They were stuck within miles at DFW airport this week with no help. I know cardamom said she wished she would have known and could have gone to get them. I am not much further and could have easily done the same.

Why dont we make a list of our names, and the airports were are close to in case of an emergency like this one?

If you live close to an airport and would be willing to help a pre traveling KT'er, they could contact us through this site or a list and let us know of their plans ahead of time, just in case of such a situation.

If it only works once for somebody, it would be well worth the time.

I think it might be a harmless yet valuable list to start.

Anybody have any ideas to help create a list and what do you think?

I think it sounds like a good idea....

I'm not too far from the Omaha airport. maybe 20 mins.

I don't have any open bedrooms right now...but it won't always be this way...

And there are a lot of hotel/motels near by.

That would be great too, just helping them find a decent hotel/motel where they can stay and maybe getting them there if possible. I just know there is nothing worse than being stranded as a traveler and being a stranger in a strange town.
When I heard that DFW had been closed and flights canceled, I immediatly thought how horrible it must have been for all those stranded.
In fact I had a good friend that thought she was having a heart attack on a plane ride home from Russia to the states, and they did an emergency landing for her. She had the hospital call me and I was able to get word out to the rest of the family and let them know. She was just fine, but always thanks me for being at the end of the phone and making things less scary for her.

Anybody else ever been stranded and wished for a friendly voice of help at the other end?

My comment were and will be very specific - it's my nature and the nature of my work "I think dadoes has the right idea: A pair of single DD's flanking your sink. As a benefit, the upper DD is quieter than the lower one." DD represents "DishDrawer" and not "Double Dishdrawer". Hence "single DD's" means a single DishDrawer. (Perhaps there will be acronyms DDD and SDD in the future? Ugh.) In which case there is no upper or lower. It's a matter of logic. I do understand the basic difference between the double and single. A lot of it is from your posts (BTW, thank you very much!) and others here and at Epinions (e.g., Epinions, Fisher and PaykelDD-603SS Built-in Dishwasher: Another reason to get the double drawer unit is that the space below the unit (under the single drawer unit) would be wasted space. You can't have a drawer below the unit...it needs a rigid bottom capable of load-bearing weight.) What you say about the two singles certainly makes sense .. but that doesn't mean that it is NECESSARILY true. (What would occupy the upper/lower cabinets might be different owing simply because it is upper/lower. There might be other, unknown reasons.) Frankly, the only reason that I can see why anyone would put a single in a lower position would be the physical support issue. It doesn't make sense ergonomically. I'm in a similar situation as lmhall2000 - not enough room for two singles. I have a DD-603I in the middle of my living room as the kitchen cabinets are being put in.

Transport bolts: Keep them. Reinstalling may require "manhandling" the tub/support structure to align it with the exterior cabinet mounting holes ... which may require removing the top panel for access ... which is probably why a service center is typically indicated. Filter: Normally it won't need cleaning, which is why the manual doesn't mention it ... but cleaning can be indicated if it or the pump gets clogged or jammed with coins, strings/lint, hairpins, or other such debris. Some FL owners like to check it periodically. Side-vent kit: It will (should) include installation instructions, and requires opening/disassembling the dryer a bit ... which may *technically* void the warranty if not done by an authorized servicer. I recall a recent post from someone who (successfully) did their own install, after figuring out how to get into the machine. Your choice whether to attempt it. Drain: Maybe, maybe not. Can't know for sure without trying it.

Ima,my mother in law made the complaint to myspace today. It was infact her fault that BM was able to obtain the pictures, and now all family members profiles and pictures are private. Yes, I know that once they are "out there" there is nothing I can do, I'm sure she has them saved to her computer and will always have them. As for her having to believe the things she says, it's more of a way for her to prove to her family out of state that she is who "they" think she is. We (my husband and myself) did in fact get it easy where gaining custody was concerned. Dhr/Cps was involved because of some health issues reguarding one of my step sons, with many DHR visits to the home she left them living in and her home, I was granted temporary custody per her request (dad had been trying for 2 yrs before hand) because of his job.A year later my husband and myself were granted full custody with no support and only supervised visitation from her on the first and third sunday of each month (she has never once followed through with a visit). It has since been ammended to no visitation and we have a protective order on her and her husband. My step kids were beaten, threatened with weapons and not fed for over a week the last time they were with their mother over 4 years ago. Not only do we have the protective order but our local ymca, ballpark and their school also have them. She has shown up numerous times and still continues to do so, to all of the above screaming they were kidnapped and are being held hostage. She has even tried to "kidnap" my youngest step son and my own son from walmart and they were in the buggy I was pushing. So in that aspect no we arent lucky as you tell me to consider myself. I know of the emotional damage a BM can do to a child, I see it daily times 3. As I said, I have a 9 yr old who thinks he should be a girl and a 7 yr old who vomits at will to not have to eat. AND FOR THE RECORD... I never in my post accused her of being a bad parent for giving up custody, I simply chose to post a FEW of the bad choices she has made over the years, but I will say now; I think she is a bad parent (not for giving up custody) for how she has emotionally and physically abused her children and allowed others to do the same. I think she is a bad parent because she still allows her husband to abuse her and their child together, instead of seaking help(and before you say I dont understand what an abusive relationship is like, I was in one for 7 years before I met my husband all of my teenage years and into my early 20's, eventually everyone knows enough is enough). Now, you asked why I wanted to contact a lawyer. No, not necessarily to sue her, she has nothing to sue for and she wouldnt show up in court anyways. To have it documented, yes. She shows up and causes enough trouble without aid of pictures at their school, ymca and sports activities ect. It does scare me to think she has updated pictures that she can wave around and them possibly have the chance of seeing. They know she wasnt there and Im unsure of what that could do to their stability, their mental capacities(they have alot to work through as it is) and their all around behavorial issues, even if it's only for that day or week. Do I think she will use them in that manner, yes. So again, no I dont want to sue her. I dont want to waste money we dont have to waste, energy I am completly drained of already or time that I never seem to have either. As for her myspace page, today was the first I knew of her having one and no I dont care to go back to it. All of my focus does now and has for almost 7 years gone into MY KIDS, I do love them and they know it and with their father's job I am 99.999% the only PARENT they have. I do also try and ignore her, I have only one other time fed into her pity party and that was her email, she isnt worth it. But yes, this makes me angry and I feel I have the right to be, as you stated you were doing the job of "your" BM, so am I. I have a myspace page, I dont post pictures (for this reason) of any of my kids, yet here she is posting them, ones she didnt take, from a holiday she was absent from and claiming MY son as her own child also, when she didnt want to be a parent to her own kids. No matter her reason behind it, I cant seem to want to let it lie. And your right, its not going to change or fix thing nor will it make them better, but I cant help how I feel. Maybe this is all too fresh having all happened today, and Im sorry if this post seems rude, but I didnt expect to be reprimanded or attacked for my earlier post and thats kind of how it felt.

I am about 15 minutes north of the Long Island Islip MacArthur Airport. (located dead center of Long Island, NY).

We have a beautiful, new Hilton Garden Inn just down the road from this airport.

I am more than willing to help anyone if your travels bring you out here to beautiful Long Island!

I have first hand experience of helpful KT members. hayjud and KrisMI (who doesn't post anymore) put me up for several nights when I rode through their part of the country, on my cross country bicycle ride.

Such a treat!

I would love to help anyone out, that was stuck at the Tulsa airport, if I wasn't out gallivanting around the countryside myself.

I live 70 miles from the Tucson Airport and would be willing to help anyone in need there.

I was just about in the same situation at the DFW airport in February on my way home from FL. Luckily I managed to get on a flight that left at 9PM since many flights had been cancelled including mine. It is funny, at the time I was there I thought of the many KTer's that live in that area that would have been willing to help me if I had been stranded overnight but didn't have a phone number for any of them or even a email address.

I think phone numbers would be a better idea since many of us don't have internet access while traveling. Maybe before we were to head out the person traveling could make a post and have people willing to help send her/him an email with the phone information and about how far from the airport they are. This way there wouldn't be a "list" as such.

I'm about 45 minutes from XNA, the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport near Fayetteville, AR. It's not a layover/change planes kind of airport, though, it's more like a destination/departure airport. I am at your disposal, however!

Like Flamingo I am near a couple of airports but they are not layover airports. Nonetheless, I would always be happy to help out a KT'er in need. I am near Daytona and Jacksonville airports. Orlando is also within my reach.

Whenever I do see one of you post that you will be in my neck of the woods I usually email them directly and give them my phone number along with an offer to help out in any type of emergency. I also let them know that I would be happy to just meet up for a cup of coffee if possible.

I am close to Orange County (John Wayne) airport and will have a guest room set up in about a month. I am also about an hour south of LAX and Long Beach airport. My house is always available to a KT'er in need.

I am about 30 minutes from "Grand Forks International Airport", and a little over an hour from the Fargo Airport. If anyone is traveling or stranded in these areas I'll come get you, take you to hotel, or let you stay in the house with us.

You'll get to meet the Harry-Dog in person, and possibly sleep with him...if you don't shut the bedroom door. LOL

I'm about a half hour from the airport in Portland, Oregon (PDX).

I also have plenty of space for overnight guests, as long as they're not allergic to cats and dogs.

A good friend of mine has a towncar business near Seattle. So if anyone needs a ride to or from the SeaTac airport (or anywhere in the Seattle area), I can contact her.

I'm 30 minutes from Dulles International, 45 minutes from Reagan National, and 1 hour from BWI (Baltimore/Washington Int). I should really feel lucky to be so close to 3 airports, although I can't afford to fly out on any of them right now!!

I am about 15 minutes from Memphis Airport. Regretfully I don't have any spare room for overnighters, but I would be delighted feed them and help them find a hotel.

Great idea! I'm about 2 1/2 hrs. from DFW. About 1.5 hrs. from Shreveport, La. airport (don't even know the name of it). I have 2 extra bedrooms I'd be happy to share. You might starve here, but believe me, we know every eating joint around here. We'd feed you!

I also live under a flight path. In case of emergency just jump. ;-)

LOL "just jump"

If someone gets stuck in a Michigan airport, I can likely get them a flight (small aircraft) to a neighboring state like Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and vice versa. You'd be less likely to miss a connecting flight. Of curse, you'd have to pay the cost of fuel (which is a lot these days).

You can add me to the list. I'm about 30 min. from Cleveland.

We should all make a list and put it in a file on our computer so we can check it before we leave for somewhere. Then we can send emails to those who would be on our route, just in case.

In fact, I have a list going for those who are willing to let us stay in their driveway, have campgrounds close or just to stop and visit along our travels with the motor home.

I will vouch for Wildchild! She met DH & I in SF and gave us a wonderful tour of the area! She is a great host.
