Can you work magic on my bedroom? I've got Photos!

Currently my bedroom is painted a lovely terra-cotta color, the one tall wall is a very dark green and the window wall is rock, ok, so it's not rock, it wallpaper. Would like to keep it because I still really like it. If it is offensive, go ahead and tell me, I can tear it down. But that wall really benefited from that wallpaper when we put it up. really.

Ok, so my head has been spinning around. First, I wanted to do the room in a deep dark purple. I was afraid of losing the black bed in the paint though. I thought with the right lamps, end tables, and bedding I could pull it off. But there was just too much resistance from my dh and I have decided that it is just too wild and over the top. I think if we were to sell this house, people might be able to accept all my other decorating, but a dark purple master bedroom could be the most frightening thing of all. So, I've bagged this idea.

Next idea.

The wall behind the bed, and the wall behind the dresser: BM Wasabi

The dark green wall: BM Weimaramer

And then the biggie: the ceiling--BM Silhoutte

Here are the colors:

wasabi:

Weimaramer

silhouette

If there is anyone who has the time, patience and generosity out there who might be able to photoshop those colors into the photo(s) I would be so grateful.

I'm thinking the alcove (that is terra-cotta right now) would just be the same as the Weimaramer wall.

Ok, so back to my saga, Saturday I wanted to go get the paint for the ceiling so my dh could paint during the week, he is leaving for a trip on Friday. I thought that I could work on the walls while he was gone. He doesn't want to do the ceiling that dark. So maybe a little lighter? I just love the dark drama.

Monday came, I revisited one of my favorite inspiration photos, that cream/white bedroom. Still can't figure out if that would look right in a room with a tall ceiling, or would it look cold. Not sure.

So, today I went to BM again, I still love the Wasabi combo.

Now it's your turn. Tell me what you think. Lots of pics in case any photoshop experts prefer one over another.

The bed is staying. I might be able to convince my dh to finally let me do something with that dresser, maybe darken it up. I will be adding different end tables (I just dragged that tall one over last night because I gave my dd mine for her summer apartmnent).

Here are the photos of the room, don't be frightened. Behind the one door is the bathroom. The closet door is behind the door that is open.

view from door

Well, aren't you brave, you made it to the bottom of the post! Sorry for how long it was. (those are paint chips over my bed!)

I don't think Wasabi is a very restful color for a bedroom.

Actually the Terracotta might be making you hungry. Supposedly it makes you eat and eat fast. That's why its a fast food color.

I might invert the color scheme and try the Silhouette on the Walls and the Weimaraner on the Ceiling. I am not sure, but I am wondering if they will go a little pink with the stone, which currently reads very orange, but that could be terracotta doing that.

I like the idea of the stone, but I tend not to like random stone even when its real: its too disorderly for me. So I am not the best person to give an opinion on that. However, I did a powder room where we papered with a beach/palm tree mural that wraps around the whole room, even the door. It's weird, its tasteless and it veers on disconcerting but it makes a statement, seems to fit the client, and after all it's a powder room. So if you like the stone, hang onto it. But I would make sure the other colors reference it.

oh pal, did you know my entire powder room is covered in this paper?

The rocks don't read terra-cotta in real life. Maybe swapping the weimaramer & silhouette could work.. And I do agree, that I wonder if the wasabi isn't restfull enough, so, I wonder if it was just on the wall behind the bed might be an option. hmm

Just wanted to chime in and say I love that quilt wall hanging, it's gawgeous dahling. I'm not one for fiddling with things when they weren't asked for, but first thing that popped in my head was that would be a super easy headboard to upholster. (I thought of this because I have no headboard and am always on the prowl for one lately that I can upholster ;D ) But then I looked at the lines of it, and the top table you ordered, and I immediately thought of a Japanese water garden. That would be a really cool look in a bedroom, imho. If I can find my BM fan deck (lost it again), will try to offer some color suggestions.

Tna, I have started a couple blogs, but they are for my sewing and repurposing businesses. Click on my name and you'll find a link to my Once Old is New Again blog. Not much to see now, but if I take time to finish a few things and take pictures I'll get them on there. I've known Kim for sometime from an old MSN group and "met" Susan last fall when I joined a group she's on at YUKU.

Love how you thought of alternating them..that was so lucky! I got lucky and bought a lot of white sheers for a nickel each, and used 12 in the living room. Then used some new in the package flat sheets I also bought at a yard sale for making slipcovers and changed my mind and made window scarves :) Use the doorknobs on a piece of wood like a coat rack, or google some ideas, I know I've seen a lot of great ideas with them. DH found the oil painting for 3.00 at a yard sale:) I'm getting dark blue slipcovers. Oh,and love the orbs in your photo, too!! Here is a link that might be useful:

mostly commenting to get notifications, but also to say I'm kind of surprised Flo didn't suggest her favorite Rub n Buff to change the hardware finish :-) It is a very easy product to use and I'd certainly consider it if I found something perfect except for the finish.

I'll be frank. I won't comment on your color choices since I'm not good at visualizing paint colors. But, if I were purchasing a home, I would much rather paint over purple walls than a dark gray ceiling. That might make me choose another home.

I think that this Vera Wang bedding set "Dune" may set the right tone with your colors.

LOL! I do vote for removing the rock wall. Perhaps (just a thought) remove the desk?

O.K. -- for fun -- working with that bedding set -- consider painting the wall behind the bed in wasabi -- and do wide horizontal stripes of the other two colors on the other walls.

Add artworks with colors ... especially the wasabi.

    Add silk wasabi curtains.

Add lots of silver and sparkly accents around the room.

I'll be frank too and say I'm not a huge fan of the rock wallpaper. Weimaraner is a lovely color but I think it might be too dark with your furniture and the lighting in that space - especially if you keep your current bedding and drapes. I'd go lighter and softer with the paint and bring in bold colors with accent pieces.

Following up on what deeinohio said, I had a friend who painted her ceiling in her master charcoal a few years back. The first thing her realtor told her to do when she looked at the house was to re-paint it. Not that I think it's a bad idea to paint a ceiling a dark color, but it's very taste specific and can be a real turn-off to buyers. If re-sale is an issue for you, I wouldn't do it.

O.K. thought about this one -- perhaps choose a pale version of one of the two more neutral shades for the ceiling -- then maybe cut the color by 50%?

Then switch to a nickel ceiling fan ....

Whatever you do decide, I would paint that five- or six-sided piece of ceiling near the entryway whatever the wall color turns out to be. It's distracting as a white "shape".

pal, got it covered! Always bothered by that!

Look at what I learned how to do tonight.

Wasabi on the side walls, Weimaramer on the window and opposite wall. Light pewter on the ceiling.

I'll be working on more options but I need sleep!

I would prefer to see your bedroom the serene whites and creams you posted in your past thread with your furniture. I could see pale grays and cream also.

I do understand and like your vision with bold paint colors and have enjoyed watching your rooms come to life but I feel the elegance neutrals bring to the table in master bedrooms is where it is at.

hi...i have weimaramer on our bedroom walls and have got to say i love it- great color! i've paired it with grey wisp and blues, so there's a totally different look to my room, but it is with dark furniture and looks great!

my personal opinion tho is i think it would look great with the silouette, but for whatever reason i am not loving it paired with the wasabi-not on the walls at least... i would pull wasabi into the room with curtains, bedding, etc if you really wanted that color and not with accent walls-it's not an accent wall color/look imo...at least not with the weimaramer.

i think the 'rock' wall will fade away and become less of a focal point with the gray-brown paint--will look better than it does with the terra cotta color i think!!

Ok, here's where I'm at. The Wasabi--not going to paint with it in this room.

So, I'm torn between a cream (Affinity yling yling) and the Weimaramer. I was playing with the BM tool early this am before work on my home computer, I will upload some more ideas later.

Anybody have the yling yling? hey it rhymes with Yuengling so maybe that's a sign.

Would the Weimeramer, (can we call it "W" for short?) be too dark coming from the Baltic Gray foyer?

Busybee--if you have any photos of W in real life, can you post it for me to see?

While we are at it, any opinions on nightstand color? If I have a black bed, must the side tables be black/dark wood? Would white look too disjointed?

Alrighty, thanks for the help and all the feedback. Back to work. Can't wait to get home tonight to play with that software some more and watch Ralph Lauren on Oprah.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, I'm considering the Wasabi in the attached bathroom. If I can get it to work and look like it has a reason to be in there.

I'm glad you changed your mind. Red and yellow are high energy colors, and bedrooms are places where we want to sleep. I hope you'll show us what you come up with when you play with that software. With your decorating flair, I'm sure the end result will be spectacular.

Because of your foyer, we went for a dark purple bedroom ceiling and absolutely love it! My only regret is I lightened the color slightly at the last minute, so it is not quite as dark a purple as our dining room (BM Purple Rain). I could easily see you doing a really deep purple on the ceiling with the creams you mentioned elsewhere on the walls. We have a vaulted ceiling in our master and the way the color looks with the height is phenomenal. I love how lights look reflecting off it at night (eggshell finish). It also is restful to look at in the a.m. when waking with how bright the room can get.

BTW - just because one realtor says you can't do something, does not mean they are right. I am a realtor and would love to show a house that looked like yours. It looks like it was done by a high end interior decorator who was worth every penny. I think you may have started a dark ceiling trend which could end up being taken up by the masses one day.

See what the Wasabi does to your complexion before you put it in your Master Bath, if that's where you put on makeup.

I had a client who had a bathroom with an intense color, and you could sorta tell if that was the bathroom where she put her makeup on. (She had three bathrooms and seemed to use any and all at random).

    Pal,

I dunno, green paint really doesn't bother me when applying makeup. I really think it helps...

dianalo, wow, thanks for that compliment. Very nice. So, what do YOU think about the rock wallpaper?

I'm thinking of leaving it, and seeing what happens when the room is painted. I can always rip it down and paint later, right?

I would love to see your purple ceiling! It sounds great!

I think that without the orange walls, your rock paper may look less intense. I'd make sure your bulbs are not soft white because they toss in a yellow tone.
I think the Weimeraner could work for your ceiling if you did not want to go full Silhouette. If you paint over the rock wall, then you have more options.
Here is a little of our ceiling. It is hard to get pix with my phone's camera, but this is an idea of how it looks. IRL, it looks better than this shows. In the second pic you can see a blade from our ceiling fan and how the globe light of it kicks a pattern on the ceiling.

Looking at this again, in the light of day and on a different monitor, I realize it looks lighter here than in person. It also looks a little maroon in the photos yet it is a true purple IRL.
I guess I should not rely on a phone camera for accuracy...

beekepperswife, the Van Gogh artwork that teacats posted would look wonderful in your bedroom. You could work off of the colors in that painting to get other colors for your room and still have the color of Wasabi in there. For example, touches of turquoise would work well with the Wasabi and look beautiful.

The stone wallpaper as GOT TO GO! I don't think it goes with the architecture of the room or the style of furniture. I am a bit biased again any faux finishes or paper because they are just that..... fake

If you are looking to make a feature of that wall, I think choosing a different color would be much more tasteful than the wallpaper.

Weimaramer is a beautiful color and would look great with the darker furniture. However, it may make the "stones" look orange. I think the Weimaramer plus a few shades darker for the stone wall if you decide get rid of the paper.

If you are a fan of the bold colors, I would pick one of two and find accessories in the color. This way it does not over energize room.

Again, it's personal choice :) Beautiful dresser.

All--Thanks for all the help. I have finished painting, except the ceiling, which will be crisp bright white. The entire room was done in Willow Creek, except the rock wall. I figured I'd do all the painting and see how it looked. I think it looks ok. Can always be taken down later. I've painted the inside of the window arch the same as the trim,(cloud white) so it really doesn't have that orange glow any longer.

Can't wait to get out and get my accessories taken care of. Going to do all white bedding, with a hit of the lime/pear green on a pillow or two and maybe a quilt/coverlet in the same color.

Here's a couple of quick pics from Saturday night right before I collapsed. If you still see a slight orange glow on the rocks, I didn't paint the inside of the window until Sunday. So, keep that in mind.
