Wonder cup: I've worked up a sweat!

I love the concept of this tool and have used it for the past several years but frequently have a struggle to push the center down to the proper measurement.

Does anyone have any tips short of storing it in two pieces? I've consider spraying it with WD-40, but it probably doesn't come in the right flavor!

This morning I'm making bread for communion at church and need to measure the honey, so maybe I just need to pray more!

Since it's not heated I knew eventually the cold would get them, but the eggs and lava would be back next year. And then the frogs & toads showed up to the feast. With a week to 10 days, the bugs were unnoticeable. I should note that I use no pesticides or insecticides. I am not strictly organic, but I know enough to know that what your AG said first -- that they're gaining resistance -- will only mean eventual immunity. I just disagree with the AG's concept of defeat. And, the toads are still around. They like being underground of all places (probably all the manure!), but they peek out from time to time when I am in there. I also find them hiding under the strawberry leaves :) And no bugs. Remember, everything has a natural predator. You just need to determine what it is.

Thanks again. Mom and dad were married just short of 55 years and had one of those really great marriages. She is missing him terribly and it's heartbreaking to see but she is slowly coming back to her old self. Shortly after dad passed away mom found out she has macular degeneration which initially scared her to no end. But she is a good candidate for some new treatment which seems to be working (stopping the progression). Then about 6 weeks later her very good friend also passed away (if anyone recalls my post about mothers and store coupons, that's the friend). It has been a few very tough months. Again, thanks everyone (and Shauna - no, I don't think you've flipped out at all, I get it). I really like the idea of selling hens & chicks, Vrie, and I sure have enough of them multiplying like crazy out there. Maybe some shallow dish gardens made up with decorative stone... I don't think I'll expand into perennial divisions or bulbs, though - I like the bouquet making and dried arranging too much I guess. (Plus my application didn't indicate live plants, but I think I could swing hens & chicks in a dish garden - that's kind of a crafty-arrangey kinda thing). The market goes into mid-October, I believe, but after the September 9 weekend I probably won't attend much. There is an indoor Christmas market in December which was actually what got me started on this whole thing - I wanted to get in on that Christmas market last year and they told me I had to be approved to and a member of the farmer's market. So I applied. I'm planning on selling fresh greenery centrepieces at that time. Otherwise I'll do a couple of local fall craft fairs with the drieds. Margaret, you're so right about making some $$$ doing something you love to do. For a number of years I've been intent on getting the garden to somehow pay for itself. Believe me, it all (and then some) goes back into the yard in some form or other. But that's okay, that's the intent. I think $1.50 a bulb is more than reasonable, Brenda - I'd be tempted to go $2 and next spring raise your potted price. What's a potted lily go for at a nursery these days (haven't bought one so don't know). Usually the deals are unnamed/mixed bulbs, but if you have names and pictures to go along with those lily bulbs - I know I'd buy them at that price. Not to mention you actually get to SEE the bulb before you buy it. Flash some of those beautiful photos and you're no doubt going to have no trouble at all.

I've planted zinnias in June, July and August and they've grown and bloomed until the first killing frost....which can occur in September (rarely), October (fairly often) or November (about half the time here in southern OK). And those daisies sure do sound like Black-eyed Susans and they are native here as well. On our property, they usually start blooming in June and bloom on and off all summer, as long as the rain continues. We have two kinds on our property...one is, I think, clasping coneflower, because the leaves "clasp" the stem. Those bloom a little earlier, usually in May. The black-eyed susans bloom later, and for a longer timeframe. Also, even though Oklahoma is thought of as having a "long growing season", the truth is that for veggies, we actually have several successive seasons in one year. Here's how it tends to go: Jan.-Mar.: Cold-season crops like onions, peas, potatoes, broccoli and other cole crops, carrots, beets, spinach and other greens, radishes, etc. can be planted during this time frame, although some go in earlier than others. Mar.-May: Warm-season crops like tomatoes, peppers and eggplant (from transplants), and most direct-seeded crops like corn, green beans, summer squash, cucumbers, melons, etc. can go into the ground anytime after the last frost date, which ranges from late-March to late-April (and, in a cold year, maybe even early May) across our state. The crops that like REALLY warm weather which includes watermelon, southern peas (black-eyed peas, cream peas, crowder peas, etc.), winter squash, okra and sweet potatoes can go into the ground from mid-May through the end of June. Since lettuce does not do well in our hot summer weather, you can plant New Zealand spinach or amanranth greens as a substitute. They both grow well in the heat. Lots of crops can be succession planted, including corn, beans, cucumbers, squash, etc. so you can harvest throughout the summer. Beginning in mid-summer, you can replace spring-planted crops that have been harvested with new crops for a fall garden. Most fall garden veggies go into the ground in July and August, although I like to plant fall tomatoes in June (paradoxically I need to plant them just when my spring-planted tomatoes are hitting their peak production). Anything that you grow here in cooler months can be planted in the summer for a fall crop, and some of them produce better in the fall garden than in the spring garden. It DOES take very close attention to their watering needs to get them through the first 4 to 6 weeks of their life, though. Brussels sprouts are an example of one crop that tends to do better in the fall garden than in the spring garden. In the spring, it can heat up too fast for them....before they can make many sprouts. In the fall garden, they produce like crazy and tolerate some of the early frosts. Garlic is another crop that grows best when planted in the fall here. If you plant in the Sept.-Nov. timeframe, you can harvest in late spring when the foliage yellows. And, because our fall and even early winter weather often stays fairly mild for a long time, you can sow a winter cover crop too. So, I think you'll find that you can still grow a lot of veggies your first year, even if it seems like you are getting off to a "late" start. Dawn

Jeannie_kitchen has pretty much nailed it- Years ago, before really slick marketing hype & techniques were the norm, the naming of stones were more in line with the location of the quarry, and then the color or vice versa - eg: "giallo veneziano" - the "color" - giallo, meaning "yellow", and the "quarry" - veneziano - the name of the quarry in Brazil. Then, when the quarry discovered that what they were sending to the finishing plants did NOT match up anymore with what they had been shipping - say for the last three years, they quarry would "add" an "identifier" for the new found color, so as to set it apart from the original "first" color - eg: "giallo veneziano - FIORITO" - comes from roughly the same region in brazil, but has a totally different "look" - therefore the different name. There are also companies that "re-name" some or all common stone species in an effort to keep their customers from finding the same stone some where else- for less money. They are betting that most customers will give up trying to find "the" stone, since none of the other places that the customer has called has ever heard of "brand Juparana X-Y-Z".... This tactic works sometimes, but with really savvy customers, that have a digital camera, the internet (with places like Garden Web) and some perseverance, they'll find "the" stone that they are searching for - even if it has three or more "names"... hope that helps kevin

I have one that isn't so hard to use. When I have a free moment I'll go look at the name of it and post it. I use it frequently and have never had a problem with it.

MaxMom, it's just like the wonder bra, it loosens up with time ( lol )... My old one cup one ( about 20 years ) was so loose I had to hold it with two hands or the outer part would slide down... The 2 cup one Marigene sent me, last year, is still really tight... I store it in one piece and use the handle of a butter knife to push it down to about 1 cup then I can adjust it without too much trouble... It's easier to slide if you don't store it all the way in, leave the little ridge inside the sleeve...

OK, I had to google it to see WTH it even was. Not only did I realize that I do have one of these, but if you don't make it two words you will get some VERY different results.

(BTW, I use mine to add water to the iron. The spout is perfect.)

Well it nice to know we are all so quick on the , oops better not go there!

As to COOKING, I think this would still be a pain to use and clean. I just spray my measuring cup and then the syrup, PB, honey etc. slides right out. For PB recipes I usually measure the 1st time and then weigh. after subtracting the weight of the cup I addd the weight amt. to my recipe. Easiest of all.

Mine is from Pampered Chef and it works pretty hard. But I can slide the two sections apart. It's sometimes pushing the two pieces back together that is a little difficult.
