Knowing which plugs are hotter or colder than the ones you presently have in your engine is easy if you're content to stay with the same brand. Nearly all of the world's plug makers use a number-based code to designate heat range: foreign firms follow a system in which higher numbers mean colder plugs; American companies do just the opposite, assigning hotter plugs higher numbers. Unfortunately, there is no semblance of order beyond this point. One company, Champion, is in a state of nomenclature transition that makes its product line inordinately confusing. The American Rule applies at Champion, but in an odd way, spread across three series of heat ranges that encompass touring and racing spark plugs, old and new, with double-digit numbers assigned to some and single digits for others.

OK everybody, blowsy is a term I picked up from reading english gardening books. I take it to mean big pretty flowers -- like the kind you see in all of those english cottage garden books. you've all given me some really lovely choices -- GGG, many of the plants on your list are also on the list of deer in my neighborhood. I'd love to grow asters, but that's on their list right after roses. And bulbs are absolutely a no-no in my garden -- the voles have an absolute field day with any bulb I plant. Silly me, I planted out 50 different alliums last fall -- and by spring there wasn't one bulb left. Not one. Nell, love your suggestion for a shrub. it will be a mixed border, and I'd forgotten about putting in shrubs. great, great idea! vikki, i have many nepetas in my garden already (even a pink one!). so i'm looking for something a little different. but you're on the right track with that suggestion -- the deer hate nepeta. Maybe an agastache would work! I also received an offline suggestion for onethera -- the pink one. I absolutely love this plant and it does great in my garden. Another great suggestion for a plant that I'd forgotten about. By-the-by, I'm in zone 8 too -- california. i *may* post a picture of the bed once it's planted. although i may wait until next season when things are bigger. Can someone write me offline and tell me how to post a large picture. I'e only ever been able to post a thumb nail. thanx again everybody -- happy gardening.

I grew Brandywine Yellow/PS this year. It didn't produce a single fruit until late September (was set out in the first week of May), but we had an unusually hot and dry summer. Perhaps they'll produce better in your greenhouse. We ended up with 7-8 tomatoes. My wife really liked them because they aren't particularly sweet. I'll grow them again sometime down the road (too many other varieties to try first!). I'll second the recommendation for Green Giant.

Well, here it is March 25 and I have "bragged" (excitedly) about this project all the while we have been travelling the I 5 corridor here in Oregon. Think I may have recruited a couple of friends to look us up. Did Alisande decide to give up because of so few participating? (We left home March 9 and have not always had a WiFI connection or many down days) I have really found that writing (also journaling which I have done sporatically) just takes me to places and memories I have not expeced. That must be the Catharism" that folks talk about....facinating details of long forgotten events. Mind blowing at times. When we were in Alaska two years ago, the community of Palmer just " spoke" to me, I wanted to stay or return or delve into the background of the place. It was one of President FDR's programs to "grow and populate" the wilderness and I was completly hooked. So, in my writing I was so very surprised to find that I too was part of one of his "programs" to better the lives of such ordinary people who were right off the farms of the mid=west, willing to work and educate their children. I knew where I had been....but I didn't KNOW what it had been. Quite astonishing, really. So Thank you, Susan! And, I haven't even begun to explore those events in history that I have been so very close to and thought that I would just write those down so my kids would remember them thru my eyes.
