I hear a car alarm in the middle of the night, I think...hurry up and steal it...and then put the pillow over my head.

LOL I think most people ignore car alarms when they go off - I know I do and wish it would turn off but if someone is breaking into your house the alarm might startle the intruder enough to make him leave.

My neighbour's house alarm always goes off when he isn't home because he usually leaves a window open and the breeze moves the curtains which sets off the alarm. it happens so often everyone around here ignores it but if it lasts longer than 20 minutes someone calls me to go turn it off usually a neighbour on shift work. I never hear it! LOL

Anne, tell your neighbor that he's darn lucky that he doesn't live where I do. Here, you have to have a license/permit for a home alarm system, which you have to pay to renew every other year. You are allowed only one false alarm. After that, the local law enforcement will send you a bill for responding to false alarms.

Lindsey, California often sets the precedent for the rest of the country where laws and standard regulations are concerned. I hope that one never catches on. LOL

This is funny because BH has a habit of hitting the alarm button by accident. He keeps his keys in the inside pocket of his jacket. He has set off the alarm so many times when he is getting ready in the morning, putting stuff in his pockets etc. Then he's fumbling around trying to find them to turn it off. My poor neighbours. Their bedroom is on our driveway. Maybe I'll tell him to bring them upstairs to bed every night now. It's a good idea!

LOL, my hubby just opened the garage door, when he had the remote (which is tiny, and connected to the alarm) in his pocket.

No telling how long that door was open, when I got home.

Sounds like a good idea to me...if the neighbors don't react it may scare away the intruder! My neighbors yukon was stolen a few months ago...right in front on his house directly across from us. We heard nothing, but since then we both hear everything! It's an awful feeling.....I'll try anything to chase them away!

They now have a remote switch tht you can turn lights on from any room in the house,.
I have the switch to my living room lights in my hallway so I can almost get into bed and then turn the LV lights out. In fact I think I'll bring the switch in and put it on my night table. You can get one at WM in the new item section for about $14.
It could work on anykind of lights.

Key ring. House key. Car key.

That's all.

It's a good idea and it would probably scare off an intruder, I think. I would test it though, to make sure it'll work from your bedroom to the garage.

I keep my keys in the car, which is probably not smart, but it's locked into the garage which is right under our house so if the garage door goes up we know it instantly. The four dogs (big, mean and scary sounding) would let us know if anything was happening that we weren't aware of.

Do you ever watch "It Takes a Thief"? It's about home protection and one of the biggest things the thieves worry about is barking dogs. They target homes that don't have any of them. So obviously, noise is a huge factor.

it's amazing how far away they'll work...DS needed something out of our truck which sits outside...i went upstairs to our bedroom and using the remote by the window opened the truck! I think it's a great idea cause the noise would probably scare off a burgular!

I think this is a great idea...I tried it from our 2nd floor bedroom and it worked....I also read, keep your keys in a pocket if you're outside working in case you happen to fall...You can alert your DH or DW with the alarm...

I have three Chihuahua's here that will bark non stop until you go away. Vique.

I usually bring my keys (purse) in the bedroom with us at night just in case we hear someone break in the front of the house. We can escape through the French doors of the bedroom and jump in the car and take off (if my DH hasn't shot them yet).

Not a bad idea. I have a phone in the bedroom. Hard wired so it's not going to suffer from a dead battery or not connect or something. I can call 911 if there's a problem.

irishdancersgram, I do a little different. Always carry a phone, now I carry the cell phone in case of an accident while outside. Well, almost always... Didn't have it when I slipped on the ice a few weeks ago! But as I hobbled around in my initial recovery stages I carried it too, just in case.

An elderly friend of mine told me that he carries his garage door opener on him too so he can let someone in if he should have a problem. I thought that was a great idea.
