N-Acetyl-Carnosine for treating dog cataracts

My little terrier, Homer, was diagnosed with Lyme disease recently, about the same time he became totally blind. The vet diagnosed him with cataracts. He and I are both very saddened by this. His personality has changed drastically due to his limitations. He is 10 years old but has a life expectancy of up to 17, and it is hard to think of him spending so many years blind.

We are barely managing to keep our house due to lay-offs and inability to find jobs that come even close to paying what we used to make, so cataract surgery at $3200 is not an option. I found some alternative therapies on the internet--I know none are vet approved, but I am wondering if anyone has first hand experience with any of them, particularly N-Acetyl-Carnosine. That's expensive too but we would try to find a way to give it a shot if anyone has tried it and felt it had positive results.

He's such a sweet little dog, and this is so hard.

Homer and I give you thanks in advance,

Kate
