn't work for me. If someone is looking over my shoulder I run for the hills. Maybe it's the loner thing? Maybe that's why weight watchers works for some people and does not work for others.
