There's something radically wrong with a kid who has to text 100 people with the message being "hi". Let's quit rationalizing that they COULD have been important!!! Get real. Let's say in arguendo that only 1/4 of the messages were sent by her and also i.a. let's say that another 1/4 were "important". Even of earth-shattering importance. (Yeah right) That still makes 250 text messages sent per day. And REALLY, do you think the schools can't get a hold of the kid in an emergency? How many crises happen that require the kid to be contacted so urgently? No wonder the kids come out and can't read or write. I'll grant a couple minor valid points, but mostly lacking. Kids natural advanced relationship with technology is a fabulous thing. But let's not lose sight that there's a time, place and limit too. People sure get sensitive over some very minor things, don't they? :)

Ohhh...that's too bad! Yes, I can picture the family in swimsuits, inflatable toys, towels, flip flops, etc. Hope Plan B was fun, whatever it was. I guess we think when we don't see kids often, they don't grow or change, and we expect them to look the same as before! Our nephew stopped by and I almost didn't recognize him--he has turned into a very mature, handsome young man. So I know how surprised you were.

The weirdest thing that has happened to me, and this has been going on for years, is that I am constantly getting calls for Jennifer who has a daughter Brittany who obviously has a litany of health and learning disabilities. I get calls from schools, doctor's offices and social workers. I tried calling a few to tell them that they have the wrong number, but it was not much help. I'm not sure if she is giving out a false number of it my number is just similar to hers . . . but these are real places. It only happens a couple times a year so I haven't tried harder to figure out how to stop it. It's just sad and weird. I've been included on some weird group messages before, but have usually been able to track down the source and opt out. Again, doesn't happen often enough for me to sweat it.

This is too funny-- in years past, i received long lists of links from each of the younger kids (then 15-22ish). This year i didn't get anything from the younger 2.. I finally sent out a group text saying that anyone without a list would be getting underwear and an ugly christmas sweater! Luckily for me, one of them fell in love with a necklace i had been looking at for her mom-- and also a pair of beyond yoga leggings when i was also shopping for her mom (this year all the women are getting Beyond Yoga leggings because this is the year *I* discovered leggings!) Finally, yesterday, my nephew texted that he needed new Air Force 1s.. great-- after black friday/cyber monday, they were all sold out everywhere! (I did find them on the Nike site). These along with a shoe cleaning kit, and the dopp kit/Duke Cannon items makes a nice package. I am mostly done shopping -- i need to place an order at the state store yet and select a few book gifts. I overbought this year but it ended up being a little more fun than I had thought it would be. Now i have to start wrapping and getting packages in the mail!

That is really sad, and I see MANY peeps texting on the highway - not good. I learned to text when my very dear Mother was in the hospital in 2009 & we (her eight kids) were trying to share info quickly. It really helped to learn how to communicate quickly among the eight of us!

There was a 16 year old girl here that got her driver's license and a week later she was killed using her cell while driving. Her father was interviewed the next day and suggested young people learn from his daughter's death and maybe her death would save another young person.

In today's paper it showed a B-52 which was able to land without a problem due to texting. They lost one of the engines over MT, and due to being out of radio range was to text, which they did. They had to shut down the engine. Interesting! This was in the Minot Daily News.

A follow up to my earlier post - there was a real tragic issue locally - I think about 5 years ago 5 girls - seniors in high school - were killed in a car accident near graduation time and the investigation led to the conclusion that the driver had been texting to friends in a car behind them. Convenient, but only at the right time and in the right place.

Texting while driving in my opinion is no different than drunk driving.Every week I hear about another fatal car accident caused by somebody texting. You see it at red light intersections now all the time..light turns green and people just sit there because they are texting instead of paying attenion.The fines associated for texting while driving are stupid. The first time fine should be $1000.00 maybe then they'll get the message.

Personally I don't text. PERIOD. Not in my plan. If someone texts me, I delete it without opening it. Then I call, and ask: What did you want? I don't text.

I don't text either, I even had it took off my phone so I wouldn't get any. I get so scared when someone is behind me and I see them texting. That's a rearending looking to happen.
