has anyone resurfaced a brick fireplace with soapstone?
Comments (1)We just had our brick fireplace re-surfaced in granite with a white surround. The contractor who worked on it actually advised against matching the kitchen granite -- even though the family room opens up right to the kitchen. He said that a more eclectic style is used where you'd use a variety of stones, mouldings, etc from room to room -- giving it a more custom look. Everything matching is more of a builder standard look. So don't feel the need to match your kitchen counters....See MoreHow big are your bedside tables?
Comments (23)I hate to be such a pain in the butt, but :) I am becoming more and more indecisive as I get older. Here is another mock up. This one is 29 1/2" and 34" long. The top is a little off balance as I did the length with books, game boards and table leaves. The picture frame on the end represents a mock up of a table top perfume cabinet we're currently making (the tables are the next project) The perfume cabinet is going to be approximately 10" wide x 15" high x 7 1/2 deep. I was originally going to make it 9 x 13 x 7", but the mock-up showed me that I could go bigger. Now here's my question, why does this table look so big. It is actually almost the same size as Mona's tables, a little smaller actually, but to me they look so big. I tried taking a photo from looking down on the table, more like Mona's photo and it still looks big. When we make the tables, we'll make the tops more level than the mock up :))) I hope.... A further away shot. 34" long, why does it look so long? Is it because I am use to looking at our 20 x 20 by only 22"high end tables? Thanks for all your help....See MoreBedside lamp(s) when you only have one nightstand?
Comments (6)amieekim, I would love an overhead light. However, it would be very costly and a lot of work to put in since they would have to drill through joists to run wiring (not to mention all the holes in then ceiling!). I already checked for the living room (wanted a ceiling fan/light). That's why I was thinking of the upward light that worked off the remote. I could either keep the remote on the nightstand or mount it on the wall by the light switch and not have to walk over to turn it on/off. I might be putting a chair by it and get one that also had a reading light attached....See MoreHas anyone ever used only the headboard portion of a complete bed?
Comments (18)I have an old art deco bed with a 12" deep headboard (it has a bookcase or niche or whatever you wanna call it) and about 8" of footboard, waterfall style with big chunky feet. To fit it in a tiny guest room, I bought a plain metal frame and stuck the footboard and rails in a closet. Didn't even attach them as the headboard can stand on its own. I think the very tall guest appreciates it. That footboard isn't very big. Just try it out and if it doesn't work, put the extra parts in the attic. :) Or....find a vintage bed like this one is trying to copy. It'll be better quality and you won't feel like you paid full price for a bunch of extra parts....See MorePenelope
