DHs procedure today - good news (sorta)

We got good news today! DHs doctor said the colonoscopy looked good - only one polyp and they will biopsy it, but doc felt certain it wasn't cancer.

Now for the "sorta" part... The doctor is unsure why DH is having these abdominal pains. He said they've ruled out the "big" stuff -- the "you're gonna die" stuff. They can do more tests, but he said they would really just be taking a shot in the dark. One he mentioned is shooting dye into DHs kidney to look at it. I think DH will consider that one (for reasons I won't go into), but we're not sure beyond that.

Follow up appointment in a few weeks. Otherwise, we'll just carry on!

What a relief!! Congratulations on the good news!

I sure hope they find a solution to the rest of theproblem, but now that you know wht it's NOT, there won't be the same "urgency."

Actually, it's just two of us, but we use our dining room daily to eat...because the kitchen area where normal people have a table holds crates for our five Goldens :) In fact, the dining room is sort of our escape - one dog-free room where we can have higher-end furniture and artwork. It's definitely our "splurge" area. So, we're okay spending more there, since we have to think about dogs when furnishing the rest of the house. The tables I've shown vary widely in price but several are relatively reasonable because the manufacturers are having a difficult time. The Council table is way more than I'd spend, but I was curious what people thought. Parma - I'll still need a new rug, but a round one instead :)

Back again. We were busy again with kid activities this weekend. We also started the move out of the house for the reno. Found a house in the neighborhood to stay so we moved some furniture and stuff over to get a jump start on next weekend's big move. Lavender--I do live in Washington--Olympia to be precise. I have a great aunt and cousins over your way in Oakesdale. Where are you? I'm still working on my plan. I'm having trouble finding a way to store all of the stuff that got displaced from moving the two wall ovens to undercounter ovens. I need a few more hours in the day to have time to really concentrate on it! Got the mag. Thanks for calling it to my attention! You're right about how cute that banquette is. Round tables seem more inviting to me than rectangular. That whole space is so inviting and warm. I wish I could pull off a space as put together as that one is! My kitchen and family room would be the same location in that house if I moved the kitchen into the dining room and moved the family room into the living room. DH is still concerned that the family room will be too narrow there. We need to make sure there is enough play space for the kids as that's their main play area. After seeing that DIY hutch in BHG, it reminded me again of an idea I had a long time ago, but was dragging my feet on. I think we've decided to move the antique hutch/sideboard out of the dining room (don't know where else we'd use it) and put build a bigger one with cabs, drawers, countertop etc. like Candace Olsen. It will give us soo much more storage space. Plus, it will give that bland area some character. We decided we could also use it for serving wine and drinks during parties. More cost, but worth it. Yes, I know Cali_Wendy's kitchen. It was one of the first ones I took note of when I found this forum. It confirmed my idea of white cabs. Every time I see it I fall in love again. Rhome--I didn't want to bother you with a re-draw until I had a pretty firm grasp on it. You've got enough to do--like enjoy those new ovens!

DH says: I am totally overwhelmed with the huge response! I so appreciate all your thoughts and well wishes. Love the mug and the cake, even with a piece missing. All I know is Annie spends a lot of time on the computer and I never know what she's doing. It drives me nuts. I think it’s learned helplessness more than gender, though I agree it’s grown men mostly who can’t find things. Perhaps because men have been culturally enabled over generations and found it to be convenient? Don’t know. But i can definitely relate as both my son and husband claim not to see or find what’s in front of them. Yes, they’ve looked, according to them. I always ask “did you look with your eyes closed or open”?

Well that is good news - to know that they have ruled out all "the big stuff"

Here's something to think about. My niece (30 yrs old) has for the past 4 - 5 years had terrible stomach pains, pains on her side and has gone to a number of doctors. One of them took out her appendix. Nothing seemed to help as she still has pain. Lately, she had had terrible arthritic type pains in her hands, hips and knee besides the pain in her side and stomach. Well, she just went to a new doctor and he took some blood tests and she has Lyme disease. Not good because it has gotten progressively worse, but, good because somebody finally found out what's wrong her her. I think she is immediately starting antibiotics and is scheduled to go see a specialist.

So, I'm suggesting have the Doc check his blood for Lyme. My niece never remembers finding a tick or having a big bullseye rash that is typical of Lyme. I would suggest having the test done when he is in pain. The day my niece went for her test she was in a lot of pain and I think that it showed as being active. It's something to consider after exhausting all other avenues and not finding anything.

Good Luck - it's so frustrating when they can't pinpoint what is wrong.

And I hope that they can find what is really wrong, and it be relatively easily treatable, resulting in full healing.

The all-clear after a colonoscopy is great to hear, Rita, I'm happy for you both! Now, hopefully just knowing that will help ease his mind and maybe that's the first step towards his recovery. Yay for good news!

I don't post here very often; but just wanted to suggest perhaps asking the doctor about celiac disease, if that hasn't already been ruled out. Good luck.

I'm so relieved to hear it not any 'big stuff'. Still sending positive thoughts to find out what the heck this is so DH can start feeling better soon.

That's very good news on the colonoscopy results Rita. I'm sure you both took a big sigh of relief. I'm sorry he's still having pain in his abdomen though. :( I'll sure keep my fingers crossed that he gets better or they can find the cause of his distress.

I'm glad the big ones have been ruled out! I'm going to second Dee can's suggestion of celiac. His symptoms are very similar to my dad's when he found out he had it, esp the part about what happens after he eats.

I hope they figure it out soon, it's frustrating when we don't know what is causing pain.
