need help picking an exterior color for our patio door

Hey just tried to post this question about windows but don't think it went through? We are going with Marvin's Integrity for our sliding door but I'm not sure what color to go with on the outside (eventually we are going to change out all the windows--fun stuff I know). We live in a brick (red) and wood (painted white) ranch that we will paint in the next couple of years (maybe even the brick) so the current colors of the exterior shouldn't guide the color selection. We like white but one of the designer's warned us that white "screams" vinyl so we'd be better off selecting another color. The house was built in 1960 and the style is contemporary. Here's the colors we have to choose from. What do you think?

Any photos of your house -- including the brick -- would really really help us to help you!

Start a free account at a site like Photobucket -- upload your photos.

I like color on all exterior doors. I think it says welcome in a cheerful way.

I have a deep foresty green on my back patio door. It echoes the green of the landscaping. For what it's worth, I'm thinking about painting it a deep plum color this spring.

Post photos of the door and the patio if you can. You'll get lots of good suggestions.

Thank you all so much! We agree and will keep the fence color the same. If any of you are willing, can you answer some follow-up questions regarding the siding? I have a few concerns about going with a dark charcoal gray. I Though I think it's a beautiful color, is it not a very trendy color, thus at risk of going out of style soon? I did some research, and it seems a lot of people like SW Peppercorn, which is lovely. I'm concerned the neighbors would object because all the houses on our street our very pale beige-like colors. Would ours stand out too much against the light colored homes? I see all of you suggested the charcoal because it's in the paver, so that makes a lot of sense. Is there any other color I can pull from the pavers that would work? I'm very bad with seeing colors clearly, so I appreciate the help.

Have a cedar house that needs painting and some repair. Need to decide on colors. Leaning towards keeping the white trim and going to a slightly darker color. Maybe a grey-green or grey-blue. The roof is brighter green than the picture makes it look. Advice needed: 1. What style house is this? Florida 1987 cedar siding 2. Main color knowing Ill have white trim and green roof. 3. Do I keep the shutters? If so what color? not sure if they are supposed to be there with the vertical pillars on the siding. 4. Door color, I like the reddish door. 5. What color do you paint the vertical pillars? I was thinking the same color as the main exterior, but I'm wondering what white would look like?? 6. Would you paint the patio ceilings Haint blue? I think its a myth, but could add a little extra southern character. I would prefer the Sherwin Williams paint colors as I'm using their paint. Also will take advice on landscaping, this photo was taken with google maps, will update later with real photo.

Your inspiration picture is gorgeous. It has 2 colors and 2 materials. Your house has stone, brick, siding/stucco? That's 3, and you're thinking adding 2 colors plus the 2 stones? That won't look as cohesive and natural as your pic. I would stay with one color, dark, as you mentioned. Do your stones and brick match in color?

Back of home, during construction. There will be another deck between the white siding and sunroom windows. Under the deck will be closed in and made into a shed. We'll need to decide what kind of siding and what colors we'll use for that.

Here's a pic of the front of the house (this is an old photo--the tree is dead and gone):

I don't have a pic of the back of the house but right now it's just a narrow deck with an awning that is about 1/2 the length of the house. After we get the kitchen remodeled this is our next project. We plan on ripping the deck down and replacing it with a screened porch (our house overlooks a swath of public forest, which is beautiful, but buggy). The patio doors will open onto this porch. I think a nice dark color would be nice, but should the color of the door match the rest of the windows? If you click the link you can get to a set of inside pics. It's completely open now. Thinking about painting it Elephant's Breath by Farrow and Ball.
