I first glanced over this and saw your name "silvergold" and also the words "gold" and started to freak out since the boys eat "solid gold" around here and at first glance I thought that was on the list. Please consider changing your name to something else so that it does not put solid gold users in a panic every time there is a recall announcement. :-) Which is evidently becoming a daily thing.

Good afternoon, almost evening! It was a little cool and windy here today, with rain early this morning. Everything is glistening and green. So pretty. I had my first official workout today. I managed to do all the machines twice and lightly jogged in place after every 2 machines. I have to admit that I had to pop some tylenol and take a nap late this afternoon because I did feel the burn and was achy and tired. But, it was fun, and I'll definitely return tomorrow for a light workout. Hubby has a sleep study tonight way over in Houston, so I'll be on my own here tonight. I haven't spent many nights here alone, and it's been since Thanksgiving so I'm a little nervous. These lovely woods start feeling very dark and lonely when it's just Lucky pup and me. QOD: I think I'd like to return as Sweetpea because that little one leads a beautiful life on Suzanne's farm! Jen, so glad to see you posting and that y'all were safe even though you were frightened. BJ, reading about your windows getting washed made me look hard at mine, and I know that I'll be getting around to them sometime very soon. I hadn't realized how rain-spotted they'd gotten until I really looked. McPeg, that washstand has such good bare bones. Can't wait to see the finished product! I'm happy for you to be getting new furniture! This weekend, we're getting a new propane tank for our grill, and I'm thawing out chicken and steaks to rub down and grill for next week's meals. There's just nothing better than grilled meat - and I love the smell of it cooking on the grill. Hope everyone has a restful weekend!

A friend of a friend had a little dog that died of kidney failure shortly before this whole story broke. He wasn't old at all and was always very healthy. He went downhill very quickly. One day he seemed fine and the next day he was in kidney failure and after an unsuccessful intervention he died. His regular food was one of the recalled brands. His mom called the company after the story broke and they told her she could take her unused food back to the store for a refund. She explained that she didn't have any more food because after her dog died she threw it all away. The lady at the hotline basically told her that without the food there was really no way to prove that her little dog had actually died as a result of the food. All this woman wanted really was acknowledgement of and an apology for the death of her sweet little dog and instead she got zilch. So like silvergold said, we will never know how many animals were really affected because the company will only admit to cases that can be 100% proven.

I have called that number probably in excess of 200 times since yesterday morning. The number is busy, busy, busy. Why is it so hard to put out a list of the affected foods, numbers, etc.? I have also found that the IAMS site that I am directed won't load, I guess it is overloaded???? If the food recalled were manufactured for human consumption, you can bet there would be more information available to stem the tide of lawsuits. Because it is confined to pet food/animals, these manufacturers don't think it is as important because they don't face lawsuits. However, they would think it important if their foods were boycotted because of their ignorance and inattention. Has anyone been able to get through on the number QQ posted? Just ridiculous and very frustrating.

This makes me so mad. I picked out Go Natural because of a posting at the pet store and the web site about how they were not in the recalls because of this that and the other... *blood boils*

Lorie - they updated it today. When I saw your post I was going to send you an email but it appears I can't.....Hope you see this.

UPDATE 5/03/07: Go! Natural was erroneously added to this list by Menu Foods last night. It has NOT been recalled - Petcurean Pet Pet Nutrition, makers of Go! Natural has confirmed that it has NOT been recalled.

Thanks silvergold, I found it this morning..hehe.. I was going to call Go Natural and give them an earful. lol Might have been interesting.
Its a load off my mind. Thanks for trying to email. I must have put a no contact on it when I joined since I did'nt know if we were weird here yet. lol So far I think we are ok.

Probably a precaution. Accd to Blue Buffalo's letter to their customers, they recalled due to an ingredient not specified by the sub/mfg. NOT because of an outbreak of health problems.

My understanding of this Menu recall is that some customers had reported issues - and the food in question (unkown) was not one that contained wheat gluten. Because they have no way of knowing if other foods are OK or not, and probably because they were so highly criticized for their handling of the initial recall, all foods with possible cross contamination were recalled. However, even with FDA now finally admitting deaths are in the thousands, I would rather play safe and have my pet tested if a food was recalled.
