I've never had a bad manicure. If you're content w/ the way you do your manicures I sure wouldn't pay to have it done. Mine always look just great and I can't come close to doing one as well on myself.

I get mine done every 2 weeks and believe me, they look GREAT. I would definitely go back and speak to the manager.

I think you should go back too - the polish should not be rough like you're describing.

I will say that I work with a girl and have known her for almost 27 years and I bet in that 27 years, I've never seen her more than a dozen times without nail polish. She does as good if not better than the "professionals". When I use to wear fake nails, if I wanted the color changed between fills, she would paint them for me at lunch and hers always looked so much better than what I paid for.

LOL - we'd have that breakroom stinking to high heaven with our nail polish products.

I have one more funny - my mother just turned 74 and about 2 years ago, a friend of hers talked her into going and getting a pedicure. My mother had never had a manicure or a pedicure. She went one time. ONE time, and got a toenail fungus. Needless to say, she hasn't had another pedicure since then.

The only times I have had a bad manicure were when I went to one of the Walk Ins Welcome where all the the manicurists were Oriental and moved from city to city a week at a time and the other time was when I went to the beauty school and it was her first time. She was so nervous she was shaking. I was afraid to have her do it again and I didn't want her to get in trouble with the instructor. I did tell her she would get better as she did more and not to be so nervous.

I used to get mine done regularly when I was employed...and never had a problem..they always turned out great

You didn't get a good job. Your cuticles should have been pushed back and your polish should be smooth. Speak to the manager and ask them to redo your nail at no charge. Don't give up on manicures, just go somewhere else and try again. I don't go often but I go to the same place each time and they do a great job. I'm especially fond of pedicures.

nope never had a mani or a pedi. I don't have long nails, keep mine short.. but I have thought about getting a pedicure, and EVERY time I talk myself in to it, there is a newspaper article about nasty infections from recent pedicures with gross pictures... no joke. EVERY time!

And I thought I was the only one who never had had a mani or pedi. My nails are short too and I like them just the way they are.

i've had my nails done three times in my life. the first time for a wedding and i didn't realize that they were a little too long until the first time i had to go to the bathroom - OUCH!

the next time, i made sure they didn't use too long a tip. it still was uncomfortable, because i couldn't coordinate my contacts and using a keyboard was a joke.

the very last time i got a fungus infection. if i was ever to go back again, i'd bring my own tools. that infection was nasty.

I have farm girl fingernails. I keep them short and clean, that is as good as it gets, LOL!

I hope the fake long nails are going out of style (they said big fake boobs are OUT!).

I saw something on TV about the cleanlyness of a lot of these places. Ick! I am sure they showed the worst of the worst, but the show made is sound very common.

I am one that has the farm girl fingernails like Iowagirl. In fact I just trimmed mine last night. I hate getting dirt under my fingernails during the summer and do lots of cooking too. Plus with all my little ones and the baby I would feel awful to scratch them.

I did get a pedicure once, wasn't impressed at all. I have lots of caluses from walking barefoot and they didn't even touch them, that was what I really needed.

Short and clean here too. Once in a while a sheer tinted polish. Never had a manicure and will never want one. In the summer I do my own pedicures. No one looks that close at my feet anyway.

We seem to get calluses on our feet from too much rubbing contact ... and poor girls in gardens didn't even get them looked after when she had a pedi!

Actually, when I bathe I usually rub mine with a thumb, rather hard, maybe a thumbnail. I can remove quite bit of the callus, fairly easily.

And it just grows back!

I seem to have developed a slight callus on the joints at the edge of the hand on my two small fingers, left hand - quite a lot of working on a surface, palm up?

Have you noticed how many hours that we spend using keyboards, while we watch computers?

Anybody developed any of those calluses just under the bottom of your hip bones?

What kind of treatments have you developed to cope with them? I can see one working ourselves on the ones that we develop on our hands or feet ... but how to cope with those that develop on one's bum?

Have you heard of a manicurist to deal with them?

What term do they use for such an action? Derriere-cure sounds a bit too hoity-toity? Ass-cure too ... raw? Crude?

Oh, the problems that modern life develops!

Listened to a 'call a lawyer' talk show yesterday and some lady was wanting advice on a lawsuit against a salon that did a pedicure on her. She got an infection and has had three surgeries so far on her foot.
I can't stand anyone fiddling with me so I would not like it.

I can't stand long nails, but let them grow out so my hands would looks glamorous for my trip. (At least one part of me would! LOL) I usually keep my nails short too because I am constantly, year around in CA, working in the garden.

That's why I never had a manicure before, nails too short. I can't wait to cut them when I get back. I keep making typos on the computer. Too late to go back and complain to the manager because I have lots of last minutes things to do before leaving very very early tomorrow.

I would never give up my Pedicures. I can't bend my left leg past a 90 degree angle and I have a bad left hip. I can't reach my left foot to give myself a pedi. I use a long handle brush in the shower to clean my feet.

A good Pedicure keeps "ingrown toenails" and "callus" from forming. I pay $18.00 every other week. If you don't get rid of the dead skin your feet will smell. Yuk!

I don't have callus on my hands. I wash them often and use a hand lotion. I use gloves for gardening and rubber glove to clean.

I have skater's feet. Once every two weeks I soak them in a dishpan(I keep just for the purpose)of fairly hot water and Johnson's Foot Soak. I use a pumice stone on the calluses and use a foot scrub all over. Then I trim my toenails cleaning under and around them with a cuticle pusher at that time.

I can't stand to have my toenails grow even a bit long. I keep them just long enough to protect my toes. I have been known to wake up in the middle of the night to trim a toenail that's too long.

I also keep a bit of callus so I won't get blisters.

I only paint them in the summer.

I do paint my toenails dark red in the summer...

It helps to hide the dirt from the garden...shh.......

I have always heard that you should scrape your fingernails on a bar of soap before gardening as that will prevent dirt from piling up underneath. When you are done, just use a fingernail brush which removes the residue soap.

I getr manicures every week and my nails look great. I've had only two pedicures in my life and hated them. The girl scrubbed my feet with a hard brush and it tickled/hurt terribly.

I've never had a manicure or pedicure and probably won't. My nails grow sometimes and other times they break and split. The only polish I use is the clear so they shine. I don't want anyone messing with my feet. My cat really gets in trouble when he tries that.
