Frozen ham question

Hi all! Happy holidays! I ordered a 7.5 pound spiral Kansas city smoked ham through QVC. Yeah! It arrived today....frozen solid! I want to eat it tomorrow. The instructions say thaw 48-60 hours in the fridge. Well, I don't have that much time. It is fully cooked. Can I leave it out all day/night? Or would you heat slowly (at like 135-140?) for a couple of hours in the oven?

Duane I would leave it out at least until tonight. I can't imagine anything bad happening in that period of time to a fully cooked frozen ham. Put it back in the fridge overnight.

I would not warm it slowly to thaw.

I would leave it out all day....put in the refrig over night and put it into a 200 oven for half an hour....shut it off...let it sit for 30 minutes in the oven and then poke an instant read deep into the center near the bone....and see if it needs more time.
BUT cover it while it's in the oven!

Thanks Linda and Barnmom! : ) Well it didn't fit in my slow cooker so I just put it in the oven in a roasting pan with some onions and a little water and put foil over the top. I'm going to add some seasoned sweet potatoes. Nothing fancy but it's a good ham (already sampled it lol) so I think it will be ok. It's not spiral cut. I didn't know those dry out faster so I just lucked out. The brand I wanted didn't have any spiral cut ones. Yes I kinda needed my oven for other things but I think it will work out. Can I use a smoked ham in place of canned ham?

Hello, just wanted to tell you that I made this recipe (with your help - thank you!!) I cut down the celery to 4 stalks, used an 8 oz jar of relish, left out the hot sauce, used smoked ham cut up fine, added a bit of mayo ....AND IT WAS GREAT! Thank you for all your help! As I noted, I don't cook much and I made these for a party for 40 people. The wraps are all gone, they went quickly, were easy to make and looked nice on the plate. They one thing I was add to the recipe was to make sure you roll the wraps tightly, and "seal" the end with a bit of cream cheese to make sure the wrap stays closed. I cut the wraps about an hour before the party, put them on a platter with sprigs of parsley as garnish, then back in the fridge. T'was easy, good & nice addition to lots of cheese & veggie platters. Annie said it well. Most any store-bought ham has water added anyway so there's lots of liquid in there. Even those marked "natural juices" are still water-injected. Beer is another good liquid for braising if you so choose to add, but if you're heating a ham rather than roasting it, you shouldn't have any problem. If it seems to be losing all the liquid in there, add a little moisture to steam and seal it up better.

cynic - The hams I cook are not pre-sliced. I usually have one of these in the refrigerator (linked below0 - it's great when the kids decide to come over at the last minute and leftovers are good for sandwiches or to serve with eggs for breakfast. When I have time I buy uncured hams at Trader Joe's - DH likes them better. His present this Christmas is a real Smithfield Ham. We haven't had one of those in years. Thanks folks! I knew you would come through. I googled it and got a few answers too. One said leave it out, one said never leave it out and everybody agreed it would be okay to thaw in cold water replacing the water every 30 minutes. I think I will leave it out until tonight, put it back in the fridge overnight and then if needed the cold water thaw. Thanks everyone!

Duane unless the ham is in an air tight plastic wrapping I would not do a clod water thaw.......you''l be fine with leaving it out all day and then back in the fridge later tonight.

Use low heat in the oven if you still think it needs thawing tomorrow.....and like Linda says cover it well. Spirals dry out in a flash!
