Re-use old garbage disposal?
Comments (15)Live, Great advice. That may be what he tells people..the warranty thing. And you're right, unless you're a DIY-er, the labor alone to replace the unit down the road would almost pay for an Evolution. On a side note: I just replaced my disposer with an Evolution and it IS awesome! Very quiet...so quiet it kind of disturbs my DH. And my co-worker saw a show on This Old House or one of those type shows where they went to the testing facility for this unit. He said they would put buckets full of chicken bones down it. Blurb from thisholdhouse.com Gnawing them bones May 25, 2007 InsinkeratorÂs new Evolution garbage disposer accepts all kinds of castaway food waste into its gaping maw, yet uses noise-reducing technology to dampen sound by 60 percent. Its 40-ounce chamber grinds food in 3 stages, quietly pulverizing coffee grounds, corn cobs and the notoriously difficult celery stalk. The $299 Insinkerator was one of the best kitchen products we saw at the International Builders' Show. I'll be wishing I had one this holiday weekend, because any serious griller has long since learned that rib bones are best gnawed over the sink anyway. Or, as my dad calls it, "counter eatin'." Click on the link below to watch a youtube video below of a commercial showing how well it works. And here's another commercial showing how quiet they are: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvB4KI1pF4M Can you tell I love my Evolution??? -Kompy Here is a link that might be useful: Insinkerator Evolution...See MoreNew Granite Installed; Sink is too small. Comments (21)Davidro-lol, so true! I actually thought this morning when I saw the dirty dishes that my kids and DH had so kindly stacked in the sink for me, "And why exactly did I want a larger one?" Jilljohn-But at least you have the other half of the sink to use! But it's okay...I'm slowly getting used to it. A 9" sink? I'm trying to picture that! I don't really think that is something that buyers notice when touring homes, so hopefully you won't have to replace it. I think we're going to keep it. I do now have a garbage disposal where I did not before, so I'm pretty pleased with that. :)...See MoreGarbage disposal leaking- questions re: new GD and air switch
Comments (18)We had the Badger and just replaced it with another Badger today. I wanted the same one since it fit and the dishwasher drains into it and it would hook back up the same. We didn't even have to change the hook up in the sink. Mine has the switch in the wall behind the sink. I don't see why your switch couldn't move to there. The air gap is for your dishwasher, so dirty water won't back up and drain into your clean in case of a plumbing back up. The bigger ones are really about the same size, so I don't see why you couldn't put a different one in. Oh, and yes, mine rusted out and was leaking from the bottom....See MoreAny garbage disposal 4 to 5" from sink to discharge drain? HELP
Comments (9)If the architecture allows, one can also put the trap in the normal location (as in the drawing above) and tie the weir portion of the trap horizontally to a vertical pipe with a tee. At the top of the vertical pipe (in the cabinet) would be placed a vacuum break. At the bottom of the pipe in a basement near its ceiling, an elbow would be used to direct the drainage to whatever confluence of piping was used to combine other drainage to exit the house. I use this scheme with a prep sink in a peninsula well away from where the waste water has to be transported. I recommend obtaining a Forstner bit of the correct size to fit the vertical pipe to avoid cabinet mutilation, along with a bit extension to get to the flooring under the cabinet from inside the cabinet. The trick is to select a vertical pipe location free of joist intersection. Between disposal rotation and trap rotation, most locations in the cabinet can be accessible....See MoreTmnca
