whole wheat bread

Thanks to this forum, I can now make fail-proof biscuits! So my next question regards whole wheat bread. I made the 2nd whole wheat bread (sandwich) from the King Arthur Whole Wheat cookbook. I even added a touch of gluten to it, figuring it wouldn't rise with only whole wheat flour. sadness! Flavor was fine but crumb very dense. What recipes do you find successful for this type of bread?
