What surprises me is that when my dad died I bawled my eyes out....haven't cried yet for my mom. I know I will....just strange the difference in how I feel at the moment. I guess grief has it's own way of coming out in everyone.

Grief is weird, in the way it manifests itself. Hard to figure it out. Perhaps you have subconsciously, become stronger than you know.

SamKaren, you have my sympathy and prayers. I know what you mean about the way grief is different each time. Dad has been gone two months now. I cried for a few minutes when he passed, but that was all. Two months later, certain things will trigger me, as when I wrote the thank you notes from the funeral, and I will cry some then, but nothing like I expected. For my uncle and aunt, and my grandmother, I cried and cried. I wonder if it just isn't quite real to me yet. Peace be with you...

You have been estranged from your mother for so long that her physical death may have less immediate impact. There's no 'right' or 'wrong' way to feel about a death (or anything). You feel what you feel!

I'm sorry for your loss Karen... I know what that is like... I lost my mom 13 years ago the 7th of this month....Day before yesterday I lost a dear cousin, have to attend her funeral today and yesterday was the 17th anniversary of my dad's death...

Bad things come in threes, they say.
Now you'll rebound slowly. Hugs to you. Maybe your sorrow will manifest itself in a way different from tears. It's kind of weird how the most benign things can trigger that. You can't be prepared for that, so don't think you have to be strong 24/7.

My sympathies to you and your family.

My mom passed away during my divorce. We weren't estranged but it never felt like I properly grieved. At the time she died, I was too overwhelmed with everything else that was going on in my life to process her death completely. It would have pushed me over the edge. It's been over 2 years and I can still feel it all bottled up inside me.

I'm so sorry for your tender loss, SamKaren. When my dh's father died he was very upset even though he wasn't very close to him. When his mom died, he was sad, but ok. My theory is that he felt badly for his mother, whom he was close to, but when she died he knew both of them were at peace.

Paula, I hope you can take the lid off that bottle in a healthy way. Grief groups can be tremendously helpful, I hear.

Aw Karen, I'm so sorry. We never know how much we can take, and you had a crap-load the past few months. Just give yourself time and "permission" to grieve.

I'm sorry for your loss. My Mom died when my son was 8 weeks old. It was a strange time. Sometimes I feel like I STILL haven't grieved... strange!
