removing trees from root-pruning pots-do you have to cut the pot?
Comments (13)hairmetal - do you mind sharing the name of the nursery in Purcellville? BTW - went to Susanna Farms for the first time in donkey's years. OMG they are expensive. But being in MoCo like that, I can't really blame them. Charge what the market will bare. Oddly they had some wierd bargains that almost felt like they'd forgotten to add a 0 to a price. Unfortunately they were too big to fit in my car, like a nice Juniperus rigida pendula, that I think was only $79. It was huge. I really wanted to get something but just couldn't hold my nose tightly enough. I can understand pricing something like a showy Japanese maple high. But they had some little Trochodendrons that were no more than 20" high. Sure they are slow growing when small...but $120? Who's going to buy that? At that size they are about the most anonymous, bland, broad leaved evergreens imaginable. They look like scrounged up bunches of English Ivy. I maybe could have gone up to $65 out of the kindness of my heart, but, $120? Nope. But if they get rich suckers from Potomac to pay those prices, good for them. They do have a nice selection of what I'd call the standard upscale plants...which is getting harder and harder to find. For example also took a quick walk 'round Merrifield's Merrifield location (haha), was disappointed with their selection of similar stuff. If it's showy and marketable, like the Encore Azaleas, they make room for it. Otherwise, overall a more utilitarian, albeit slightly less expensive, selection. And still heavily pushing Leyland Cypresses which is a questionable business practice IMHO. Comments (8)Thanks everyone for all the good tips. we didn't have wd40 in the house so my husband suggested rubbing alcohol which got more of the stuff off (enough so I could wear one of the pairs...first dusted my feet with talc powder though, just in case :). I've been wearing the sandals all day. and yes, these sandals are from Marshall's (why do they put those big old orange size stickers on the insoles? sheesh...but they do have good deals!...See MoreWhat labels do you use for frozen dishes?
Comments (27)I use painter's masking tape -- either the blue stuff or the new Frog (green) tape. It sticks on plastic containers and plastic freezer bags and comes off easily. I, too, write the label info with a Sharpie, usually while the tape is still on the roll. I try to tear off relatively nice edges, but it doesn't bother me if I get a weird edge. Of course, if the item is already frozen and chilly, I don't think anything would work. And tape doesn't work that well if you're trying to stick it on a glass casserole. I never tried freezing things in a metal pan, so I can't comment on that. Here is a link that might be useful: Painter's Masking Tape...See MoreHow do you remove mosquitoes from pool area?
Comments (22)David, yes, I am very pleased with how it works! We were out of the chemical at the beginning of the season and I was getting eaten up. My husband went to a company that sells the chemical and bought it for $92 and put it in himself. It took about 4 or 5 days until I noticed a reduction in mosquitoes. I was outside in or near the pool most of today and didn't get bitten once. I'm trying to locate the business card to give you a name. I can't remember since I didn't arrange it, someone else did.I believe the value listed for taxes (we won a pool, kitchen and the mosquito system)was about $2000. The newer system chandlers is talking about sounds good. Our tank sits next to the pool equipment and when it mixes it's louder than the pump. Not a big deal though. I'll try to locate the name of the company although I think it was a small one just here in Houston....See Morelolauren
