Yes I read the trilogy, it was okay, there is a story to it. A lot of the sexual content was unnecessary, I mean how many ways to describe and talk about it. I skipped through a bunch of that and followed the story line. I got it free, not sure I would have paid for it. All in all it was worth reading. It could have been fit in one book though and not missed any of the story.

I only read one book. It was in German. Yes, way to much of the same ole, same ole....

I read the first book, which was loaned to me by a friend. I found the story to be very predictable. I thought it was worth reading too,
but I don't know if I would go out of my way to read the others.

I thought the third book was the best. I too, got very tired of reading about the sexual adventures..

I bought all 3 books because of all the hype. I read about 1/2 the first one 6 months ago and got bored and haven't picked it back up. I loaned #2 and #3 to someone and haven't worried about getting them back.

Like somebody else said, same ole same ole. Very predictable. And very graphic.

I got the entire trilogy. Read the first one. Thought it was "okay", but halfway through the second one I realized that I had so many other books on my TBR list that seemed much more interesting. I may get around to finishing the books, but won't feel too bad if I don't. I'm pretty sure I won't live long enough to read everything I already have, LOL.

I agree that 3 was the best.

I'd just read it for yourself and find out especially since it's free from the library. I have a friend that read it and she just couldn't go on and on enough about how great it was. I suppose she was living an exciting life through that book? HA! I don't know but you would have thought it was better than the invention of sliced bread according to her. I never read it, it didn't sound like my cup of tea and if I wanted to read about sex adventures I'd just pick up that girly magazine....HEEHEE! ;)

I saw it on a shelf at our local library and picked it up. I opened a random (or should I say, randy?) page and read a few sentences.

What I read was so over-the-top that I began to giggle, rather loudly, and this was the library (shhh!) so I put it back.

Looks like something I might want to read someday. ;-)

I bought all three. I only read the second two because I had paid money for them. IMO, the writing style seems to be that of a horny high school girl who has never had sex before. The story line is Harlequin Romance with a whole lot of over the top sex thrown in.

I've been told not to waste my time....I have tons of books on my shelves that are worth reading.......

I've nothing against erotica, but I found the writing repetitious and dull.
Look it up on Amazon and read some of the reviews there - some are far better written than the book.

I was talking with a stodgy cousin last week and was surprised that she read all 3 books. I told her how so many here said it was poorly written and she said the same thing other friends have said. It was well written but some folks are shocked by it and would rather say it is poorly written. Even one of my pastors read it.

No, I haven't read it; just reading these reviews tells me it is not worth it.

I read all three books, and didn't find them as bad as other people find them.

I didn't feel the story was about "a young woman who makes a deal with a wealthy man to give him sex - any and all ways he wants it - in exchange for material goods" - I thought it was more she was falling in love with him, fascinated by him/he wanted to give her material goods as part of his deal, which I felt she wasn't comfortable with (at first - ha)/we know what he wanted from her, but eventually came around and fell in love with her in the, er, traditional sense of the word.

I actually enjoyed reading the books, and thought Christian Grey was... different. ha. Anatasia bugged me more. It was a little out there at times, though.

I was so bored I never even got through the first book. It is like reading a graphic Harlequin Romance. When I read a book I want to be grabbed by a great storyline. From what I can tell (and I only read about half the book) the storyline can be summed up in a couple of lines as littlebug5 said above:

And I also agree that it seems as if it was written by a high school girl(s) describing her perfect man.

That being said, many of my coworkers LOVED it and talked about it for weeks.

I was caught up in the hoopla last year when this book was popular. I downloaded all 3 volumes to my e-reader and started in. I read the first 100 pages and put it aside for about 6 weeks and read several other books before I returned to this. There is a lot of sex ... almost every page. There is a lot of what many people would consider deviant behaviour. If you can get past that, the first book wasn't too bad. The second book was better and the third slightly better still. I think it's more because we know the characters somewhat better by the third book and their actions and re-actions don't shock quite as much. Both my daughter-in-laws borrowed the books and were quite taken with them, Several of the women I work with read the book and talked about it for weeks. It was good but I didn't think that good. I much prefer the books by James Paterson. Go ahead and read it if you can get it for free or borrow it.

I'd like to read them to see what all the excitement is about. But I'm cheap so I'll wait till I can get it for free. A couple of years ago I bought "The Help" for a quarter at a garage sale. Definitely worth the price.

That's what a friend told me....if I liked the Harlequin stuff (totally do not)....that these books were a hotter version. I am glad to see that women are finally talking about their own....you know....as men have joked about for years. Of COURSE they read Penthouse, Hustler, and Playboy for the articles! lololol

I read #1, forced myself to the finish #2, & opted to just ask my friend how it all turned out in #3.

I've never read a Harlequin book so maybe this is customary.... but the part I find disconcerting about the 50's books is this: If Christian Grey were of mediocre looks, poor to average income, we would label him as a pervert & a stalker, a man with huge control issues (not just in the sexual realm), misogynistic, very jealous, & deeply scarred emotionally. The story line jumped the shark for me when he got away with really invading her privacy & stalking behaviors. We would tell our dtrs, grand-dtrs, sisters, nieces to RUN from a man like this. But .... NO.... this man is drop dead gorgeous & has a BAZILLION $$$$$'s. Therefore, anything can be overlooked. I know the story line is a flight of fancy, but I'm not sure that culturally, we don't also buy into this type of excusing the behavior because of looks/money.

How could an educated, smart woman, a virgin, who was so very unaware of her own physical beauty, seemingly with near zero sex drive prior to meeting/doing Christian zip right to nymphomania & buy into dangerous sex games with basically a stranger ... all in the blink of an eye? The implausibility of the story line was a turn off to me... even aside from the multi-orgasmic repetitiousness of ALLLLLL that sex......

No, I don't get the fascination with the "50's"...

So.....I finished book 1 and couldn't wait to get to 2 and 3. ordered them from the library but I am so impatient I went out and bought them. (Still waiting for the library copies to arrive). half way done with #3 and I will then re-read them. I know I missed a few parts.

As for me I LOVE IT...LOL....actually has given me a few ideas...I am so bad!!!!
