I talked to her tonight to find out the results of the brain scan she had last week....good news, so far the tumor shows no signs of returning. Other tests showed most of the lymph-nodes are stabilizing. She is having chemo every third week and next week will be the half way of that therapy. She asked me to let you-all know how she's doing, and I'm sure to say a big hello, from her. She is being so brave through all of this. She is my hero. Dottie

Dottie, I'm sorry your family is going through this. I used to (many years ago) work in a pathology/histology lab at a major VA hospital, running an electron microscope. The reason path reports take so much time is that it really does take a day or more to process the tissue, to prepare it for analysis. It then must be thin-sectioned, stained, photographed, and then finally analyzed by the pathologist. Pathologist might then order more sections from a different area - yada, yada. They aren't trying to prolong your anxiety - really they aren't. But the tissues we prepared for EM took up to two days to infiltrate with the fixative, and then the resin needed to be cured before we could make the thin sections. Some tumors are instantly identifiable as malignant, but not all are. I know you are anxious for the diagnosis, but an accurate diagnosis is much more important than a quick one. So nice to get such great news! You, DTF and your whole family are models of greatness to me. You all take things as they come and have had way more than your share of issues, yet all of you keep your heads up, your spirits up and keep all of us going. Generous caring people. How we so need more like you in this world! It's a pleasure and I'm proud to say I know you!

My best to you all! It really looks like 2009 will be a far better year for so many of us! :)

Dear Cynic, your kind words have overwhelmed me. I'm not sure we deserve them. Yes we have had some tough times this past year and into this one. Deaths and illness of a number of loved ones. but not any more than others. For me, it is my Faith that keeps me going and the strength of other family members. Again, Thank You for the nice words.
