Losing baby teeth

I don't think my 5 month old saint bernard, Jasper, has lost his baby teeth yet. Is this normal for his age?

I don't know about St. Bernards specifically, but my guys (labs) lost theirs around 4-5 months. Also, when those first teeth come out, it is time to neuter. If you are concerned, give your vet a call.

Dogs usually swallow their baby teeth. Many people never notice. Sometimes you'll notice a little blood on a chew toy when the molars or canine teeth fall out (canines are the last to go at 6 months), but rarely will you find a tooth. The only worry would be if he had 2 sets of teeth, usually canines. Then the baby teeth have to be removed under general anesthesia. Other than that, it's probably OK.

I feel your pain! I've decided that weight watchers isn't in my budget either. I almost cried when I realised that I'm overweight now...After baby #1 came 5 months ago. I see a lot of women on base who have babies the same age and don't even look like they've even thought about having a baby, much less have had one. Another disappointment with my plan...I can't take my baby to the gym, so that's out. I think my only option is walking. But I need accountability. Me & working out aren't the greatest combination. Let me know if you come up with something that will fit into a mom's routine! I need the help too!!! My poor hubby...We were looking at pictures from when we first got married and he was like "look how thin your face is". That's when I realised this HAS to go!

As said, keep the claws trimmed and you need to start young to get them used to it. When a cat bites my hand without cause, I automatically push back into their mouth. They're so startled they will learn not to do it again. If they come up and bite, often it's a message of wanting to play, they're hungry and the dish is empty, or the water is low or the litter box needs attention or any number of things. I have a zero-tolerance with mine. I keep a squirt bottle of water nearby and she gets squirted when she does it. She knows it and doesn't do it often. And I have a memory. She runs away and hides a while but comes back like nothing happens. Then I squirt her. She knows what it's for. If she nipped rather hard, she'll get a couple treatments. She then comes to me, head hanging and apologizes. It's kind of funny. It also helps to ignore them too when they've misbehaved - don't pet them. They're like kids. They'll often push you as far as they can.

Here we've had "golden" dollar coins for over 20 years. When DD was small the tooth fairy brought a shiny $1. Once when we were away on vacation she lost a tooth but none of the local stores had any shiny $1 coins so I had to polish one up with Coca Cola :-) When I was younger I was nanny for three small children. It turned out their family tradition was to put teeth in a glass of water on the bedroom mantel for the Tooth Fairy to collect. The first time it was a major pain trying to fish the tooth out of the glass in the dark quietly so after that I made sure they used a glass that had a matching one and switched the tooth glass with one containing the money :-) Then there was the time I came home to find one child hysterical as a newly-lost tooth had gone down the bathroom sink. So we wrote a nice letter to the Tooth Fairy, telling her where the tooth was so she could use her magical powers to get it out. It worked ;-)

Hi Arlene. Black spot is one of those fungus that is all around all the time. I find that a rose under heat/water stress will become susceptible to black spot. In the nursery the rose had frequent watering possibly several times a day. My nursery roses get watered 3 times a day. The soil used in pots needs to be very well drained so that the plants won't drown from all that water. When you plant a young rose in the ground the density of the garden soil may be different from the potting soil so the garden soil dries the plant out. If this is the problem then it will continue until the roots find their way into the garden soil and frequent water will solve the problem. A nursery may ship a plant free of black spot symptoms and the stress of the shipping may cause the symptoms to appear. I grow Westerland and I know it to be a very disease resistant rose. Here in Florida, only a prolonged drought will make it show black spot symptoms;

Generally they start loosing them around 4 months and should be pretty much thru between 6-7 months.

Baby teeth begin falling at 4 months, by 8 months the dog has a full mouth ( all permanent teeth have emerged ).

My pup (Shepherd/Hound)lost most of hers at 4-5 months. What she didn't swallow, I either found or stepped on by accident. They are very sharp!

I don't think I ever had a dog young enough to have baby teeth.

We had a hoot at a conversation, I think was on here or the Kitchen Table, they rushed the tooth to the vet in a jar of milk. Vet said it's ok, it's a baby tooth.

Yeah, I thought he should be losing his baby teeth by now, and since we haven't found any laying around (like we did with our lab), I thought maybe he was swallowing them, but when I look in his mouth, they still look (and feel, unfortunately) like the same razor sharp little baby teeth to me. Even though he's finally learned bite inhibition and doesn't play so rough anymore, those little razors he has in his mouth can do some damage. Heaven help me if he just replaced his baby razors with adult razors, lol.
