Clinking with juice this morning...trying to get an early start on the day!!

DD Amy is home from school for the holiday break!! Now the girl boy ratio is back to normal LOL!!!

I plan to finish my baking today-well just as soon as I go out to get a new mixer. My kenmore went kubluey while mixing dough last night. Funny too because I had a hand mixer for oh about 20 years until it died. I replaced it with this kenmore just 2 years ago. Proof that they just don't make em like they used to!!

I also have a few gifts left to buy...I do plan on getting the family a wii system. Plus I need a few more stocking stuffers as well as gifts for FIL and DGN Alexia.

Later tonight I have a veiwing to attend. A friend and co workers father passed away this week-her mom is also in hospice so this is so sad for this lady. She took time off from work to care for both parents and she really needs support-trouble is we are supposed to get a storm today and if the weather gets bad I will not be able to go.

Frank has 4 wheel drive on his truck so thats a possibility.

Tomorrow I have to work, Sunday too!

Tuesday I have been asked to cater the store holiday luncheon so I have asked for it to be a pot luck!! Thanksgiving really wore me out!! Boss was ok with my suggestions and co workers are signing up to bring all sorts of dishes!!

Our holiday dinner will be at oldest brothers home again this year. He offered since my house is up for sale and not very feastive. Next year I will host!!

So for this year I plan to make some lasagna as well as a new recipe for peirogi casserole.

I will also make some sort of salad.

Susie, it sounds like you have a full plate, sorry to hear about your friends father passing.
Also sorry to hear about your mixer passing on too.

I've been working non-stop this week, was asked if I'd work on my two days off in addition. My best plans for baking cookies sure did take a dive. I have dough in the fridge and have my fingers crossed that I can find some time.

Christmas shopping is done with the exception of a couple of small misc. type gifts. Those will be from my place of work anyway. TG for the internet!

Off to work now...will be ready for a **clink** tonight!

Susie is right, the weather here is awful. I'm sorry to hear of your friends father passing, please be careful if you do venture out. And a new mixer might be fun, there are ltos of sales right now and Linens & THings is still pumping out the bargains, you might find one there.

Nancy hope you get a little time for yourself too - sounds liek you are up to your eyeballs in busy.

My boys had school today inspite of the weather, but I am expecting the early dismissal phone call any time. It is getting bad out there. I am going to finish my baking if it kills me LOL! I only have 3 more recipes to make (I think) and they will be done today. I have everything in the house, so no excuses that I have to run out for something.

I still have a few small stocking stuffers to buy too - but they can all be gotten locally and I will probably pick them up on Monday.

Have a safe weekend everyone and don't let the holidays get to you. Take some time to just relax!

Also, you might consider Chamblee's Roses. They are shipped in gallon pots and are more mature than roses of many own-root vendors. Chamblee's selection is not as extensive as some, but they do have nice roses. Another vendor with larger own-root plants is High Country Roses, though their selection is aimed at colder climates. Still, you might find some you like there; I have. Amity Heritage Roses used to sell the largest own-root bands around, just gorgeous plants, but I don't think they are currently active. It didn't look like it to me when I last visited their website. Probably there are others, but I'm only mentioning ones I have purchased from myself. Well it is Sunday and I am just posting about Friday. Yesterday was my birthday and my folks came up and 3 of my sisters plus all my nephews (4 under the age of 4) so the girls had lots of fun and best of all everyone brought the food and I didn't have to cook anything I didn't want to, plus mom cleaned up afterward. I made the spinach dip and also bacon tomato dip. We had fun getting together and watching the Huskers win the game last night. The girls went home with my sis so just DH and Hayden and I until Tuesday, nice time to relax and catch up. We did some hollaring but got the house cleaned, even behind the coach lol, anyone know where all that stuff came from. I think we might meet the in-laws for a local towns fall festival and go to the parade and see some relatives of my MIL's husband. We see them lots and they consider us part of the family. When the kiddies were young, we took them to a student preview. We had prepared them by showing them the movie, telling them the character/story, playing the music (especially the Anvil Chorus) and of course showing them the Marx Brothers A Night at the Opera. DS #2 fell asleep in the car on the way there. He woke up crying I dont want to sit through a three hour opera!. The minute the house lights went down, and the curtain up on the castle scene, his eyes got big and he was enthralled through intermission. We sneaked down from nosebleed to third row center after intermission. After the show he proclaimed mom, if I can sit here, I want to go to operas! Ka-ching, ka-ching.um grow up a bit, kid when you can sit through the Ring cycle, well add you to our subscription. LindaC, every time there is an empty seat by us, I put you there in spirit. Im the only one in the family that doesnt like chicken/beef on that thing. It was a late dinner because he had spent the afternoon in downtown LA talking with a Bee Keeping company. Because of our garden, we now have a hive on our side yard (pretty sure its Euro not African beasties) and DH wants to keep it but move it down to the bottom of the garden. May not be doable, but hell try. Its next to a row of oleanders and he says honey from those blossoms are toxic, so we wont be harvesting any. Saturday we started setting up our sukkah or booth for the Biblical Festival of the Tabernacles which starts Oct 13th. We come up with humorous decorative themes remodeling (hanging power tools from the roof), disco, my favorite a few years ago was mentally ill bible heroes. Lots of those! This year Im thinking it would be topical to choose either Jewish bankers (good AND bad) or Jewish political candidates. LOL. Last night we took the kids, as part of DS #1s bday present, to see The Capitol Steps; he is into politics. We went out to a good Japanese restaurant, his favorite, before hand. Good laughs. Poor kids bday falls on Yom Kippur eve this year. Bound to happen as he was born the day after YK. Today DH and I are going to a swap meet to pick up more parts for the sukkah. I think Ill put up a pizza (Dougs fault) for tonight. I have to start planning Yom Kippurs dinner meal on Wednesday nightDS #1 has asked for salmon in puff pastry, and I suggested it would be good with an avgolemono sauce, with orzo pilaf on the side he is delighted. Whew, it was easy doing this on Word, with the TGIF thread open in another window, then cutting and pasting! Clinking with water to everyone (big water drinker)!

TGIF y'all! Welcome to the newbies and my old friends. Happy Thanksgiving to those up north! Houseguests were last weekend and it was wonderful! They were fabulous and helpful guests, we had a blast! It was good to have the house full again! Tomorrow I've got a chiro session scheduled, a haircut and then the wedding of a co-worker. It should be a nice event. Sunday we're taking MIL out to brunch and then marketing. She's the one who lost her license in August and has gotten a learner's permit (at 90!) to try and retake the test after driving lessons. She's a sharp cookie, she might just be able to do it. If not, we'll have to consider the alternative sources of transportation. The taxi coupons are a joke, everything around here is a $25+ plus fare--one way!! Sunday later afternoon and eve we've got plans with friends and hopefully an activity. We'll see... Happy Birthday Susie! Nancy, I'd love to be in Traverse City this weekend for the festival! Have fun! Maggie- good luck on the sale! TGIF everyone. Greetings from work. Yes, the weather here is sucky. When I left the house it was just rain but it is now sleeting out here in Chester County.

I hope to get out a little early to do some baking and mail cookies to the CA son in the morning. However, a long voice mail from my boss listing things to "please help with" may change that plan.

Nancy, I agree. Thank heavens for online shopping! I've done almost all my shopping through Amazon while at work. Love getting home to those brown boxes. It's like having Christmas twice.

I have to finish my Christmas cards tonight, too. So the weekend will be getting the tree up finally and the remaining decorations. Kind of late, huh.

I am also in the midst of getting bids on some house renovations so I have to clean to have various contractors go all over the house. I need to clean up the extra bedrooms for holiday visitors anyway.

I'm working Monday, Tuesday and half of Wednesday, then taking a week off. At some point I will have a quiet moment to reflect on the holidays. I agree -- do try to relax and enjoy.

Hummm, no coffee, but raising glass of OJ to you all.

Nancy I hope that means more Christmas money.

First the weather--it's in the low 80's this week. This means I will be able to use the lanai comfortably for our Christmas Eve party. Yea! As you can imagine, it really helps so guests aren't jammed up in the house.

I've been cleaning like a mad woman but got distracted yesterday when I discovered (well I know it but ignored it) that I had so many duplications of products--7 canisters of body powder! I don't even use it.

Tonight we are taking 4 yo and 2 yo grandbabies on a hayride looking at the Christmas lights.

Off to finish cleaning the lanai.

Just got done snow blowing the driveway. Not completely done yet but it's a start. Got about 8 inches of white fluffy stuff and 2 more storms expected before Christmas. It would take a miracle for it NOT to be a white Christmas this year. Taking a break, and then on to my 3 doggie visits for the day. None of them cancelled. Even the person who got a snow day doesn't want to walk their dog, so I am the MAN!

When I get back I am whipping up a pot 'o chili since the thread here got me hungry for chili this morning. Then over to the lady across the street to clear off her driveway. She is 74 and if I don't do it she is stuck in her house....probably until spring LOL!

Happy friday everyone. No baking for me. Another amen for Amazon! I am done shopping and now just have to wrap everything.

*Amazon almost made me home bound this year. Last year I got the unlimited shipping, turns out it was good and bad. I bought way more things than I would have if I had to consider shipping costs.

Happy Weekend everyone!

Weather here is awful, just awful! I have a dinner party planned for tonight but I'm doubting it will happen. I'll wait a few more hours before making the final call. Tables all set, groceries all bought, appetizers all made...I'm not going to be a happy camper!

Few new recipes for tonight. I made a Country Pate from the latest Bon Appetit and I'm doing Crab Stuffed Shrimp from the latest Fine Cooking.

Other than that it's my Spanikopits, stuffed mushrooms, assortment of cheese and olives to round off the appys and Roasted Red Pepper Soup, Herb crusted pork rib roast, twice baked potatoes, green beans with caramelized pearl onions and Ann's Chocolate Pate with Creme Anglaise and Raspberry coulis for dessert.

Christmas shopping is all done including stuffers so tomorrow will be wrapping which is Clive's job so I'll watch him and make the rum and eggnogs.

If the party doesn't happen I'll see if people can make it for an afternoon cocktail party on Sunday. I'll include some neighbours so we can use up some of this food..... : (

Happy Weekend and start to the Christmas Festivities

My sister and I will have our marathon cookie/candy day tomorrow. I plan to start about 6am. This year wil be lots of fun and equally exhausting as my little 19 month old nephew will be "helping".

Sunday is out Christmas service at church, I love the little ones all dressed up singing off key.

Hopefully at little bit of relaxing Sunday evening before the whirlwind of next week.

Doc & I got out early this a.m.-- last minute bits & pieces to pick up for our Family Christmas Sunday, 2 cookie/food gifts to deliver & then blew the budget
when we stopped at the liquor store-- I picked up Kaluha-- white creme d cocoa-- raspberry liquor -- Grand Marnier for a couple new drinks I want to try at our gathering
(Orange Chai, Raspberry Truffle Martini, Kaluha Alexander -- found them in the LCBO Food & Drink magazine Sharon sent along with my swap)-- so I'll be clinking Sunday to all of you.

Clink with a cup of tea -- I'm snowed in here! Made coconut oatmeal lace cookies to keep myself busy, and then have been keeping myself busy eating them all day! Watched the new muppets christmas special that we had DVR'ed and it was beyond adorable... Now I'm thinking its time for a nap!

Happy Holidays!

The factory closed for the first time in eight years due to snow. It would have been nice if they had called those of us on second shift as a whole bunch of us showed up to find the parking lot empty and the doors locked. This starts at least two weeks off for me. All but 25 people are laid-off until the end of January! So far I'm not one of the lay-offs but I still have hope of getting part of January off. I put in lots of overtime last fall so I'm in fairly good shape to weather a few weeks off.

Clinking with coffee for now. Going out to see a gal I'm really crazy about late tonight. She bought Dolly some fancy dog biscuits as a Christmas gift. We bought books for each other so it looks like a promising friendship is under way. It has quit snowing and the roads are being plowed... poor snowplow guy slipped off into the ditch with his big plow truck. Don't know how they are going to get him out as he went in deep... probably need a crane.

POOF chili for breakfast and lunch! A christmas ham from work waiting to become sandwiches and pea soup. Thinking of working on my green chili recipe... a few hot peppers and some cumin in the pea soup?

Stay warm and stay safe. Bless all those that check in on neighbors both old and young.

Happy weekend wishes to all!

We had our big snowfall last week and now here we are at 80 degrees today and wearing tshirts. That's Louisiana! I hope those of you who are snowed in are safe and can stay warm.

It's been a busy day: got my hair cut, purchased a few last minute gifts, bought the turkey and a few more things from Whole Foods. Tomorrow I'll go to the regular (ie Cheap) grocery store to get more and then fingers crossed that I can stay out of the stores til after Christmas.

Now I'm off to pick up DS #2 from the airport. We haven't seen him since August and it has taken him 14 hours to get here, but he made it!! One of the few flights to leave LaGuardia today so we're thrilled!

Like Duane and Michael, I'm snowed in. Well, I'm at Elery's, he HAD to work to night, since he works for a big utility company here in Michigan it was something about load and keeping the lights on and the furnaces running. I'm really glad I insisted on bringing the Jeep down, I told him that it didn't matter if there was three FEET of snow, he could get to work in the Jeep, and he did, he just called to tell me it wa a long slow drive and he'd be home in the morning.

Susie, I LIKE potlucks, we just had one at the office on Wednesday.

Nancy, I hope you get a break soon, and those personnel problems at the store get resolved pretty darned soon.

Cathy, a hayride sounds like fun, here it would have to be a snowmobile ride!

Diane, have a drink for me, will you. That kahlua one sounds good.....

alexa, I can't believe they didn't call off school, if you weather is anything like mine.

Melissa, bake away, it's all the more fun with a little helper.

Dedtired, you sound like I did several years ago, until I gave up a lot of pieces of "Christmas carp". Now I try to keep things a lot low key, and maybe someday I'll learn to like Christmas again. It hasn't happened yet, though.

Sharon, I'm sorry about your dinner party. Elery and i were supposed to take Bud and makayla and the girls to the toledo Zoo today. That got cancelled yesterday, so I'm kind of bummed too.

Em, my favorite Christmas movie is "The Muppet Christmas Carol" with Michael Caine as Scrooge, LOL.

Lyra/Michael, have fun with the new gal, it sounds like you could be great friends. I sure hope you do get a little break in January, give you a chance to rest up.

Grace, I'm glad your boy made it home, family is what makes Christmas special.

Happy Friday, everyone! Clinking tonight with something warm to keep myself thawed.

Up here in the Pacific NW, we're snowed in, too. We've had snow and ice for 8 days now and more is promised. I may be finished Christmas shopping and have to make do with what I have. DD hasn't been able to come home from college, even though it's only an hour's drive away.

We're supposed to have DH's family here for cookies and munchies on Sunday. Just in case the weather allows it, and because it's fun, we'll be baking like crazy tomorrow.

This is the first year we haven't wished for a white Christmas, and even though it's a rare occurrence, will probably have one. ALL of my family (my parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, some with spouses and children) is supposed to be together on Christmas at my parents' house...35 of us with some coming from IL, OH, and AZ...If flights can leave and land, and if, once everyone arrives, we can all drive safely to Mom and Dad's.

Very hard to believe our next TGIF will be after Christmas!

Happy Before Christmas Weekend! Today was Christy's last day until the 30th. She still had six days vacation to take. It will be nice having her home. It sounds like everyone is doing well and busy busy. I did 100% of my shopping online and everything has arrived. I did get notice today that two things that were backordered are on their way too and will be here before Christmas. Nice.

Our Christmas is going to be a bit subdued this year. On Monday it will be one year since we lost our beloved Pinky dog. We are both still very sad about it, so I hope Christy being home on vacation and us being together will help. This is the first time in 28 yrs that we haven't put a tree up. Just couldn't get into it. She bought me a beautiful wreath to put over the mantle in living room. I'll decorate that tomorrow and try to at least get a few boxes of decorations put around. It will be a distraction, I hope.

In any case, I wish the best of all of ya'll and I raise my raspberry seltzer to ya'll. Happy Holidays!
