Did a little carving on the end of my finger....ouch..!!!

I was cutting up some of yesterday's ham...We cooked two bone in hams yesterday thinking one would not be enough...LOL..Had a whole one and a lot of the other one left over..

I sliced the end/side of my pointer on my left hand....not a stitch needer but it sure hurt and took about a half hour to stop bleeding without the bandaid.

I have some of that stick to itself gauze tape I wrapped around it kind of tight to stop it..Doing fine now...a little throbing still...But I'm sure it will be fine...

Kind of hard to type...with fat bandage on finger...hehe

Oh you poor dear. I hope it feels better soon. Here's something else for you to use before you apply the bandage Glenda sent you.

sarschlos: I remember your successful thread about your buffet and even noted down the steps, but you are right that I did not realize the importance of doing the buffing with the RAF--not beforehand. This has definitely been a learning experience which I intended it to be when I purchased these tables. I wanted to try on something else before starting on the DR chairs/table, though I've now come to realize this is a much more complicated project than I anticipate to DR set to be. I do think that there was no way I could escape needing to strip and refinish these tables--as there were different problems with each one. Seems the other table has fisheye from prior Pledge contamination and bobsmyuncle over on the woodworking forum recommends stripping that as well. Both looked to have a lot of lacquer/shellac that was probably incorrectly applied sometime in the past which led to these problems--and would also not allow the RAF to penetrate much, though I do notice improved results using the Murphy's Oil soap/RAF on the table legs (left table is the one that I used the RAF, right is not done yet): Even before refinishing, the stripped table looks so much better than either of the two tables before: Now I just need to figure out best way to refinish. Bobsmyuncle recommends first putting a couple of light coats of shellac to seal in the silicone (Pledge) contamination and the finish it. I'm wondering what type of stain/finish to use or even I need one at all as there still looks to be a lot of color in the wood and I don't want to darken the inlay. If anyone can recommend some specific brands to use, that'd be much appreciated.

listen up mr bean ... you planted a lot of dormant stuff.. late in fall ... your only option on everything.. is to WAIT AND SEE ... and it drives US all nuts ... i surely dont mind speculating on it all .. but just to be sure you understand... there will be no clear answers until spring .... so if it helps to talk about it all.. lets go for it ... but on some level for me.. i tend to plant and forget.. and worry about it in spring ... or cuss about it.. lol .. now lets see those pix ... ken Here is a link that might be useful: link

There are three types of daylilies--evergreen, semi-evergreen, and dormant. The evergreen and semi-evergreen ones will show some foliage all winter long. The foliage on the dormant ones like El Desperado will die totally back. The dormants might be a little slower to show growth in the spring but your El Desperado should be fine. Nancy

Ditto with Dave - this is a first I've heard that "forks" killed a tree. Maybe several dozen that severed ALL the roots? Oh well, bummer. I'd give it a chance to recover if the branches are still green. Recovery takes time, so be patient (6 months - 1 yr). Cori Ann, you can grow ANY Grapefruit in Livermore. you have the warm nights in mid summer that will sweeten the fruit up. And that is the key... where south Texas has those warm nights early on that sweeten the fruit by February March, our cooler spring delays the ripeness until late June/July or even August. Having said that, I just had an Oroblanco for breakfast yesterday morning.. and a Redblush this morning. the OroB has sweetened up and NICE (first decent crop - took 3 years). The OroB doesn't get ripe until late February / March in Danville. The Redblush I had to harvest because there were too many on the branch (looking like a grapevine) pulling it to the ground. The Redblush in years past has not colored up until July so I am waiting to see if this years' crop is the same. An alternate to the Oroblanco is Melogold... I can report back on those over the next week. Costco had dozens of Oroblancos last month... I might check their Concord Garden Center later today and report if I see some. BTW: I scored with a Rio Red on C35 earlier this week in Danville !!!! : - )

Hi pattico,

I'm sorry to hear of your attempt at finger-carving.

Plus pleased at all of the help that you've received on the KT.

Here's another useful(?) suggestion - try to plan messages on the keyboard without using r,t,f,g,v and b.

Rather - enlist a fast typist to sit on the chair, while you stand beside and dictate (you can speak about 80 w p m, can't you? - it's my understanding that most females can achieve that speed ... and more).

I hope that your finger heals quickly and well, and that the scarring and consequent lack of feeling doesn't interfere with your ordinary operations of living too much.

Remember what we tell our kids - use knives with care?

A touch of second-childhood at work here, perhaps?

I hope that your gathering was, apart from this matter, a thoroughly happy occasion.

My sister slashes her finger routinely... *sigh* The last one just took a bandage, but the one before that required EIGHT stitches. (I think it was 8...)

I did that to the same finger, when cutting up bread for stuffing. I sliced a piece right off and had to throw the bread out because it landed in the bread pile. I had to go to emergency, because it wouldn't stop bleeding. They couldn't stitch it, because the piece was completely gone, so they wrapped it tightly.

I hope it heals quickly. Fingertip cuts HURT!!

Sending healing thoughts, Patti. I am such a klutz, I frequently have owies (sp?), and like Heather said, I then commence to bumping and re-injuring it, get salt in it, etc. I don't like bandaids on my fingers, either.

Join the club! I was stupid and used a knife to cut a bag of green beans open farther and got the side of my thumb by the nail, on Thurs. It ended up being a wasted effort, as the beans were freezer burnt. Mine didn't want to stop bleeding, either. Then, DH figures he's going to be smart and use the kitchen shears to cut something since I had cut myself with a knife. He wasn't so smart either! He cut his palm with the shears!!!
