It always amazes me what a person can do with those editing programs. That is a beautiful picture. Makes me think of spring.

I suspect I have asked you before but I have a horrible memory for those things, what program do you use for editing your pictures. I need to put a bug in santa's ear. LOL

Adobe PS CS2. I waited for years to be able to afford a legal copy. They had a promotion with my Wacom tablet (which I haven't tried out much yet, just to see that it works), wanted one of those for years, too, because I'm left-handed and have had to learn to do artsy stuff with my mouse right-handed, where you could get it for $299, otherwise it's $650, so I finally got it. Then Elements came with my 20D, so I bought one for my granddaughter and gave her the Elements cd because I neither needed it nor wanted it. You can upgrade that to the full version for $299 until November of this year if somebody has an extra cd they aren't using. Most people don't use it very long if they do have it, but I suppose a lot use it to upgrade and take advantage of the special.

I started with Paint Shop Pro, also bought Photo Impact (never use it any more), and when I saw what kind of work people were putting out with PS, I quit upgrading. I got very proficient with Paint Shop Pro, and it took me a year to get past masks and layers, learned it all through tutorials on the web and people helping me.

PS has a steep learning curve, but in the long run, it is the best, I think that is the choice of most pros, could be wrong about that.

Maybe you know someone who could get you the teacher discount on PS. That is another way to go.

I was amazed to find all three kinds growing on the west and very shaded side of my house this spring. It's quite narrow and more shaded since my neighbor put up a fairly tall fence. I have the speckled ones marked and will see if they have multiplied by next spring.

The guy who cuts my grass for me has strict orders just to cut one swath down the middle and not disturb my violets growing on either side :-).

Thanks for all the kind remarks. Good luck if you go ahead with the Photoshop, Valerie. It took me a whole morning to set up that shot, pick the violets, try to keep them from falling out, didn't get it quite the way it could have been, but I was pretty satisfied with it, did that one on a tripod in natural light and took many shots to be sure I got a nice one.

Oh, Doris, I have never tried to grow African violets. My mother had a few, took great delight in some of the different kinds you could get, there was always a leaf sitting in a glass of water on the kitchen window sill rooting. My paternal grandmother was the one who really had a green thumb for African violets. She had lots of them on tables in several rooms in her old Victorian house. How I miss her and that house. It didn't look like that much on the outside, but had the most gorgeous golden oak carved woodwork on the stair rails and railing in the upstairs hall. It burned down after she died shortly after 1958, and it has left a hole in my heart even though it has been replaced by a new, modern home.

Pretty flowers and very nice picture. There are violets growing all over our back yard- I'm about to give up on keeping them out of the grass- let the future owner worry with them.
