I wish I could find a way to fix my typos. My fingers work faster than my brain, sometimes I hit 2 keys at once. "Revise" would be nice.

I've heard that Gmail gives a 5-second delay before it sends out an email (in case you panic and want to retract something). Not much time, but often as soon as I hit the send button I regret it!

This comment is strictly confined to the mechanics of this board: it's the most primitive of any of the forums I visit.
Even the smallest forums now have editing, color choices, font styles and sizes, previews.
For such an active board, it's too bad it lacks those features.
It would be a lot more fun to use.

Maybe some day they will just totally do away with the GW and THS Forums and go totally with the iVillage format that owns GW.

Frankly, I prefer the forums as they are and that posts can not be deleted.

You can delete or edit while composing a post, but once it has been posted, it is out of your control. Yes, there has been times that I would have liked to have deleted or corrected a post of mine, but I think that I understand the programming work it takes to permit this.

First of all, the data program would have to guard against Tom, Dick, and Harry from timkering with posts that are not theirs. To do that, it would have to attach I.D. tags to each post (tags not displayed) and compare the tag to the user logged in. If there was a match, an edit or deletion would be permitted, else not. This sounds easy enough until one considers how the data base may be constucted. There are many ways to make a data base and some are arranged to easily accept additions at the end of a huge file, but not in the middle. To make a change in the middle of a file might require a total rewrite of the entire file (in this case, the file might be a cocantation of many individual entries in the order as written). It all depends on the structure of the data base.

I suspect these forums are using simple file structures to minimize storage requirements. When editing an existing entry is permitted, the programmer should guard against change attemps by users who were not the original author of a post.

In this case I'm glad you didn't have that option. I almost had to pick my self up off the floor. You are too much!

Of all the forums I've visited, this is my favorite set-up. This one is the easiest to read, post, least confusing.

I have learned (the hard way) that it's a good idea to compose your posts in MS WORD - think about the post for awhile, edit all you want, and when you think it's worded and spelled as you intended, you can copy and paste it into the thread.

That's because this forum was around in 1996, when I first got on the internet, and perhaps even before that. Long before all the more complex coding available in today's forums some 13 years later.

I agree an edit function would be nice, but it would probably cost a fortune to rewrite all 100+ forums on this site. For a site that's free to users, that's probably not a cost the owners will bear.

I sometimes wish we had the edit function, but I do like the setup here.

It is quick loading. Some places have so much crap, it takes forever for the page to load, and is almost impossible to post.

If you ever have a picture you don't want up anymore - you can just remove/replace it at Photobucket.

As for typo's etc, if you get in the habit of Previewing your message you should be able to fix your typo's before they are posted to the site.
Frankly, there is no excuse for a post full of typo's or other basic errors if we just take the minute to read over what we've written. I am one of those anal people that can't stand to read something that is full of errors. It would be nice if we would all take the time to check up on ourselves. Of course if you don't know a word is spelled incorrectly then you are not going to fix it obviously, but some of the errors are a bit tragic.

I sometimes do what kayjones does.

What I wish for is a "filter". Don't take this the wrong way -- we all have our own unique personalities and varied interests -- some are compatible, some clash. I'd like to be able to create a filter that would ignore some subjects or posters. For now it's just SOB.

I like the way this board performs best of all, but I would like an edit option. One time I left out a crucial word on another forum post and I would have been slammed for sure, but got in and fixed it right away.

We need to be our own Editor.

I do type my message in Word if it is a long message and then C&P it into the thread.

Also, if you use your Spellcheck feature, you will see there is an error and can fix it, which BTW, eliminates the need for the SP? thingy

If you are prone to typos, take a minute to correct it.

What bothers me the most is the lack of punctuation, which makes a long message hard to decipher.

I like the way this forum is set up. Editing would be nice, but like Sue said, it could cause problems too.

I think it does and that it could likely cause problems big time on the trading forums, as there would be no proof of what all had been said/offered as described.

On the other gardening site (Dick's Garden) where one can edit their posts, I once saw someone get very nasty with someone. That someone then retorted childishly. The OP then pulled her nasty post, which left just the childish reply made by the other member, which was very confusing if one did not get a chance to see what had been deleted.

I wish they had a spell check. I hate having to constantly look up words. Also I wish the "Search" was more advanced so you didn't have to go through a bunch of posts when you want only the current posts. I would love to be able to limit it to just a year like only search 2009 posts. They need a "Suggestion Box" for all these tips.

I think you can download Google toolbar, it has spell check in it. Just go to Google. It will give you options or you can check Auto fix.
