H Assignment - Memories

Happened to have these on my webspace; they all have meaning to me. All of our pictures tell a story about us, why we took them, the circumstances of how we happened to take the photo, etc.

First the bad news. Somebody shot out the window on my Honda a couple years ago:

Then there was my childhood home/house on Highland Ave., over 50 years since we moved from there; it didn't look like this, very nice but not the same:

Then there is the beautiful Harisons Yellow Rose:

I decorated my grandmother's long-neglected grave this spring. Her name was Helen, but she hated it and preferred to be called Nellie. They have long since thrown the flowers in the trash; I never liked artificial ones on graves (family traditions, always plenty of real ones) but that is sometimes what you have to do now:

Finally, I sent my daughter out with a camera I was testing (ended up giving it to my grandson), and she came back with a hollyhock:

Thank you claido2. I can't wait for O. I have some fantastic (to me) photos of our five-day saga with a baby owl.

I've got to add this one... it's a green-margined sport of Squash Casserole, and I am a big fan of SC... so easy, so fast, so large... nice ruffled leaves and one of the lowest big clumps so it can be used where you need a low profile... I can also recommend the reverse SC sport... green center, yellow margin - called Key Lime Pie. Like its parent, fast, easy, nice form and attractive leaves.

Really good pictures. Wonder if a Harrison's rose would live in zone7 but look at those thorns!!

gmom74, that is one hardy rose bush, and, yes, the thorns are horrid, but the rose is so beautiful. I've talked to a lady in Canada who grows it, don't know how it does in warmer climates.

I always coveted the Lady Banks rose, which is a beautiful yellow one that spreads all over the place, but it is not hardy in my zone, it is for your zone.

I guess you could try and see. They couldn't look worse than mine look right now after we transplanted them and they suffered severe setback. They are starting to put out new leaves even on the one plant that looked like it was a total goner.

They are a once-bloomer, so if you could find something similar for your zone that blooms for a longer period, I think you might be happier with it.

And I learned when I asked questions about it that it is only one r, named after the Harison who found it, patented or propagated it originally.
